Hi Everyone,
Hope you are enjoying the slight reprieve from fall weather this week. Here is
a quick reminder about our great show this Saturday, Nov. 14, 209 with Dennis
Stroughmatt and Creole Stomp.
The hall looks great with it's new paint job, carpet and lighting. We have also
purchased 38 chairs with the generous donations from both the zydeco and Eagles
communities. We'd love to have a total of 50 chairs so if you were thinking of
helping us out in the past, there is still time. You can bring cash or a check
this weekend to donate a chair ($20/ea) or mail a check made payable to FOE
#1545 to 7 Old Albany Post Road, Ossining, NY 10562. There is also another big
surprise at the hall but I'm not going to tell you about it. You will just have
to come experience it yourself. Believe me, you will be happy! :-)
Here are the details and a little about this week's dance and band:
When: Sat. Nov. 14, 2009 Dance lesson at 7pm; music from 8-11:30. Cost: $20/pp
Where: 7 Old Albany Post Road, Ossining, NY 10562
Info: 914-960-9057
Dennis Stroughmatt and Creole Stomp, a nationally touring Creole, Cajun, and
Zydeco band is on the move to bring the best in Louisiana French music and
entertainment to audiences of listeners and dancers across the country. Formed
and led by French speaking Cajun/Creole Accordionist and Fiddler Dennis
Stroughmatt, Creole Stomp is striving to not only entertain, but also to educate
audiences about American French culture and music. Having lived in Louisiana and
Quebec, Canada (and still touring in North America and Europe with many
Louisiana based Cajun and Creole-Zydeco bands on occasion), Dennis only knows
how to play it "downhome" and always has a sound that is fresh and "straight
from the bayous and prairies" of southwest Louisiana.
Please help us spread the word about this event. If you would like a PDF flier
to print and hang, e-mail me and I will get one to you.

Hi Everyone,
In case there is any confusion, Major Handy and his band will be at the Eagles
Hall at 7 Old Albany Post Road in Ossining, NY this Sunday, Sept. 27 from 5pm
(dance lesson) to 9:30pm.
Hope to see you there.
Laura
Hi Everyone!
How are you enjoying the beautiful fall weather? The schedule is killing me but
it will settle down soon, I'm sure. We have a great band coming this Sunday,
Sept. 27th! Be sure to catch Major Handy in their only appearance in the area!
As a bonus, Major Handy and his wife Frances Haymark will be doing the dance
lesson at 5pm. As usual, our Sunday shows start off with a dance lesson at 5pm
and we'll have music from 6-9:30pm. $20 Please help us spread the word and
invite a friend or two to a join us! Here is a little more about the band.
Major Handy--Music was his fate, probably before he even realized it. Handy's
early gigs came mostly on guitar, including a job with Buckwheat Zydeco's
original lineup and then with Rockin' Sidney. He's gone on to become one of
today's finest Zydeco and blues accordion players, steeped in the traditional
styles of masters Clifton Chenier and Fernest Arceneaux. Handy, who is nicknamed
the Zydeco Bad Boy, has recorded two albums for GNP as well as a couple of songs
on the Maison de Soul Records release, 100 Proof Zydeco. He has an upcoming
release on APO Records, which was recorded at Blue Heaven Studios. Zydeco
Feeling is among the strongest front-to-back offerings in the APO Records
catalog. And Track Three "I'm On A Wonder" might just be the best slow blues the
label has yet recorded. Accordion-led and with half the lyrics in French,
neither declaration would look likely to the unknowing, but Major Handy offers
such bare emotion, building and smoldering, the performance on each song
seemingly inspiring the next.
Thanks to all the generous people (both Eagles and zydeco enthusiasts) who have
donated chairs to the Eagles Hall. We now have 38!!!! I would love to get 12
more for an even 50, so if you wanted to help us out, there is still time.
Well, that's it for now! Hope you have a good weekend and to see you Sunday
evening to wrap it up with a great zydeco band!
Take care,
Laura
Hi Everyone,
I know it's only Tuesday but it's never too early to make plans for the weekend!
We're happy to say we have Lil' Malcolm and the House Rockers coming to the
Eagles Hall at 7 Old Albany Post Road in Ossining, NY. Since it's a Sunday
dance, we will have a dance lesson at 5pm and music from 6-9:30pm--$20. Please
help us spread the word! Here's a little more about the band:
Lil' Malcolm & The House Rockers personify two closely related terms: family and
tradition. This five-man band centers on guitarist Percy Walker and his two
sons, drummer Percy Walker, Jr. and accordionist Lil' Malcolm Walker. Inspired
by Zydeco legends like Buckwheat Zydeco and Rockin' Dopsie, the band's steady
focus on tradition sets them apart from the newest wave of "pop Zydeco" bands.
Percy Walker, Sr. began his musical career at an early age, learning to play the
drums from his older brother Joe Walker. He soon moved to guitar, then bass,
then accordion. Percy began playing in bands at the age of ten, even playing
with the legendary Rockin' Dopsie during his musical career. Eventually he
formed a band of his own, Percy Walker & The House Rockers. Lil' Malcolm & The
House Rockers also place a strong emphasis on creating live shows that are
exciting and fun. "We let the crowd enjoy (the music) with us," remarks Percy
Walker, Sr., adding that he likes to pull audience members onto the stage to
dance and play with the band. The House Rockers note that keeping tradition in
Zydeco is the best way to make the music enjoyable. By honoring the musical
styles that were successfully established by legendary Zydeco figures, the House
Rockers are a band that is sure to please.
Mark your calendars for our future shows:

