Plus Michael's Birthday Party!

PLEASE COME CELEBRATE MICHAEL'S BIRTHDAY
No presents required - just your presence and joy

• Held at our home in West Palm Beach (directions below)

• This event is held the last Saturday of every month - mark
   your
calendar!  EXCEPT in December when it shifts a few
   days to NEW YEAR'S EVE.

SPECIAL AT THIS MONTH'S PARTY:

1. Michael's birthday celebration - plus others!

2. Special Guest: Henna artist Diana Spring
(See her info and photos at the end of this newsletter)

NOTE CHANGES TO OUR PAST INVITATIONS:

1. We start at 7pm (not 8pm as some listings still claim).

2. We have a DJ'd partner dance from 7-9pm in the 'yoga room'.
During those hours, for those not wanting to dance, there will
be all our regular activities: a potluck dinner, musical perfor-
mances, great conversation, card readings, healing exchang-
es on the massage table, perhaps some early drumming, etc.
Mini-dance lesson at 7:30pm - let Michael show you how
easy & fun these dances are!
No partner needed; please bring appropriate dance shoes
    (see comments below).

3. $5 admission to cover expenses.

4. Important NEW PARKING INSTRUCTIONS:
To keep the City & neighbors happy we made some changes!
PLEASE DON'T PARK ON OUR STREET (PARK LN).
Instead, park the 1st 30 cars on our property.
Then park on the next side street - 1/2 city block east of us.
Or park in the church parking lot - SE corner of Haverhill and
Belvedere Rd. - 1/2 city block west of us.
Each alternative is safe and well-lit and a 3-minute walk.

at midnight - and move the festivities inside.)

  Eastern, Native
American, World, Tribal ... start any rhythm
that you'd like the group to play

  tact dancers, trance-
dancers.  Enjoy a loving, appreciative
atmosphere in which to let the rhythms
move you!

PARKING

NEW PARKING INSTRUCTIONS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

1. 1st 30 cars - park in our front & back yards (on the grass).

If you know you're staying late, please pull forward & let
    someone park behind you.

Please do not park in either driveway - leave that free for
people to get in and out of the
parking spaces (on the grass).

2. After our yard is full, do not park on our street (Park Ln.)
The neighbors have been complaining to the City.  The street
is not wide enough for 2-way traffic when cars are parked on
the street.  To continue having the drum circle parties, we
promised the City the following parking changes:

3. First, drop off heavy objects (drums, food, etc.) - temporarily
pull into our front driveway (marked with "loading zone" signs).

4. Then move your car out of the loading zone & park:

    a. 1st - park on both the east & west sides of Concord (the
next street east of Park Ln., runs north off Belvedere Rd.)
        This area holds 30 cars.

    b. 2nd - park on the south side of Charlotte (the 1st street
        intersecting Concord).
Don't park in front of the homes on
the north side.  This area holds 22 cars.

    c. On both of these streets -
       • Park on wide grass shoulders - not on the pavement.
That way you won't impede 2-way traffic.
       • Adjacent to the grass shoulders there are no homes to be
bothered.  Don't park in front of any homes.
       • Angle park (pull in nose first) - do not parallel park.
       • It's a 3-minute walk to our home - shorter than parking
way down our street (Park Ln.) as many people often had
to.  Plus the walk is safe & well-lit.

    d. When both those streets are full, park in the parking lot
        of the Abundant Life Church
on the SE corner of Belve-
        dere Rd. and Haverhill Rd.
, 1/2 city block west of our
street (Park Ln.), with its entrance on Belvedere Rd.

Please honor their space - leave no trash, make no noise
        coming or leaving.

5. Of course, when parking anywhere, be smart - don't leave
    valuables sitting in plain view
-
hide them.

6. Please don't pull into any neighbors' driveways or yards
    to turn around, espe
cially late at night when leaving.  The
activity, and bright lights, disturb and frighten
them, and they
    complain to the City.

DRESS

Everything from casual to dress-up to fantasy is appropriate.
For example, some
women wear shorts, some wear dresses,
some wear 'goddess-outfits' or fantasy-wear, some wear
belly-
dance or other costumes.  Dress in whatever makes you feel
great & special!

CHILDREN

Children who are old enough to participate in an adult event are
welcome.
The event is "adult-focused" - meaning there are no
special arrangements for kids (no play area, toys, child-care,
etc.) and maybe not even other kids to 'hang out' with, so child-
ren should only come if they can enjoy the adult activities, fit in,
and not need special attention nor do things that would interfere
with other guests' enjoyment of the event.

We leave it up to parents to evaluate if their children would fit
into and enjoy the atmosphere.  For children over about 12,
there is generally no problem (although it is the parent's respon-
sibility to keep them away from any alcohol); for younger chil-
dren please use your own good judgment.   Younger children
should definitely not be left to wander unaccompanied - due to
the big crush of people, fire-performers swinging fire, etc.  And
children should not be allowed to play any rhythm instrument
during the drum circle until they are old enough to listen to and
play along with the group harmoniously (and on the beat!) ra
rather than just making fun sounds as younger kids do.

There will not be any 'adult' activities that would be considered
inappropriate for children - but keep in mind that the energy
around a bonfire drum circle can be both intense and very sen-
sual (belly dancers, etc.).

PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is welcome, as long as you follow these guidelines:
1. If someone requests not to be photographed, please imme-
    diately honor their request.
2. Be discrete with flash photos around the drum circle - don't
    disrupt the atmosphere.
3. If you plan to post photos to the internet, please contact us
(your hosts) to discuss what info to include (or not) about
the party and the individuals photographed.
4. As a courtesy please e-mail copies of your better photos, full-
full-sized, to us (your hosts) with permission for us to use
    them for publicity.

SPECIAL GUEST THIS MONTH

HENNA BODY ART BY DIANA SPRING

About the Artist
Diana Spring is a professional henna artist who is well-versed in Indo-Arabic
style, Mumbai style, Moroccan style, Modern, tattoo flash, & intricate Indian
bridal style.  She can mix & match components of different designs to come
up with artwork that is unique and suited to you.  Diana also offers custom
henna art on natural skin drum heads.  In addition, she's a local belly dancer
noted for dancing with finger cymbals and she's a chandler (candlemaker)
who makes her own soy and palm wax candles in an effort to support the
“green” lifestyle.

About Henna
Henna is a shrub that grows in the arid regions of the Middle East, North
Africa, and Asia.  For millennia, various peoples indigenous to these areas
have used the dried crushed leaves from the henna shrub mixed with an
acidic component to stain the skin for beautification and to mark life events
like birth and marriage.  Diana makes her own henna paste from imported
henna powder that she mixes with lemon juice, sugar, and essential oils.
The dark green paste is applied free-hand to the skin and should remain
on the skin for at least 4 hours and 6 hours if possible.  When the dark dried
paste is removed, an orange stain is left on the skin which darkens over the
next day to brown.  Designs usually last 1-3 weeks depending on the amount
of time the henna is left on the skin and the part of the body being hennaed.

Payment
If you choose to have henna work done, you pay the artist directly.  She
will have a selection of beautiful designs, each marked with it's cost.
