HELD AT
The home of Michael Dean Goodman and PremShakti
4855 Belvedere Rd., Haverhill (West Palm Beach) FL 33415
Just west of the Palm Beach Airport, 2 blocks west of Military Tr., on the NE Corner of
Belvedere Rd. & Park Ln.
DIRECTIONS
1. From I-95, exit at Belvedere Rd. - then turn left onto Belvedere Rd. westbound
2. Pass the airport on the left, round the curve, pass Military Trail (stoplight/Wal-Mart)
3. Turn right on the 2nd street past Military Tr. (Park Ln.) 1 block before Haverhill Rd.
Our house is the NE corner of Belvedere Rd. & Park Ln. ('4855' on the mailbox).
PARKING
1. The 1st 20 cars to arrive should park in our front & back yards (on the grass). Do
not park on our driveway - leave that free for people to get on and off the grass.
2. After that, please park only on the east (right) side of Park Ln. - NOT blocking any
driveway (look carefully). Drop off heavy objects (drums, food, etc.) first & then park.
3. Once cars are parked a full block down Park Ln., please park on the next street east.
Go back out onto Belvedere, go west to the light at Haverhill and make a u-turn, go
east past Park Ln., turn left (north) on the next street (Concord Ave.), make a u-turn
and park on the (left) west side of the street, on the grass next to the street. You'll
have a shorter walk than parking far down Park Ln., and be safer (closer to a busy
street, better lit). Of course, when parking anywhere, be smart - don't leave valuables
sitting in plain view - hide them.
4. Please don't pull into any neighbors' driveways or yards to turn around, especially late
at night when leaving. The activity, and bright lights, disturb and frighten them, and they
complain to the City. To exit our neighborhood, you don't have to turn around on Park
Ln. Continue north and there's a street 2 blocks down going left (west) to Haverhill Rd.

which no longer serves our highest good. The second round brings in that which we want
to increase in our lives. The final round is for sending healing to others and the planet.
You need not have ever drummed before or have your own drum to participate.
Led by David A. Cronin (owner of Changing Times) and Buckley Griffis

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30TH, SEPTEMBER 6TH & 20TH Updated listing
Jupiter Beach Drum Circle (Juno Beach)
The 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday of each month, 8pm-1am, free
Bob says: "This drum circle will go on rain or shine. It will be canceled only if winds ex-
ceeding 35 knots are forecast by http://www.accuweather.com. Possible conflicts with
astronomical events (full or new Moons, solstices, equinoxes), wars, insurrection, other
'important' drum events, or alien invasions will be ignored, and not affect scheduling with-
out notice."
Editor's note: We received complaints that, in spite of the cancelation policy stated above,
Bob canceled this circle on August 16th, with only 3-hours advance notice, via the following
cryptic e-mail to their Yahoo Group. Some people didn't see that e-mail till the next day (if
they subscribe to the digest version of the list as I do, or if they prefer to check their mes-
sages on the website]. The e-mail gave no reason for the cancelation. (No, there was no
excessive wind problem that evening.) So apparently it would be wise to call and confirm
that this circle is happening before going. Here's the e-mail:

