Re: [Sarrusophone] Not a Sarrusophone, but still neat

Speaking of interesting (even though non-sarrusophone) rarities, it
appears that Heckel may revive the piccolo heckelphone for a short
run. The following message just appeared on the idrs list:

=======================
From: AtLJonChance1@...
Subject: Heckel may produce limited piccolo Heckelphones.

I have been in contact with Heckel over the past month and the owner said
they may make a one time "batch" of piccolo Heckelphones in F but she would
like to know how many people would be interested in an instrument. I told her
it would very much depend on the price. I'll let you know the price in the
near future but at this point I need to know how many people on the list may
be interested.
J. Chance
=======================

The piccolo heckelphone is pitched in F above the oboe, an octave
above the English horn. Only 17 were ever made, the last one in 1916
(in contrast to about 120 bass heckelphones, still made today, and
ONE terz heckelphone in Eb, discontinued). My sources say that the
piccolo heckelphone descends to written B3, sounding E4 (E above
middle C) - basically sopranino sax/Ab sopranino clarinet territory.

Anyone interested in a new piccolo heckelphone should probably make
their wishes known to Mr. Chance, or risk missing their opportunity...

Enjoy!

Grant

... I did too. I'm left wondering how tall this girl is, and whether she got a sound out of the thing. Grant, did you pass this on to your contrabass fans?...

... I think that Eva Kingma may still be making contrabasses, although US$12K sounds more like the price of her open-hole bass flute. Definitely not a PVC horn...
