Please note - some significant
changes to our past invitations:
1. We're starting at 7pm (not 8pm). 2. We're having a DJ'd partner dance from 7-9pm in the 'yoga room'. During those hours, for those not wanting to dance, there's also a potluck dinner, musical performances, socializing, readings, early drumming, etc. For the dance: no partner need- ed. Please bring comfortable dancing shoes [not recommended are: (1) sandals & open- back shoes - your feet can slip out & you could hurt yourself; (2) gripping rubber soles - you'll try to spin but your shoe will resist & you'll hurt yourself]. 3. We're asking everyone for $5 to cover expenses. 4 Great Events Rolled Into One! The 1st 30 cars to arrive should park in our front & back yards (on the grass). If you know you're staying late, please pull forward & let someone park behind you. Please do not park on our paved driveway - leave that free for people to get on and off the grass (parking spaces). 2. After our yard is full, please park only on the east (right) side of Park Ln. - NOT blocking anyone's driveway (look carefully). First, drop off heavy objects (drums, food, etc.) in our driveway and then park down the street. 3. Once cars are parked a full block down Park Ln., we suggest that you park on the next street to the east of us - Concord Ave. Park on the (left) west side of Con- cord, on the grassy shoulder next to the street. You'll have a shorter walk than if you'd parked far down our street (Park Ln.), and your car will be safer (closer to a busy street, better lighting). 4. Of course, when parking anywhere, be smart - don't leave valuables sitting in plain view - hide them. 5. Please don't pull into any neighbors' driveways or yards to turn around, espe- cially late at night when leaving. The activity, and bright lights, disturb and frighten them, and they complain to the City. To exit our neighborhood, don't turn around on Park Ln. - it's dark, narrow, and has deep drainage ditches along both side; just continue north on Park Ln. Two blocks down there's a street going left (west) to Haverhill Rd. (a main north/south road). DRESS Everything from casual to dress-up to fantasy is appropriate. For example, some women wear shorts, some wear dresses, some wear 'goddess-outfits', some wear belly-dance or other costumes. Dress in whatever makes you feel great & special! CHILDREN Children who are old enough to participate in an adult event are welcome. The event is "adult-focused" - meaning there are no special arrangements for kids (no play area, toys, child-care, etc.) and maybe not even other kids to 'hang out' with, so children should only come if they can enjoy the adult activities, fit in, and not need special attention or do things that would interfere with other guests' enjoyment of the event. We leave it up to parents to evaluate if their children would fit into & enjoy the atmosphere. For children over about 12, there is generally no problem (although it is the parent's respon- sibility to keep them away from any alcohol); for younger children please use your own good judgement. Younger children should definitely not be left to wander unaccompanied - due to the big crush of people, fire-performers swinging fire, alcohol (being served in moderation) etc. And children should not be allowed to play any rhythm instrument during the drum circle until they're old enough to listen to and play along with the group harmoniously (and on the beat!) rather than just making fun sounds as younger kids do. There will not be any 'adult' activities that would be considered inappropriate for children - but keep in mind that the energy around a bonfire drum circle can be both intense and very sensual (belly dancers, etc.). PHOTOGRAPHY Photography at this event is welcome, as long as you follow these guidelines: 1. If someone requests not to be photographed, please immediately honor their request. 2. Be discrete with flash photography around the drum circle - don't disrupt the atmosphere. 3. If you plan to post photos to the internet, please contact your hosts to discuss what info to include (or not) about the party and the individuals photographed. 4. As a courtesy, please e-mail copies of your better photos, full-sized, to your hosts with permission to use them for publicity.
