I seem to like to overwhelm myself. I started working on rewriting a little ditty last week and made some progress but haven't gotten much further. It was a good week though for music and writing. I've been working pretty steadily on my music theory book for guitar and got a chance to share some songs with a new friend who is a pretty amazing songwriter. Coolness! I'm starting to look into writing custom songs for people to commemorate big events of people. I know a woman in the area who's been doing this very successfully for the last for years now. (Look her up if you like, Anna Huckabee Tull, she's pretty amazing. There are of course half a dozen other things going on in my life right now that all require a good amount of attention. Mostly I'm moving over the weekend so I'm off to pick up more boxes in a few minutes. Also I start a new job today. Hows about that? Who's headed back to Song School this year from the group? I'm getting really excited for the trip right about now. Very excited. I just bought two Josh Ritter Albums last night :)

Hi Tim and everyone-
How was the rewriting week (oh, yeah a whole week ago now) for you all? I didn’t make any time for music of any kind – except what I listened to while driving. Grrr. It’s turned out to be a bigger adjustment than I expected having the kids around all the time. (Two teenagers and their 2 neighborhood friends who more or less live here during the summer). It is always noisy here!
So instead of writing and editing songs, I’ve been editing my house. I pulled everything out of the back room (ostensibly my studio/office, but much more like a tornado-addled junk room) and just finished painting it. Today only what I really need goes back in – and then perhaps since I’ll have a place of my own and a door to close, I’ll get back to writing!
Or else all of that is a really elaborate excuse to avoid working on stuck songs. You never know...
;^)
Hope all is well for the rest of you!

Hey all,
So yesterday was a lot of fun even with some rewriting mixed into the day. I started to look at a song I'd done mid-february. Most of the lyrics are nonsense but there were a couple lines in I really liked and I found the melody and chords interesting. So after a day of hanging out with a lady-type person and generally futzing around I sat down at a bar for a burger and a beer and starting playing with the lyrics. I found it kind of hard going at first as some old habits of focusing on all the stuff that's wrong with it... and more over what I want the song to become took over. Then I made the conscious choice to start with just the stuff i liked and start asking where I might go from there. Well, I finished my beer and went next door to listen to some friends play and enjoy more beer and drips and drabs of lines and inspiration came along as I sat there. So... that's my story from yesterday. What's your story?
