PALM BEACH COUNTY
1. Palm Beach County Full Moon Drum Circle (Lake Worth Beach)
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18TH
Monthly on the night of the full Moon, Lake Worth FL, 8-11pm (or later - till they close the park),
free (except for parking meters)
"For the Lunar eclipse in February we had over 160 people. Generally we have 80+ drummers,
dancers, fire-performers, and quiet on-lookers. This has become a wonderful 'tribal' celebration,
the perfect confluence of the 5 elements - soft sand underfoot (Earth/smell), gently-lapping waves
(water/taste), full Moon reflecting the Sun (fire/sight), soft ocean breezes (air/touch), and enchant-
ing rhythms (space/hearing) - this is sub-tropical South Florida at its finest. Come join us - don't
miss this gathering!"
Held: On the beach just north of the Lake Worth Ocean Pier, at the back of the park, Lake Ave. at
A1A, Lake Worth FL
Notes:
a. The park officially closes at 11pm, although rarely does anyone come around to enforce that.
b. Remember, it can be chilly on the beach during the cooler months - dress accordingly.
c. THIS EVENT HAPPENS RAIN OR SHINE - in case of rain, or if it gets too windy on the beach,
we drum/dance under the huge picnic shelter (pavilion) in the same park, 100 yds. west of the
beach - you drive past it on your left after you've entered the park. It's well-protected by a hill
from the ocean wind.
d. Fire-performers are welcome to perform right in the drum circle.
e. Dancers of all styles and experience levels are warmly welcome to improvise to the drumming,
to request particular rhythms, and to interact with the drummers.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
1. Miami Beach Full Moon Drum Circle
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18TH
Monthly on the night of the full Moon, Miami Beach FL, free

It continues till "very late".
Remember, it can be chilly on the beach during the cooler months - dress accordingly.
Held at:
"The public announcements for the Full Moon Eve and Full Moon Night drum circles were stopped
because the rave/wild beach party atmosphere that had developed, including large numbers of young
people and alcohol/drugs, drew the attention of the local authorities, and caused arrests and closing
of some drum circles by the police." "This does not mean that the drum circles have stopped. They
are just not being publicly advertised. People are getting in touch with each other directly and going
out to drum at various different places on Miami Beach on the Full Moon Eve, the Full Moon Night,
and even the New Moon Night." "Sometimes we use the open discussion site [listed below] to coordi-
nate, but mostly we just call each other by phone."
For the most up-to-date info on where they plan to gather this month, go to the website/discussion
group below, or contact Mark Richards or any other Miami area drummer that is 'in the loop'.
For June - Mark reports that folks may meet at the beach at 75th and Collins (A1A).

1. Tequesta Bonfire Drum Circle - Summer Solstice Gathering
FRIDAY, JUNE 20TH
Held every Solstice & Equinox - at the start of each season, Ft. Lauderdale FL, 8pm-1am, $5 en-
trance fee per adult (kids under 10 free), fee goes toward event costs (insurance, staffing - hiring
park rangers for the night, etc.).

1. A large bonfire with great live drumming and dancing
2. An (optional) potluck snack buffet - if you plan to partake, please bring a snack or drink to share
3. A brief Nature-centered ceremony to welcome in the season (at about 10pm): a poetry reading
by authors of Lavender Writes, poetry to Nature, and other spoken words.
4. Performers are very welcome
5. Seasonal community altar - to collectively charge any items you wish to bring. (Be sure to
remember to take your items home!)
This is a primitive camp setting, with outhouse-style bathrooms. Come picnic style - bring water,
snacks, citronella (for the bugs), seating or blanket, drums or other rhythm-makers, your bright
smiles and good energy.
"People of all life-affirming spiritual and philosophical paths are invited to come together under the
beautiful canopy of the sky, in a reserved 'native Florida coastal habitat' It's an opportunity to align
our thoughts and energies with our own core of being, with the seasonal shifts on our planet (Earth),
with the energy effects of our star (the Sun), and with the powers of the universe that form all things
(which you may call God/Goddess, Spirit, Nature, laws of evolution, etc.). The Tequesta (tuh-kes-
tuh) Drum Circle is named after one of the ancient tribes who inhabited lands around SE Florida
prior to European and Seminole arrival - and gives us an opportunity to remember that legacy. Ce-
remonial dress is welcomed, but not required."
"This is a family-oriented celebration for those who hold the importance of our relationship to our
home planet, the Earth. Come be a part of the celebration, look up into the night sky, breathe, and
remember our intrinsic connection to both planet and universe."
"Every 90 days or so our planet transits a key point on its journey around our parent Star which
shifts the balance of light entering into our world. This light continually feeds a tremendously com-
plex array of living systems that have co-evolved for billions of years. The shift creates a cascading
ebb and flow of cycles in each hemisphere creating what we know as Spring, Summer, Winter, and
Fall, and inspires us to observe these natural transits of our planet as Sacred Days."
Guidelines:
1. No photography!
2. No intoxication (alcohol or drugs). Be responsible; be respectful. Police are on-site.
3. Recycle. Bins will be provided. Please bring biodegradable products.
4. Ecological and holistic materials welcome to be distributed at the entrance table.
5. Fire-performers must get permission from Ranger Mark Foley before lighting up.
Newsletter Publisher's note:
This is one of the biggest and best drum circles in our area. It only happens four times a year (at
the changes of season - the solstices and equinoxes), bringing together drummers and dancers
from five counties for one big unified celebration. Don't miss it! You don't have to be a good danc-
er or drummer - everyone is lovingly welcomed and appreciated. You can drum (or play any per-
cussion gadget that you have), dance, or just watch and socialize.

This year the Summer Solstice is 6:59pm on June 20th, when the Sun enters zero degrees
Cancer. The full moon in June is known as the 'Mead Moon' or the 'Honey Moon' due to the
traditional activities of gathering the honey, which was used to make honey mead. June is also
the favorite month in which to be married, hence the term of going on a 'honeymoon.' The
Summer Soltice is the first day of Summer and marks the division of the year and the peak
power of the Sun. Just as the light or waxing half of the year began at the Winter Solstice with
the longest night, the dark or waning half of the year begins now at the Summer Solstice with
the longest day. The Summer Soltice name of 'Litha' is a modern usage, based on a Saxon
word that means the opposite of Yule (Winter solstice). June was perhaps named after the
Roman Junius Brutus, or was named in honor of the goddess of marriage and childbirth, Juno.
Juno was the wife of Jupiter, known as Hera to the Greeks, and as Saturnia to the Romans.
