You're right! The top two prongs engage the strap-loop holes, and are bent slightly upward near their end in order to keep the instrument from slipping out. The bottom of the instrument (the slim metal heel) fitted into the angle bracket, and was secured by a thumbscrew. This angle bracket had a slip collar (for adjustment) which slides (and locks) vertically on a piece of 1/2" brass water pipe. Standard 1/2" black iron pipe could have been used as well. The small ornament on the top end was salvaged from a table lamp that was being thrown in the trash.....it sort of gave the assembly a little more "class"!

Pierre,
Did the two top hooks engage the strap hooks? If so, how was this accomplished, can they be turned? Did the bottom arm go under the bow?
Jack
Hello Steve,
I also was unsuccessful in finding a comfortable strap arrangement for my Conn contrabass. I made a stand and adapted it to a throne base. I no longer have the instrument, but the stand is still here in the corner. As you can see, the stand is completely adjustable for any size musician.

Contrabass Sarrusophone?
Been trying different straps & harness, including combinations, without arriving
at an acceptable setup.
The Contrabass is a Conn with the two neckstrap rings.
Thoughts, recommendations & pictures greatly appreciated!

Hi all,
When I visited Benedikt last year, he was not very interested in
making sarrusophones (or other double reeds). He did make the CC
contra, and just confirmed that he will be making an Eb bari (to low
G, to cover the entire bassoon range), but he told me he has no plans
to manufacture these instruments. He will make them custom, to order,
for one willing to pay the price of such an instrument. From what I've
seen of his design and workmanship, I'm sure any such instrument would
be well worth the price.

Hi,
My name is Gilberto (44 yrs), I am originaly from Curitiba in Brazil, I
have lived in Milan, Italy for the past twenty years.
I play (I try...) the baritone, bass and contrabass saxophones and I
collaborate with J'Elle Stainer Extreme Saxophones factory from Brazil
(wwww.below65-4hz.com).
My main business activity is International Freight Forwarding but my
real passion is jazz, vintage instruments and saxophone making.
I have a collection of saxes including curved sopranino, c-melody,
Grafton, Selmer MK VI's alto, tenor (Balanced Action), baritone and
bass, slide-sax (Swanee and "Ivophone" made by J'Elle Stainer), J'Elle
Stainer low A bass, contrabass and other odd instruments, cd's,
articles, sheet music, photos...
I am currently looking for a contrabass sarrusophone, I have a few
recordings of Roscoe Mitchell playing the sarrusophone and I would like
to know more about these horns.
Thanks for letting me join this group.
Gilberto
Hi everybody,
I have just joined this Group and I still do not have a sarru, so if
anyone is willing to sell a contrabass one please let me know.
thanks
Hi! Happy sarrusophones fans
I am Jean-Jacques Pags, male , 56 years old, living near Paris France,
up to now I was playing saxophones as a hobby in various music bands,
I have a particuliar trend towards the big sounds, I regularly play
baritone saxophone and bass saxophone (I owne 1x Selmer SA80II siver
plated from 1993 and a Conn 1924 siver plated+gold bell)
I recently (last week) bought a CC contrabass Sarrusophone made in
1889 by Couesnon (successor of Gautrot, the inventor of Sarrusophone),
tjis instrument is nickel plated and in good playing condition, I
intend to have for him a good overhaul and maybe to have it sivet
plated
in the group is there other french players?
is there any CC contrabass players?
Dear everyone,
I occasionally get bizarre bassoon-related spam to my personal email
address. One arrived today which had a link to:
<http://doublereed.club.fr/bassoons/bassoons.html>. The page has quite a
few pictures of sarrusophones towards the bottom (and click on the
photos for more pictures). Not sure how well known this site is to
double-reed players (I'm still as saxophonist with a sarrusophone on my
"buy when rich" list!) or how legitimate those photos are, but it
diverted my attention for a few minutes!
Best wishes,
Jacob

Yes, a bocal could be made. The trick is finding someone to do it
and obtaining accurate measurements from an existing Conn. Probably
the best place to check are bassoon forums. A question there might
get some leads.

Hello fellow sarrusofans - I've been invited to exhibit my Tribert Eb
baritone sarrusophone by the Charles River Museum of Industry as part
of their "Innovations of Yesteryear" exhibit on Saturday, September
13th at Landry Park in Waltham, MA. If any of you happen to be in the
New England area then, I invite you to stop by. If you'd like to be
part of the show yourself, I will post a copy of the .pdf file of the
event flyer in the "Files" section of this group. Hope to see you there!

Hi all,
Anyone looking for sarrusophones can currently find *two* on ebay:
Gautrot alto:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230252860082
Buffet Crampon tenor:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230252848251
Fortunately, these were not posted by the Beijing Bandit, but are
being sold by Music Treasures, who have long had an antique musical
instrument business (not that I have had any transactions with them).
Asking prices for the horns are US$12K and US$10K, respectively.
Enjoy!

Subject: [Sarrusophone] Looking for Eb Contrabass Sarrusophone
I am wondering what the chances are of finding a Eb Contrabass Sarrusophone for anywhere near a reasonable price? I realize I may be insulting any collectors and/or investors out there, but I am NOT looking for an instrument as a collectible or investment, but rather one I can actually play and not worry about an occasional dent or two.
Anyway, I would like to find an instrument - doesn't have to be perfect or even decent looking, but I would like for it to be complete - I can do any repairs, as long as all or most of the parts are there. Is this a complete waste of time?
Item #250238741459 is listed as a bari sax. There do not seem to be any
sarrusophones listed presently on Ebay. Do you have another item number
for a sarrusophone?
