PALM BEACH & ST. LUCIE COUNTIES
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Palm Beach County Full Moon Drum Circle
(Lake Worth Beach)
THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH • 8PM-MIDNIGHT
Held monthly on the night of the full Moon
Free (except for parking meters)
This is the original Palm Beach County Full Moon Drum
Circle; it's been going on for over a decade. Come be
part of the 'tribe' - tune in, connect, let the rhythm move
you. It's a community-building tradition!
We've been having 100-150 people show up. Recently we
had over a dozen fire-spinners - what a sight! This is won-
derful 'tribal' celebration, with drummers, dancers, fire-per-
formers, and quiet on-lookers. People remark that it's the
perfect confluence of the 5 elements - soft sand underfoot
(Earth/smell), gently-lapping ocean waves (water/taste), full
Moon overhead reflecting the Sun (fire/sight), soft ocean
breezes (air/touch), & enchanting rhythms (space/hearing).
This is sub-tropical South Florida at its finest. Please come
join us - don't miss this gathering!

1. Exit Lake Worth Rd. east
2. Eventually it turns into Lake Ave.
3. See 5-10 below
C. In every case:
5. Cross the Intercoastal Waterway going east
6. Cross A1A
7. Enter Barton Park & bear right (thE road makes a large
counter-clockwise circle)
8. Go all the way around the back, & just past the Ocean Pier
9. Park just north of the pier
10. Parking costs $1/hr. till midnight - pay at the central meters
& put the receipt on your dashboard. Parking tickets, al-
though not often handed out, do cost around $25.
POINTS SPECIFIC TO THIS DRUM CIRCLE:
(a) The park officially closes at midnight, but this is loosely en-
forced by the Lake Worth Police - sometimes earlier, some-
times later. When the police car announces that the park is
closed, please pack up & leave quickly, so that we continue
to be welcome there.
(b) This event happens rain or shine; in case of rain, or if it gets
too windy on the beach, we drum/dance under the huge pic-
nic shelter (pavilion) in the same park, 100 yds. west of the
beach - you drive past it on your left 100 yds. after you enter
the park. It's well-protected by a hill from the ocean wind.
(c) Remember, it can be chilly and/or windy on the beach dur-
ing the cooler months - dress accordingly.
(d) The rules of Lake Worth prohibit alcohol or drug use or pos-
session on the beach or in the park. For the good of the
drumming/dancing community, please don't jeapordize our
use of this unique location.
(e) Also, to maintain the mutually-respectful, harmonious,
community spirit of this drum circle, please drum close
to the other drummers; listen to and cooperate with what
others are playing; don't use the drum circle to show off,
grandstand, or solo; stop drumming when the bulk of the
group stops; allow a minute of silence between rhythms;
if you start a new rhythm, make sure it's significantly dif-
ferent from what's already been played that night; be aware
that it's not necessary to fill up every space in the rhythm
with sound - the empty spaces create the 'personality';
only play big drums or penetrating instruments (cow bells,
etc.) if you have a good sense of rhythm, persistance
enough to keep your part going thru the whole rhythm,
and don't have a tendency to drag the beat; listen quietly
during group announcements; keep your announcements
on topic - only drumming or dancing related events; respect
the traditions and leadership of the group; and look out for
the welfare of the group and the event.

Hollywood Beach Full Moon Drum Circle
THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH • 7:00-11:30PM
Held monthly near the full Moon night

"Due to the noise of the Hollywood Beach Bandshell, and advice
I received from a fellow drummer, I thought it would be a good
idea to move the full Moon circle further down the beach. The
management at Ocean's Eleven On The Beach was kind enough
to let us drum right across the boardwalk from their establish-
ment! They will also allow us to use their restrooms and park
in their lot for free. In return for their kindness, I would advise
at least purhasing a soda to show some love." - Kirsten
"Bring your children, any instrument, and good vibes! The
weather is going to be gorgeous, so let's drum, dance & jam
under the beautiful Moon!" - Kirsten

Chakra Cleansing Full Moon Drum Circle
(Used to be called Unity on the Bay - Full Moon Drum Circle)
THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH • 7:00-9:00PM
Held monthly on the night of the full Moon
$10 'love offering'
This drum circle began in April 2008.
"We meet in a church, have a spiritually-flavored drum circle,
and therefore have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol scene.
We create a safe space for all to enjoy. We know that drum-
ming on its own creates a healing, natural vibration, which
opens up the 7 chakrs, making them receptive to the healing
vibrational therapy administered by Jude and Carlos through
their use of Native American frame drums, shamanic-influenc-
ed medicinal drum beats, & fragrant herbs. We are successful
in cleansing blocking toxins by opening these 7 chakras. All
musical instruments are welcome, as are all rhythms for our
interactive healing musical experience. The vitality derived
from our vibrational therapy can be felt for up to 72 hours after
your first 2-hour experience. This is divinely powerful; don't
miss it!" Bring beach chairs or cushions to sit on.
Coordinated by:
Carlos Manuel Planas and Jude Byrne.

cayne Bay

Miami Beach Full Moon Drum Circle
THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH
AFTER 9:00PM TILL AROUND 1:00AM
Held monthly on the night of the full Moon
Free
Held at:
"The public announcements for the Full Moon Eve & Full Moon
Night drum circles were stopped because the rave or wild beach
party atmosphere that had developed, including large numbers
of young people & alcohol/drugs, drew the attention of the local
authorities, and caused arrests and closing of some drum cir-
cles by the police." Because of this, for a while, the drum cir-
cles were not being so widely & publicly advertised. People
were getting in touch with each other directly and going out to
drum at various different places on Miami Beach on the full
Moon eve, the full Moon night, and even the new Moon night.
Now various public discussions are occuring again [see info
sources below], and 79th St. at Collins/A1A has become the
principle location.

Moonchine Full Moon Party (with Drum Circle)
THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH • 8:00PM ONWARD
Held monthly on the night of the full Moon
Free
Inside: sushi, drink specials, kareoke
Outside: drum circle around the fire on the back patio
Held at:
Moonchine Asian Bistro, 7100 Biscayne Blvd., Miami FL
One experienced drummer reported about his experience
in July 2008: "The Moonchine...was a little disappointing. We
got there around 8pm. There was no real space for drummers.
The 'fire-pit' was in a little outside alcove where the outside bar
was. There was room for maybe 5 or 6 drummers, and it was
obvious that the wait-staff would be barging through all the time
to fill their bar orders. And then, of course, there were the DJs
('nuff said). We had dinner (which was very good), but we didn't
even unpack our drums. Now, that said, the space was very
pleasant for dining, and had the potential to be good for a drum
jam (but maybe not around the 'fire pit')..." [There may have
been drumming later in the evening, but the reviewer left and
thus couldn't comment. Yet, no such reports have emerged in
the ensuing months. - Editor]
