Hey all,
I wanted to send out a quick e-mail/update on song a day.
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who's played along in
the past year as I experimented with this thing. It's been amazing.
I've learned a lot and I know y'all have too.
In July I started to experiment with doing the song a day
challenge with people one on one. What I discovered were a few things
that got me really excited. First was the intimacy of that experience.
It was a treat to come home every day and have a newly recorded demo
of a brand new song in my inbox. It was a bit like a conversation in
song. It was also a lot like Christmas for me. Second, was the
increased accountability that seemed to exist between two people
instead of a large group. We had planned to do the week together
about two months out. The week was set aside. We were going to write
songs and we did.
Since then I've been out to the Rocky Mountain Song School and
back again in August and I've done a couple more song a days one on
one with people. The latter has led me to the conclusion that the
larger group format for song a day doesn't really work the way I'd
like it to.
Where does that leave the group? Well, the group as something
that I actively moderate is over for the foreseeable future. If
you're interested in diving into a song a day any time send me along
an e-mail and we can set up a week that works for us both to dive in.
If anyone is interested in taking the reins and moderating this group
you can send me an e-mail about that too. I'd also encourage you to
find people who you'd be excited to share a song a day week with and
get one going yourself.
Thanks again for helping me through an amazing year of song
writing. It's been a great ride. All the best! And be gentle with
yourselves.