Palm Beach County Full Moon Drum Circle (Lake Worth Beach)
SATURDAY, AUGUST 16TH Updated listing
Monthly on the night of the full Moon, Lake Worth FL, 8pm-midnight, free (except for
parking meters)
Please - anti-authoritarian folks, drugs, alcohol, and showboating are unwelcome.
This is a community-oriented drum circle, famous for it's good feeling, mutual re-
spect, and emphasis on group coherence.
"In the last two months we've had 110+ and 130+ people. This event just keeps growing.
This has become a wonderful 'tribal' celebration, with drummers, dancers, fire-performers,
and quiet on-lookers. It's the perfect confluence of the 5 elements - soft sand underfoot
(Earth/smell), gently-lapping waves (water/taste), full Moon reflecting the Sun (fire/sight),
soft ocean breezes (air/touch), and enchanting rhythms (space/hearing) - this is sub-tro-
pical South Florida at its finest. Please come join us - don't miss this gathering!" - Michael
Goodman, event coordinator
EVENT GUIDELINES - FOR EVERYONE'S MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT NEW!
This is a community drum circle with leadership that mostly remains unseen and trusts the
collective consciousness of the group. But many of you are aware that the two other large
full Moon drum circles in our area (Ft. Lauderdale for Broward County, and Miami Beach
for Miami-Dade County) were both kicked off their beaches last year by the local authori-
ties, due to out-of-control anti-authoritarian behavior and drug/alcohol use, amplified by
drum circle leaders who for years were afraid to, or unskilled at, asserting some leader-
ship and giving those circles some direction and guidance. It is predictable: in the ab-
sence of useful leadership - egos, anti-authority battles, and anarchy reign.
The Broward circle, eventually and with difficulty, found a new location (Pompano Beach).
But to avoid the same problems from re-developing, they don't publicize their location, and
they strictly ban drugs, alcohol, and fire performances. They've gone from 200+ people in
attendance last year down to 20 now. The Miami circle has never found a new beach lo-
cation; they move from one beach to another each month, don't publicly announce where
they'll be, and try to stay small in attendance and unnoticed by the police. Both circles,
with many, many years of history, have had the life knocked out of them.
Many local drummers and dancers in Palm Beach County have approached me (in my
role as event coordinator) and asked me to take action to prevent the anarchy and alcohol/
drug problems that destroyed those other full Moon drum circles, especially now that our
Lake Worth full Moon drum circle is growing in popularity and getting so much bigger. Be-
haviors that were no problem when we had 25 people become big problems when we're
approaching 150. And our event and location are worth protecting! It is a very beautiful
gathering, appreciated by many, and there are NO other beaches that we could move to
that meet all our criteria (e.g. no residences nearby to complain about noise, easy parking,
open till late at night, centrally located in Palm Beach County, cooperative local authorities,
etc.)
Some recent behavior - rudeness and disrespect of our leadership and traditions, drum-
mers who showboat and create division in the circle, blatant drug use, etc. - have caused
many of our people to speak up and ask me to give some leadership and direction to the
event. Since I've led drum circles for years (this one and others), and professionally or-
ganized large events for decades, and since I'm a trained consultant in group dynamics, I
have no difficulty in recognizing and taking the necessary action - by establishing and en-
forcing some common-sense guidelines that set down in writing the culture and feeling
that have made our full Moon drum circle so special for so many of us.
These guidelines will make the evening more enjoyable for the great majority, and ensure
our continued peaceful use of this precious beach, by making it clear to everyone what kind
of behavior is and is not acceptable at this event. This is not a power trip, nor designed to
control people and tell them what to do; if they don't like the energy and culture of our cir-
cle they are free to create other full Moon drum events more to their liking. And 95% of us
who attend this circle already follow these natural courtesies spontaneously; but to nip any
developing problems in the bud, I'm publishing these event guidelines. Each one is based
on actual experiences that we've had at drum circles over the years, and on the lessons
that we've learned from those experiences:
(a) Big drum circles don't work so well if drummers are noticably chemically altered (alco-
hol/drugs); please don't arrive in, or transform into, that state. Altered awareness makes
social judgement poor (we miss or misinterpret social cues about the responses of others
to our behavior/drumming), makes it difficult to pay attention to the rhythms and energies
of others (it's hard to play well with the group), and alters one's sense of time (rhythm).
Plus, alcohol/drug use is illegal on this beach and jeapordizes our good standing with the
Lake Worth police and Lake Worth city government.
(b) It works best if all the drummers stand or sit near each other (not way across the big
