Hi Daryl,

Caught Joe, Sam, Pete + Band when the tour rolled into Cardiff....and
very good it was too!

Sam did all the songs you mentioned in your post, the highlight/stand
out one for me being 'Fever'. True to the original version, it
featured just vocals, drums and double bass ... with Joe and the rest
of the band just clicking their fingers into a microphone to add to
the tension/vibe of the song - absolutely mesmerising!

Sam fashion watchers might be keen to know we were treated to two
outfits, one either side of a 20 minute drinks interval.

Great on-stage interplay between all the Band, with Joe coming across
as a very 'folksy' kind of guy with lots of funny stories to tell.

All in all, good night out...and, of course, just great to see Sam
out there on a stage able to sing after all the problems with her
voice over the past year.

Bye for now,
Andrew

Hi, better late than never I've got some information about Sam's
appearances with her dad Joe on his current autumn tour:

Sam is part of the band playing accordian, organ and ukulele. She's
also stepping up to the mic for a few songs, usually Jolene and
Travellin' Prayer (both Dolly Parton numbers) and Fever (Peggy Lee),
plus a group number, maybe The Three Bells a capella which is on The
Very Best Of Sam Brown.

I've not seen Sam playing the accordian, but apparently she's really
into it and is writing some new songs with it in mind!

Sam has written a song "Everybody's Famous" with Charlie Dore which
her dad's recorded on his new album More Of The Truth with Sam on
piano. Sam's also on a few other tracks singing backing vocals and
playing keyboards and accordian. Her brother Pete is on nearly
every track plucking away and singing backing vocals.

Charlie Dore is best known for her 1979 hit single "Pilot of the
Airwaves":

O my!
Klaus, you are 100% right of course -- I guess I was too quick there.
Thanks for correcting me, we cannot have a lot of people believing
that Over the Moon is a whole album, now can we?! :)

PS: I even think that Off the Moment is a great album! ;)

Hej Bjørn,

looks like the old "O" discussion comes back up ;)

But still Sam decided for Off the Moment, not Over The Moon.

George,
I really love the Over the Moon album, altough some of the songs took
a little bit of listening before "sticking", and a couple I am not
quite comfortable with still. But, this is the way it is for me with
all of Sam's albums (and with most other albums for that matter).

And sure, it departs a bit from her earlier work --- but in my opinion
all the previous albums differ from each other to quite a degree: Take
Stop vs. 43 Minutes vs. Reboot for instance, and Over the Moon is
still 100% Sam in my ears! I think it is a continuation of the Reboot
direction towards a warmer, fuller and perhaps a bit more intimate
sound, with a bit of experimenting with rhythms (You'd Think I'd Know
By now), instruments (Show Your Love) and style (Over The Moon).

I haven't listened to the clips myself so I really cannot say if they
are only lows or what. But I do think you shouldn't give up on Over
the Moon just yet :)

BRs,
Bjørn

Walked into a used CD shop near my new office one lunch time last
week just to have a squiz. Lo and behold I find the Japanese pressing
of Reboot on the shelf! Don't even ask me how I found it--I can't
remember, but I did. It was only about 5 quid/US$10, so I grabbed it.
Went to the counter and there was a Beautiful South best of for 2.5
quid, so I grabbed that too, because I haven't got anything of
theirs. It was like buying Homespun, but separately! LOL

I must say that Reboot has rocketed up my list of favourite Sam CDs
from out of nowhere. It is up there with Stop and Box. I'm glad I
finally found it. Now to get hold of the latest (and sadly the last)
Homespun album. I'm not really fussed about her latest album after
hearing the clips, so I'm putting it off. It seems a real departure
from the stuff she's done in the past. Or are the clips just of the
low parts of the songs?

Yes it was Together Again, confirmed by this review:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2008/09/26/bmjoe126.xml
I don't think they've played it much over the last seventeen years since it
was released on CD single!

If you're interested there's another review here:

Many thanks for the report Sarah.

Thanks for the interesting insight.  Those of us fans in the states have a bit
farther to travel then even you did.  Can't imagine what a trek you had but at
least you felt it was worth it.  I envy you over there.  I don't think we will
being seeing Sam over here anytime soon.

Thank You,
Pete

Hey all.

No sure if anyone will be interested but here goes anyway...

I went to Joe's 50th anniversary night at the Royal Albert Hall on
wednesday and it was ace! I didn't really know much about Joe, mostly
just because i'm only 20 (i think i was the youngest one there!) so
he's not really my era and i hadn't come across him much. He was
brilliant though, a great musician, and did a real variety of music
and the guests like Mark Knopfler, Dave Edmunds and Jools were
awesome. He finished with I'll See You In My Dreams which was
beautiful of course but i half expected petals to fall from the
ceiling. So I'm a fan now...Joe rocks.