Major Handy

Hi Everyone,
First off I want to thank the folks who braved the torrential downpours on
Sunday to help us re-open the club with Jesse Lege and Bayou Brew. It was
wonderful to hear the "oohs" & "ahhs" and all the lovely comments about the new
decor. The "smoke free" atmosphere was a dream and as always the music was
first-rate. I also want to thank the folks who contributed to our chair
campaign! We have enough money for 11 chairs already! For those who may have
missed my last post explaining the Chair Campaign, I will explain it later in
the e-mail.
What I really want to do is announce our next show!!! NY's own Zydegroove will
be entertaining us on Aug. 22nd!! They have received rave reviews in Nyack for
their Sunday gigs and we're thrilled to have them in Ossining. Zydegroove is
from NY but their sound is straight from Louisiana!! We'll have a dance lesson
at 7pm and music from 8-11:30pm. $20 Please help us spread the word.

when we will have Li'l Malcolm and the House Rockers (7pm dance lesson;music
8-11:30)! We will also be announcing our fall dance lessons. They will
probably start in mid-Oct. on Wed. nights. I will firm up the dates ASAP but
wanted to give you a head's up for planning.
Now for the info on the new chair campaign. In the past, I've had several

Hi again,
Can't believe I forgot to list my favorite summertime C/Z experience in
August--Buffalo Jambalaya!!! It will be held in Darlington, MD Aug. 6-9th this
year. Here is a little bit about the long weekend:
Buffalo Jambalaya 2009 -The BEST in Cajun/Zydeco music and dance!
Buffalo Jambalaya Ingredients:
• Three great bands a day, for four days! - This year's bands are Feufollet,
Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole, and Andre Thierry And Zydeco Magic. Each band
will play a full set on each of the four days.
• Cajun & Zydeco dance lessons for all levels - basic skills, beginning and
advanced dance lessons for both Cajun and Zydeco will be held.
• Musical instrument workshops led by our guest artists - These are not formal
lessons, but a chance to ask the band members questions and learn from them. You
must provide your own instrument.
• Craft artists helping you create Louisiana-style folk art - Leslie and
Nadine's class was a big hit last year. Click here for some photos and more
details.
• Cajun/Creole culture corner - Sit down in a small circle and ask questions,
hear stories and learn a little as artists share their culture and lives.
• Midnight jam sessions led by one of the bands - Everybody is welcome to bring
an instrument and join in or you can just relax and listen or get up and dance.
It goes as long as you stay!
• Scrumptious Cajun cooking - We bring in a great Louisiana chef for a wide and
varied Cajun menu.
• Hiking, volleyball, basketball, tennis or lazing in the sun at the pool -
There's always lots to do, including nothing.
Pour all the ingredients together into Camp Ramblewood, mix thoroughly, add your
own alcohol and it makes a great Buffalo Jambalaya!

OK, now I'll really leave you to enjoy your spring and summer events.
Take care,
Laura

for dancing, great food, and a bar. It's a great family scene in the tradition
of dances as they are held in Louisiana, so bring the kids -- they really enjoy
it. We also have guest musicians sit in whenever possible. Call Laren for band