circle, or outside the circle), really listen to each other, and avoid forming separate sub-
circles inside or outside of the main community circle.
(c) When a group rhythm ends, let it end! Please allow there to be some silence, and see
what new rhythm emerges out of that silence.
(d) Please - no drum cowboys - no showboating; make group coherence more important
than individual fulfillment. Make it a group jam session, a 'drum conversation' among
the whole group, not a 'personal performance' by a few. No matter how great a drum-
mer you are, this drum circle is not an invitation for you to take over, show off, or have
an attitude that the rest of us are lucky just to be able to drum along with you (if we can).
If showboating is your idea of a fun evening of drumming, then this is not the right drum
circle for you.
(e) Please allow a variety of rhythms, speeds, & loudnesses through the night; slow sen-
sual rhythms, with lots of 'empty space', are just as beautiful as hard, fast, loud stuff.
Many of our beautiful dancers are requesting more slow, sensuous rhythms; let's honor
the goddesses! These slow rhythms - with 'empty space' - take more musical skill to
maintain. If you are not comfortable with these rhythms, or the kind of energy they re-
flect, please don't 'hijack' the rhythm and turn it into something fast, busy, and loud. In-
stead, please back off and just follow the group, or take a break from drumming. If only
fast, driving, packed rhythms are your idea of a fun evening of drumming, then this is
not the right drum circle for you.
(f) Please only play big, bass drums (or cowbells and other 'penetrating' instruments) loud-
ly if you can play ON the beat, not drag the tempo, can be sensitive to when to speed
us up or slow us down, and can physically maintain the beat you start for that whole num-
ber. Big drums lead the circle, and require skill, sensitivity/alertness, & physical strength
to play well.
(g) There will be community announcements at least twice during the evening, lasting for
around 5 minutes each time, during gaps between drum rhythms. When the event
coordinator asks for your attention, please cooperate by stopping your drumming and
talking, so that we can respectfully listen to each other. Anyone is welcome to make
announcements relating to drumming & dancing. If someone is announcing something
on a topic that is of no interest to you, please be polite - don't interrupt, don't make noise,
don't hassle the speaker.
(h) The park officially closes at midnight, but this is loosely enforced by the Lake Worth Po-
lice - sometimes earlier, sometimes later. When the police car announces that the park
is closed, please pack up and leave quickly, so that we continue to be welcome there.
(i) This event happens rain or shine; in case of rain, or if it gets too windy on the beach, we
drum/dance under the huge picnic shelter (pavilion) in the same park, 100 yds. west of
the beach - you drive past it on your left 100 yds. after you enter the park. It's well-pro-
tected by a hill from the ocean wind.
(j) Dancers of all styles and experience levels are warmly invited to improvise to the drum-
ming and even to request or start particular rhythms. Dancers: please remember that
it's much more inspiring for the drummers if you sometimes look at and interact with
them.
(k) Non-percussion instruments and vocals are welcome (we've had didjeradoos, violins,
flutes, guitars, singing bowls, saxaphones, melodicas, etc.), as long as you understand
that they are to accompany the drummers. You must complement the drum rhythms,
not attempt to lead, dominate, solo, etc. That is trickier than it might appear, and re-
quires soft, sensitive, cooperative, skillful playing or singing/chanting.
(l) The space inside the circle of drummers is reserved for dancers and fire-performers,
and for drummers to walk about unimpeded. Both for everyone's safety, and to respect
the dancers/performers/drummers, please don't sit inside the circle, and don't put blank-
ets, belongings, or sitting children inside the circle.
(m) Please step well outside the big circle of drummers to socialize/talk. Discussions held
inside the circle block the line of sight, discourage dancing, and make it harder for the
drummers to focus on the sounds of the other drummers.
(n) Remember, it can be chilly and/or windy on the beach during the cooler months - dress
accordingly.
To avoid the disasterous problems that other full Moon drum circles have experienced, and
at the request of many of our drummers and dancers to maintain our beautiful atmosphere,
we have published these event guidelines - to maintain a coherent and respectful ambiance.
We have already met with and obtained the cooperation of the Lake Worth police in enforc-
ing these guidelines. Anyone who (1) disregards these guidelines, or (2) ignores the re-
quests of the event coordinator, or (3) causes a public nuisance or disturbs the peace, will
be warned the first time. Repeat violations (or blatant first violations) will result in the police
being called without warning and in their removal of the violator from the drum circle. If
these guidelines, and the community attitude and values that they represent, don't match
your idea of a fun drum evening, please don't attend this event. Either start another, or find
an existing event, that more closely matches your values.

