LARGEST DRUMMING EVENT IN WORLD HISTORY!

WHAT?
THE BIG BEAT
The sound of drums will rumble across
North America on Sunday as 9 Five-
Star Member drum shops launch 'THE BIG BEAT' to bring together the lar-
gest gathering of drummers ever assembled to celebrate the joy of drumming
and to raise money to resurrect music programs in our school systems for our
children. Not only will each location try to break the Guinness World Record
for the most drummers playing the same beat at one time (previously set by
Donn Bennett Drum Studio with 533 drummers), but the participants WILL set
a record for drummers in all cities playing simultaneously (at 5:45pm)!
Drum rhythms are one of the most powerful forces on Earth! Rhythm
(vibration) is the essence of all matter & energy; rhythm is in the cycles
of nature, our biorhythms, our in and out breath, our brain waves, our
heartbeat...
WHY?
We are very concerned about the school music budget cuts. Every year, mu-
sic programs are being cut back or out completely! We need ALL the drum-
mers of SE Florida to come together with drummers from all over North Amer-
ica, to raise money to replace these cutbacks and put music back into their
lives. THE BIG BEAT events will benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation
(MHOF). It was founded in 1996, and donates new and refurbished musical
instruments to under-served schools, community music programs, and indivi-
dual students nationwide, to give youngsters the many benefits of music edu-
cation. Music helps kids to be better students and inspires creativity and ex-
pression. Since its inception, MHOF programs have benefited more than
500,000 students and have enabled hundreds of dedicated teachers to pro-
vide a better learning experience in school. MHOF was chosen after much
research. All proceeds collected at our SE Florida event will go directly to
OUR LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS in SE Florida!
As drummers, we can directly impact on the arts in our schools, by
coming together to save the music for our children!
WHO'S SPONSORING THIS?
RESURRECTION DRUMS of Hollywood Florida is a proud member of the Five-
Star Network! The Five-Star Drum Shops group is a non-profit organization
of 37 independently-owned specialty percussion stores in North America
that are dedicated to advancing the art and science of drumming.
HELD WHERE?
Arts Park, Hollywood FL (the circle at US 1 and Hollywood Blvd.)
The City of Hollywood has donated this park for a day of drumming!
See website for driving directions, parking, etc.
COST?
• Registration fee: $10 (All goes to the charity!) ensures a space under the
tent for drum sets. Others free.
• Like a walk-a-thon, we're asking each participant to go out and get pledges
for performing in this event! Major prizes for the top fund raisers!
WHO SHOULD COME?
• Single drum players (djembe, doumbek, conga, etc.): you can just show up
with your drum!
• Players of drum sets and other large percussion set-ups:
Sign up at www.rezdrums.com (go to THE BIG BEAT, located in the news
section). 6'x6' space in tented area provided for those who pre-register.
Free goodie bags filled with drum gear to the first 200 drummers to sign up!
• Plus every friend/fan of drumming - dancers of all persuasions, spectators...

• 6 high school drum lines
• Many local drum circle drummers
OTHER ATTRACTIONS
• Latin percussion performances
• Taiko (Japanese drumming) demonstration
• Performances by some of SE Florida's best local groups and drummers

• Community drum circle facilitated by Willie Stewart from "Third World"

plus Jody Hill: KC and the Sunshine Band
4:45pm - Latin All-Star jam featuring Richie Bravo & Hector "Pocho" Neciosup
5:10pm - Derek Roddy
5:30pm - THE BIG BEAT rehearsal
5:45pm - THE BIG BEAT! World-record group drumming!
6:00pm - raffle drawing & giveaways
6:30pm - drum show
PRIZES
OVER $15,000 in giveaway prizes from every major drum manufacturer!
The top pledge raisers in each BIG BEAT location will be awarded prizes do-
nated by the biggest names in the drum industry.
There also will be a raffle at each location, with the national winner getting an
authentic Ringo Starr autograph on a replica Beatles logo bass drum head!
Prizes will also be awarded for various categories of drum set presentation.
