caught mr. neal in memphis saturday. he added two horns(never seen him
do that). oddly the horns weren't given much time in the spotlight. his
new cd(first time on Blind Pig) likewise has horns that stay way in the
background--all the time. but the cd is his best. it takes
the "alligator" kenny neal and adds plenty: more intimate sound-not in
your face, more like in your lap. intimate, clear and does bring the
listener to the soundstage, great band and kenny has never sounded
better.
there's more soul-soul blues-southern soul than in previous cds.
the neal familys' tragic past certainly inspired this cd but rather
than dwell on tragedy, the cd looks at the hopefull aspects of
surviving life's curveballs..uplifting.
