Implicit in this distinction is that we are also the
#1 salsa community in Houston AND Texas!!!
Furthermore, Houston probably has the distinction of
being the most diverse salsa community in the world!!!
On any given salsa night in Houston, in addition to the
various regional Spanish spoken, over 30 languages
may be represented from Hindi to Chinese to Russian to
Igbo to Arabic to Tagalog to any other number of world
languages. But salsa is the common language that
everyone understands. Where else in the world can you
see a Kazakhstani Asian salsera dancing with a Brazilian
or a Norwegian salsero dancing with a Filipina?
This growth in diversity is giving Houston an unique
salsa identity and a big challenge as a salsa market.
The Latin salsa market was already complex enough, but
adding the international diversity creates a market
that most businesses have never experienced.
Although we continue to grow as a salsa community, we
have leveled off in growth as a market for salsa dancing
and music. This is evident in the attendance decrease to
salsa concerts, particularly to the free "Pure Latin Mix"
at Jones Plaza. The salsa radio airplay is down compared
to the previous years. Promoters are more hesitant about
sponsoring salsa events or venues. Maybe the Houston
salseros are content with the status quo of the salsa scene
in Houston?
So is this the best that the Houston salsa scene can
be? The decision is your's and everyone's. The basic
premise of SalsaHouston.com is to reflect the community
preferences over the individual solicitations.

And SalsaHouston remains commmitted to the community.
We are already the salsa envy of the southwest, but
can Houston ever challenge the salsa status of NYC,
LA, or Miami? This depends on you and everyone else.
As long as SalsaHouston community continues to grow,
SalsaHouston stays committed to voicing and reflecting
the community. Tell a friend about SalsaHouston.com
and take them out to the dance floor!!!
Thanks for being part of this community in 2007!!!
Gracias y Dios le bendiga!!!