But the main reason I went was to hear Sam on that stage. I travelled
about 100 miles, ran miles across london after the show to catch the
last train, missed the last train and had to get various taxis and
trains back to Nottingham, have had 3 house sleap and 7 hours on my
feet at work but....it was so worth it! She sang two songs; Valentine
Moon and another i didn't know (something about "together"?? ), both
with Jools. I think her voice probably was still causing her problems
but it seemed to warm up after a bit. She was still brilliant.

umm...Amanda Brown? I've seen you around the forum. I asume that you
know/ are related to Sam. If theres anyway to let Sam know that i
thought she was ace, and really apreciated it, that would be great.
Seemed like it was hard work putting her voice through that...this is
all guess work of course. Thanks :)

Anyway that was it. I got to hear Sam Brown sing Valentine Moon with
Jools at the Royal Albert Hall...i am one lucky chick.

Hi Klaus
Sam has been a great help to Pete during the making of this album. Firstly and
most obviously Sam has done the backing vocals along with Margot Buchannan and
Aith McRobbie. She has also help Pete with the production, even down to the
sleeve layout, the cover was even designed by Sam's other half. So all in all
Sam has been a tremendous help from start to finish.
Take care

Amanda

Dear Mark
The Gig went well, and we all had a great night. Sam's voice is still giving her
jip, but she was on top form and extremely entertaining, as ever.
Sam is due to join Joe for his 50th Anniversary gig at the Royal Albert Hall
next week, she is also joining him for the Autumn tour. I don't see her touring

Thank you for asking about the gig.

Just doing my monthly/when I remember/trawl through ebay for Sam
Brown, and noticed someone spent a good 5 minutes typing up the
credits on the back of the 7" of a Stop! single. Why do they bother??

Well, I dug out the CD, and there's not really much more information to add
other than what you'll find from the links in Klaus' e-mail. Sam's
participation is limited to a few "Ooo-ooohs" and a couple of back-up lines
in the chorus - you get much more impression of her from the video link than
you do from listening to the studio version of the song on the CD.

Anyway, for those who are interested, the CD single has the main version, an
acoustic version, and an instrumental version of the song. It was released
in 1996 by Silver Clef Productions via EMI, "with support and enthusiasm
from Levi's and Rover", and was in aid of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy
Centre. Interestingly, the sleeve includes the following notation:

"We are most grateful to the following artists (in alphabetical order): Sam
Brown, Andy Fairweather Lowe, Lulu, Brian May, Shara Nelson, Pure Strings,
Paul Rodgers and Charlie Watts."

Not sure if Lulu and Shara Nelson are also singing back-up on the song - I
can hear Sam, but it's so remote that it could be all three of them for all
I know. Don't know why they'd be thanked, otherwise.

You can see a copy of the CD cover here:
http://www.freewebs.com/davidtaylor1960/Brian-May-Reaching-Out---Ro-96592.jpg

Hope that's vaguely of interest...

I have the CD single, but don't feel left out - I can hardly distinguish
Sam's voice anywhere in there! Don't have it with me right now, but I'll
dig it out later and provide some more info.

What a find!

Apparently a temporary arrangement for a charity.

Hi there,

just found something that I must have missed - did anyone hear of Rock
Therapy? Seemed to be a project back in 96, including Paul Rodgers,
Brian
May, Tommy Cunningham, Andy Fairweather-Low and (to be on topic) our
Sam.

I just found a promotion card for them on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180274868276
and after googling a video of their song "Reaching Out" - at
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/rock-therapy-reaching-out-paul-rodgers
-brian-may/792053255

Anyone having more details?

Cheers
Klaus

Everyone's comments on their favourites has been very interesting. Robert's
views, below,
come closest to mine.
I didn't discover Sam's charms until about 6 or 7 years ago and loved all the
CDs in their
different ways. I was eagerly waiting for 'Of The Moment', but just wonder if
Sam's voice
problem has anything to do with why I was disappointed - the vocals just don't
seem to
have the power and clarity of earlier works. More knowledgeable commentators
than me
have praised the work and musical creativity... so am I just stuck in the past?
I have only see a few of Sam's live efforts, but these are unfailingly great
[except for the
rather sad show I saw at the Sage in Gateshead] - her energy, vocal quality,
variety and
ability to set moods are just top-notch.

Just hope she comes back on form soon - her tour with Joe should give chance to
ease her
way back?

Tony