Hi again,
Forgot to mention that The New Yorker is accessible by train. Take the train to
the Peekskill station and take a short cab ride. The fare should be similar to
the fare from Croton to The Eagles.
Thanks,
Laura
Hi Everyone,
We are really excited about this Sunday's show with Preston Frank and Big Daddy
Zydeco but we have had to change the venue for Sunday's show. The show will now
be held at The New Yorker at 824 Washington Street in Peekskill, NY 10566. It's
only 10 min. north of the Eagles Hall. Please help us spread the word. In the
event that people show up to the Eagles Hall, there will be a sign and
directions to the new venue. All other details are the same and listed below:
We have Preston Frank and Big Daddy Zydeco coming. Preston will be joined by 3
former members of Donna the Buffalo--Jim Miller, Tom Gilbert, & Jed Greenberg.
We'll have a dance lesson at 5pm and music from 6-9:30pm. Feel free to bring
any appetizer or dessert you had planned to bring to The New Yorker. Let's
celebrate our 100th show!!
As you have probably heard, this will be our last show for awhile! We don't have
any shows scheduled at this time for June or July so be sure to come get your
dose of zydeco and the Eagles Hall before our little hiatus and help us
celebrate our 100th show at the Eagles!!!
Take care,
Laura

I'm still recovering from last night's tremendous show with Leroy Thomas and the

grand success. And while we're talking about statistics and milestones, as I
was doing some bookkeeping,I realized that next Sunday, May 17th, will be our
100th show at the Eagles Hall!!! I'm hoping you will help us celebrate by
bringing an appetizer or dessert to share! It's been a great 7 years and we
really appreciate your support and love for the music and community.
So here is some more info about next week's show. We have Preston Frank and Big
Daddy Zydeco coming. Preston will be joined by 3 former members of Donna the
Buffalo--Jim Miller, Tom Gilbert, & Jed Greenberg. We'll have a dance lesson at
5pm and music from 6-9:30pm.

Hi Everyone,
We're happy to welcome Lil' Anne and Hot Cayenne back to Ossining this
weekend!!! Li'l Anne and Hot Cayenne are one of the northeast's most popular
zydeco acts. The band frequently headlines major dance events and is often
featured on the bill of several regional music festivals. There are many reasons
for their popularity, which is also beginning to extend across the country as a
result of their invitations to perform at some of the more popular Zydeco venues
in Louisiana and to work with such Zydeco notables as Roy Carrier and Sean
Ardoin. Their live performances are both exciting and hard driving, and they
can be counted on to get their entire audience up on the dance floor. As usual
the event is at the Eagles Hall at 7 Old Albany Post Road, Ossining, NY. We'll
have a dance lesson at 7pm and music from 8-11:30 pm, $20. Please help spread
the word and invite a friend or two!
In May we have two great shows planned--May 9th we'll have Leroy Thomas and the
Zydeco Roadrunners and on May 17th Preston Frank and Big Daddy Zydeco will
entertain us! More on those shows to come. On a sad note, the July 19th show
with the Pine Leaf Boys has been canceled due to a schedule conflict. We'll
work on getting them back next season.
As many of you know festival season is almost upon us. Stay tuned for my
festival e-mail that highlights the cajun and zydeco festivals this spring and
summer. If you want to the get scoop early, you can go to Arn Burkhoff's
schedule website http://www.arnb.org/Schedule.php
Take care and I hope to see many of you out this weekend for Li'l Anne and Hot
Cayenne!

Hi Everyone,
This is from our good friend Lois Lefkowitz, whose mom recently passed away in
Nyack. Please help if you are a cat lover and able.
From Lois:
"Bebe's Cats Need Your Help
On March 10 my mom, Bebe passed away. Bebe bravely fought cancer 4 times over
the past 15 years, all the while maintaining her well known sense of humor. My
mom, proprietor of Sew What's New fabric store in Nyack, NY loved animals,
rescuing many in her lifetime. At the time of her death, Bebe share her home
with six senior but healthy cats. These poor, sweet cats are now in need of
loving foster or adoptive homes to spend their golden years. If you are
interested in learning more about one or more of these cats or can help in any
way, please contact LoisLHT@... or call 703 749 7949.
THANK YOU!
The cat's names are Georgie, Gracie, Nany, Henry, Vixen, & Delilah

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the duplication, thought you might want to know which day this
weekend. Augh! Here's the revised message for this Sat. April 4th!
Just a quick reminder that this Sat. April 4th, Somebody Scream NY is proud to
present the hottest young accordion player in Louisiana, Corey Ledet, teaming up

Corey's red-hot accordion with The Hogs' rock-solid rhythm is going to drive
dancers into a frenzy! Don't miss this special opportunity to see and hear the
best of
Louisiana along with the best of the Northeast. The show will be at the Eagles
Hall at 7 Old Albany Post Road in Ossining, NY. Admission is $20 and we'll have
a dance lesson at 7pm and music from 8-11:30pm.
Invite your friends, family, neighbors or co-workers! A fun time will be had by
all.