EVENT REPORT NEW!
Sent by the event's great organizer, Corey Crowley.
"Thank you to everyone who made last night's full Moon party on Peanut Island one of the
most memorable experiences I have had in a long time. My favorite part was when the girls
broke out in song with an unidentified but obviously talented guitar player. The long Aussie
tube (sounds aboriginal - someone help with the name) [didjeradoo] was also VERY cool.
The cool breeze, the boat, the full moon, the beautiful people ... there were just so many
amazing components to the night.
I apologize for changing the location at the last minute. I know lots of people waited on the
docks for a while and a few of you might have even gone home without any information. I
had an agreement to use the docks but was denied access at the last moment. The short
story is that we were able to make the adjustment and provide transportation. If you want
the long story...you can read on.
Long Story About the Ferry
There are lots of components to this operation - the facility, the boat, docking rights, etc. It
is needless to say, but I will say it anyway - I thought I had all of them covered. When I ar-
rived at the Riviera Beach Marina in the morning to pay my dock fee, I was met with a lot of
resistance. Apparently the marina ferry operator found out about what we were doing and
made a big stink about it. I thought the agreement I had made 10 days prior was good
enough - next time I will have a contract.
So, sensing that there was going to be a serious problem, I went to the slip owners and I
found someone that was willing to let me use their slip to pick up people and take them to
the island. Problem solved - I thought. After the first 2 trips, the dock master came and
then the police came. I knew I had a problem when all four policemen addressed the dock
master by name and asked him about his family. I fought with them for awhile. This is a
public marina and I wasn't using it for any other purpose than what people do every Sunday -
pick up people and go to Peanut Island. I guarantee that I was the only person in the past
5 years to have the police come and be harassed because of taking people to Peanut Island.
The point here is that there are business and political interests that don't want a ferry operat-
ing out of the marina and that is what they thought was happening.
Anyway, one of the policemen suggested using Phil Foster Park on Blue Heron and so we
made the change. Unfortunately, the policeman (probably the dock master's brother in law)
also asked the dock master if he wanted to give me a trespass - which he gladly agreed to
issue. The funny part about this is that we were having this argument at the north end of the
marina next the homeless people drug park and we had attracted quite an audience of home-
less druggies. (Go to the north end of the marina next to the park if you think I am being in-
sensitive to the homeless situation and absorb the visuals for yourself.) The four policemen,
of course, issued the trespass to me and not to the shirtless vagabonds that surrounded us.
I must admit that this is my first official trespass. I am a bit embarrassed that it has taken me
so long to get one. I guess I just wasn't working hard enough before :)
This is just our first party so there were going to be some bumps. I like a fight and so I will
take this one to the next level on Monday with the city of Riviera Beach, the police, and the
marina. I have some powerful people on our side so it should be interesting. I'll let you know
when the movie comes out.
Thank you for your time, effort, and patience while we create something extraordinary for the
people of Palm Beach County."
With regards,
Corey Crowley

