The Full Moon for this area is Friday, July 18th (at 3:00am).
There are numerous local full Moon drum circles (most on the 18th, one on the 17th,
one on the 16th), so there is probably one close to and timely for you.
This Full Moon is called 'Guru Purnimah'
This is a very significant full Moon in the Eastern (vedic/yogic) tradition. It is a special,
once-a-year holiday called 'Guru Purnimah' - the holiday to celebrate and remember the
tradition of teachers of Truth. Whatever your personal tradition, look at the full Moon
(which is relatively small, dark, and lifeless on its own) reflecting the glory of the Sun
(which is huge, brilliant, and the source of life in this 'neighborhood') - just as our finite
human teachers reflect the glory of the infinite, transcendental source of life - and give
thanks to all the teachers who, over the course of your life, have helped remind you of
who you really are, and have helped guide you to express your vastness and radiance
in daily life. Jai Guru Dev

2. Palm Beach County Full Moon Drum Circle (Lake Worth Beach)
FRIDAY, JULY 18TH
Monthly on the night of the full Moon, Lake Worth FL, 8-11pm (or later - till they close the park),
free (except for parking meters)
"For the Lunar eclipse in February we had over 160 people. Generally we have 80+ drummers,
dancers, fire-performers, and quiet on-lookers. This has become a wonderful 'tribal' celebration,
the perfect confluence of the 5 elements - soft sand underfoot (Earth/smell), gently-lapping waves
(water/taste), full Moon reflecting the Sun (fire/sight), soft ocean breezes (air/touch), and enchant-
ing rhythms (space/hearing) - this is sub-tropical South Florida at its finest. Come join us - don't
miss this gathering!"
Held: On the beach just north of the Lake Worth Ocean Pier, at the back of the park, Lake Ave. at
A1A, Lake Worth FL
Notes:
a. The park officially closes at 11pm, although rarely does anyone come around to enforce that.
b. Remember, it can be chilly on the beach during the cooler months - dress accordingly.
c. THIS EVENT HAPPENS RAIN OR SHINE - in case of rain, or if it gets too windy on the beach,
we drum/dance under the huge picnic shelter (pavilion) in the same park, 100 yds. west of the
beach - you drive past it on your left after you've entered the park. It's well-protected by a hill
from the ocean wind.
d. Fire-performers are welcome to perform right in the drum circle.
e. Dancers of all styles and experience levels are warmly welcome to improvise to the drumming,
to request particular rhythms, and to interact with the drummers.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
1. Miami Beach Full Moon Drum Circle
FRIDAY, JULY 18TH
Monthly on the night of the full Moon, Miami Beach FL, free
Time: there is some controversy - some say that it starts at 9:30 or 10pm, others say 8 or 8:30pm.
It continues till "very late".
Remember, it can be chilly on the beach during the cooler months - dress accordingly.
Held at:
"The public announcements for the Full Moon Eve and Full Moon Night drum circles were stopped
because the rave or wild beach party atmosphere that had developed, including large numbers of
young people and alcohol/drugs, drew the attention of the local authorities, and caused arrests and
closing of some drum circles by the police." "This does not mean that the drum circles have stopped.
They are just not being publicly advertised. People are getting in touch with each other directly and
going out to drum at various different places on Miami Beach on the Full Moon Eve, the Full Moon
Night, and even the New Moon Night." "Sometimes we use the open discussion site [listed below] to
coordinate, but mostly we just call each other by phone."
For the most up-to-date info on where they plan to gather this month, go to the website/discussion
group below, or contact Mark Richards or any other Miami area drummer that is 'in the loop'.
On that website - both 75th and 85th at Collins (A1A) are the most commonly mentioned
locations for this drum circle gathering.

Monthly on the night BEFORE the full Moon, Miami Beach FL, free
Time: (there is some controversy) - some say that it starts at 8 or 8:30pm, others say 8:30pm.

Some good drummers come the night BEFORE the full moon to avoid the chaos of the full moon
drum circle. Remember, it can be chilly on the beach during the cooler months - dress accordingly.

same information applies here as well.

FRIDAY, JULY 18TH
Monthly on the night of the full Moon
Began April 2008, 7-9pm, $10
Coordinated by Carlos Manuel Planas and Jude Byrne. We meet in a church, have a spiri-
tually-flavored drum circle, and therefore have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol scene. We
want to create a non-threatening safe space, a family atmosphere. We believe that the music
on its own creates a healing, natural high, so artificial ingredients are not needed in this envi-
ronment. All instruments are welcome. People show up with djembes, doumbeks, congas,
etc. Latin rhythms may predominate, but all rhythms are welcome.
Held at: Unity on the Bay Church, 411 NE 21st St., Miami FL, near Biscayne Bay

3. DRUM CIRCLE OPPORTUNITIES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are about 50 opportunities to drum/dance each month in our SE Florida area - from
Miami-Dade, through Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin Counties!
• Some repeat weekly, or monthly, or on the full or new Moons, and some are special one-time
events
• Some are outdoors (parks, beaches, backyards...) and some are indoors (homes, businesses,
churches, bars, arenas...)
• Some are in the daytime and some are at night
• Some are hidden away & private and some are public & almost exhibitionistic
• Some are eclectic world-beat improv/jam sessions and some focus on more repetitive trance-
drumming, or on drumming from just one cultural tradition (African, Latin, Middle-Eastern,
Native American, etc.)
• Some have bonfires, some have candles, some have the Sun or the Moon
• Some have entertainers (fire-twirlers, fire-breathers, poi-spinners, etc.)
• Some are strongly-led, some are mildly guided, and some are leaderless
• Some are flavored by a particular spiritual tradition (Pagan, Christian, Native American, Yogic/
Vedic, etc.) and some are free of any mention of any beliefs (politics, religion, etc.)
• Most are clothed, but one weekly drum circle is hosted by a clothing-optional (nudist) community
• Some have lessons before-hand and some don't
• Some attract only a handful of participants and some draw 100 or even 400+ drummers/dancers!
Try out a few drum circles and find the style(s) and vibes that you enjoy.
