I think that Eva Kingma may still be making contrabasses, although
US$12K sounds more like the price of her open-hole bass flute.
Definitely not a PVC horn ;-) If I remember correctly, the Kotato
*double* contrabass was around US$28K, and the contrabass was
somewhere in the $14-20K range. I know that Chris McKenna is also
experimenting with PCV contrabass flutes, and is also shooting for
the US$2K range, but haven't heard what his current progress is.