PHILOSOPHY
"People of all life-affirming spiritual and philosophical paths are invited to come together un-
der the beautiful canopy of the sky, in a preserved 'native Florida coastal habitat'. It's an
opportunity to align our thoughts and energies with our own core of being, with the seasonal
shifts on our planet (Earth), with the energy effects of our star (the Sun), and with the powers
of the universe that form all things (which you may call God/Goddess, Spirit, Nature, laws of
evolution, etc.). The Tequesta (tuh-kes-tuh) Drum Circle is named after one of the ancient
tribes who inhabited lands around SE Florida prior to European and Seminole arrival - and
gives us an opportunity to remember that legacy.
This is a family-oriented celebration for those who hold the importance of our relationship to
our home planet, the Earth. Come be a part of the celebration, look up into the night sky,
breathe, and remember our intrinsic connection to both planet and universe.
Every 90 days or so our planet transits a key point on its journey around our parent Star (the
Sun) which shifts the balance of light entering into our world. This light continually feeds a
tremendously complex array of living systems that have co-evolved for billions of years. The
shift creates a cascading ebb and flow of cycles in each hemisphere creating what we know
as Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall, and inspires us to observe these natural transits of our
planet as Sacred Days."

changes of season - the solstices and equinoxes), bringing together drummers and dan-
cers from five counties for one big unified celebration. Don't miss it! You don't have to be
a good dancer or drummer - everyone is lovingly welcomed and appreciated. You can drum
(or play any percussion gadget that you have), dance, or just watch and socialize.

Speaker: Randy 'Atu' Robinson, president of the Ft. Lauderdale Drum Circle, Coordina-
tor of Americas East Coast Drum Circle, teacher of beginner's djembe lessons, leader
of the "Original Ft. Lauderdale Drum Circle" [editor's note: Randy's drum circle began
in 2007; drum circles have been going on in Ft. Lauderdale for decades, with some
even called 'Ft. Lauderdale Drum Circle', so Randy's use of the word 'original' is highly
misleading and self-aggrandizing].
Randy says: "A drum circle is a group of people coming together to create in-the-moment
music using hand drums and percussion instruments. A drum circle is not a percussion
ensemble performing a prepared piece of music or a drumming class led by a teacher, but
it is a group of drummers creating music that has never been played before."
"Randy will discuss how a drum circle can be used to focus praise and worship toward our
Lord Jesus Christ during our gathering this month."

to heal the Earth.
6:45pm
We will meet at the end of Palmetto Park Rd, on the beach, just east of A1A, in Boca
Raton FL
7:00pm exactly
We will recite the Earthdance Prayer and together resonate a single sound to heal the
Earth. The idea is that if everyone on the earth produces this sound at the same time,
(4pm PDT) we can bring change to the Earth through human voice and our love.
Music on the beach to follow.
This is one of many international events whose mission is to increase awareness of
peace and the environment through dance and music and to utter a single sound to-
gether to vibrate and heal the Earth.

F. WHAT ARE YOUR DRUMMING/DANCING OPPORTUNITIES?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This month there at least 68 opportunities to drum/dance in our SE Florida area -
from Miami-Dade (11 events), through Broward (30 events), Palm Beach (23 events),
and Martin (4 events) Counties!
• Some repeat weekly, or monthly, or on the full or new Moons, and some are special one-time
events
• Some are outdoors (parks, beaches, backyards...) and some are indoors (homes, businesses,
churches, bars, arenas...)
• Some are in the daytime and some are at night
• Some are hidden away & private and some are public & almost exhibitionistic
• Some are eclectic world-beat improv/jam sessions and some focus on more repetitive trance-
drumming, or on drumming from just one cultural tradition (African, Latin, Middle-Eastern,
Native American, etc.)
• Some have bonfires, some have candles, some have the Sun or the Moon
• Some have entertainers (fire-twirlers, fire-breathers, poi-spinners, etc.)
• Some are strongly-led, some are mildly guided, and some are leaderless
• Some are flavored by a particular spiritual tradition (Pagan, Christian, Native American, Yogic/
Vedic, etc.) and some are free of any mention of any beliefs (politics, religion, etc.)
• Most are clothed, but one weekly drum circle is hosted by a clothing-optional (nudist) community
• Some have lessons before-hand and some don't
• Some attract only a handful of participants and some draw 100 or even 400+ drummers/dancers!
Try out a few drum circles and find the style(s) and vibes that you enjoy.
