*** TOMORROW - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6TH - 8PM - $7 ***
SPEAK UP! - A BENEFIT TO SUPPORT FREE SPEECH
Drumming, 5 bands, speakers, poets, raffles
"This is going to be a really important event, a very conscious evening
of music, drumming, and education. And I would truly love to let all of
the beautiful drummers know about it so they can come out and drum...to
be a part of it. We are throwing this benefit to gather together in
solidarity through music and drumming, to raise awareness, to empower
people to speak up for their rights, and to support people who do. The
great philosopher Voltaire once said, "I disapprove of what you say, but
I will defend to the death your right to say it." And that's really what
it's all about: the RIGHT to say it. From the controversial Patriot Act,
Miami demonstrations against the FTAA, the infiltration of peace acti-
vists, the direct arrest and excessive prosecution of environmental and
animal activists, to the suppression of scientific data through intimi-
dation and fear, our civil liberties are quickly being eroded. It is time
to stand together, time to speak up, in support of our democratic rights
to free speech and assembly."
Speakers: ACLU, Greenpeace, FLPSN, Hometown Democracy
Performers: Crazy Fingers w/ Jeff Lloyd from Heavy Pets, Fourth Dimension,
Ana Kanpa, Teri Catlin, Joel DaSilva from Hep Cat Boo Daddies, Xavier Hawk,
Alonso the poet
Drumming: all night! - beginning at 8pm, led by the Drumdok.
Held at: Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Ft. Lauderdale, 954-564-1074
Sponsored by Rattle the Cage Productions (a registered 501(c)3 non-profit
org.), and FLPSN, an all-volunteer grassroots collective striving to pro-
tect unjustly targeted activists from the harsh reality of government
persecution.
All proceeds are going to the SHAC7 SUPPORT FUND, http://www.Shac7.com
All Artists are donating their performances to this cause.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
22nd St. on the full moon night was the unified location for a while, but
it was dispersed a couple of times by the police due to rowdiness (youngsters,
alcohol/drug use), so some drummers broke away and moved to 75th St. until
that also got too crazy (and it's also too close to hotels and apartments).
So the good drummers moved on to 85th St. on the full moon eve (the night
before the full moon) to "hide" from all the partiers. When the parking
lot at 75th St. was turned into a staging area for hurricane repairs in
late 2005, everyone moved to 85th St. on the full moon night. Once the
parking lot at 75th was cleared, and the situation at 22nd St. cooled off,
some drummers started congregating at all three locations on the full moon
night - but currently most of the action is at either 85th St. or 22nd St.
These days, the problem of youngsters/alcohol/drugs/rowdiness gets worse
when the full moon drum circle falls on a weekend night (Friday or Saturday).
