is there any news about sam's current musical life?
by the way, listmembers who haven't checked out pete's album should do so. it's
a lovely album, with great songs and a lot of good stuff.
A buddy of mine gave me a copy of Joe's live LP, Live From Nowhere in
Particular. He does an amazing combo of Jethro Tull's New Day Yesterday with
Yes's Starship Trooper. Have to hear it to believe it.

I like Joe Bonamassa, he is a great young bluesman, but I confess I don't like
his version of "Stop".
There is only one version of that song, and we all know whose that is!

I wish I could get that here in the U.S. I have seen the 1994 show before and
I'm still amazed by Sam's incredible voice. Her performance was awesome. When
she did the solo vocals ("Great Gig in the Sky") she stole the show (in my
opinion). I have always loved Pink Floyd but she made the song even better than
the original (no small task). You can see it here.

Hello Everyone
I have attached a poster for Pete's up and coming tour! I am not sure if you
will be able to open it but is worth a try!

The first part of Queens of British Pop was on Wednesday on BBC1 and they've
put together a rather nice website. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be
room for our favourite:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/musictv/queensofbritishpop/
The programme itself is on the BBC iPlayer for a few more days and "tells the
story of Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, Marianne Faithfull, Suzi Quatro,
Siouxsie Sioux and Kate Bush - some of the female artists that emerged
alongside some of Britain's defining musical movements, from the Swinging
Sixties through to glam rock and punk."
The second show on Wednesday covers the eighties, nineties and naughties,
"profiling Annie Lennox, Alison Moyet, Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell, Amy
Winehouse and Leona Lewis. These female stars take us from post-punk to The X
Factor, with a slice of girl power along the way."
Cheers,
Daryl

I guess you all noticed that brother Pete's album was announced in
this forum some time back? Of course, being a Brown fan I bought it,
and I am just posting this to recommend it strongly! Quite different
style from Sam's of course, but high quality music nevertheless -- I
have listened to it a lot of times by now and it still grows.
And btw: A big thanks to you all for dropping the occasional tip
concerning Sam's side projects and appearances, besides Pete I have so
far discovered Chimpan A, Margo Buchanan, Homespun and Moses thanks to
you, and enjoyed soooo many hours of great music listening.

I apologise if outrage is implied, it was certainly not intended in my
message, sorry if that is how it comes across. I would have expressed
my dislike of this version a little stronger if that was the case.

I just came across a Barclay James Harvest concert DVD, with a concert
called Victims of Circumstance filmed live at Wembley October 13 1984.
A horrible concert movie, but guess who appeared as one of the two
ladies doing the backing vocals? Our Sam! A nice surprise indeed.
Of course, it is barely possible to see her in closeup, very low
camera time and bad picture quality. She is very energetically trying
to liven up the show, an interesting contrast to the BJH guys who keep
a fairly laid-back scene profile.
I know Sam and her mother Vicki did some backing vocal on the BJH
album of the same name (and in particular the title track, which also
exists in another, extended mix with even more of the Browns);
apparently Sam tagged along for the concert as well :)
Even if these particular pieces did not find their way into musical
history (and deservedly so) it was cool to see my two favorite
artists/groups on the same stage.
And all in true 1984 style of clothing and hairstyle -- OMG!
Hmm, interesting. They probably do think Jamelia's version is the original. I
don't *hate* this, but I am indifferent, and aren't the vocals slightly out of
time? I suppose it might sound awesome when you're off your face dancing in a
club.

no need for outrage, I'm pretty sure they mean that they think this
mix is better than the 'original' cover version. The person
probably doesn't even know Sam's version ?!
Anyway, I love club/dance music (although perhaps not as much as when
I was younger), but I have to say this version is complete rubbish!
Mike.

Ok, thanks, not my cup of tea.
But maybe they regard Jamelias cover as the original - and this one
definetely has more originality than Jamelias.
But having heard Sam live, none of the 100.000 (roughly) versions out
there
stands a chance.
Cheers
Klaus

It is Stop, but BE WARNED its not Sam, its not in the style of the
original and certainly not to my taste. Some reviewers on the site
are claiming its better than the original - are they deaf!!! Or am I
getting old!!

Hi there,
just stumbled upon a CD with eight different remixes of our Sams big one.
It seems to be released last November by Consoul Trainin feat Joan Kolova
(REDSTICK Recordings)
Anyone heard of this or able to provide any details?
The included Remixes:
- Diego Donati vs F&A Factor Club Mix (7.00)
- Diego Donati vs F&A Factor Instrumental (7.00)
- Diego Donati vs F&A Factor Radio Mix (3.25)
- Original Extended Mix (6.44)
- Electro Mix (5.41)
- Rivaz & Zucchi Radio Edit (3.43)
- Original Radio Edit (2.55)
- Rivaz & Zucchi Club Mix (6.44)
Could be that 7 is what we already know. But 2.55 would be a bit short...
Cheers

Hi Everybody.Just seeing if anyone has any news on Sam?Is she touring
again soon and how is her voice now?Im sure we all miss her.I sure
do.Cheers Colin.
Oops! That'll teach me not to have the album in front of me at the time!
Yesterday I said Pete's album has:
> not one but two Robert Wyatt songs!
This is completely wrong, in fact it has not one but two Nick Lowe songs!
As Amanda said, you can hear some of the songs on Pete's MySpace:
http://www.myspace.com/petebrownnotbeforetime1
Three of these songs are co-written by Sam: Say You Know Me Well,
Oedipus Complex and Twisted Out Of Shape. Sam, Margo and Aitch are on
backing vocals on the latter two.
Not Before Time is a good title for a debut album released in your early
forties! You can buy it from Sam's shop: http://www.sambrownshop.com

Daryl

Glad you enjoyed the show Andrew, I saw them in Sheffield on top form,
thoroughly entertaining and impressively versatile band. Sam sang great
and Pete's guitar work was outstanding!
Had a quick word with Sam, she's been fairly pleased with the tour but
has found her voice is still somewhat unreliable and unpredictable and
will not be planning any other tours for the forseeable future.
Sam has co-written about a third of the songs on Pete's album and she's
singing backing vocals on a few tracks as well as co-producing it. As
you might imagine from this talented family, it is an accomplished and
diverse album with many different styles, perhaps a bit Pink Floydy,
somewhat White Stripesy and a few times you notice Sam'n'Pete's familiar
production. There are quite a few cover versions including My Doorbell
and not one but two Robert Wyatt songs!
Cheers,
Daryl
