MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
The background story (according to local drummers):
22nd St. on the full moon night was the unified location for a while, but
it was dispersed a couple of times by the police due to rowdiness (youngsters,
alcohol/drug use), so some drummers broke away and moved to 75th St. until
that also got too crazy (and it's also too close to hotels and apartments).
So the good drummers moved on to 85th St. on the full moon eve (the night
before the full moon) to "hide" from all the partiers. When the parking
lot at 75th St. was turned into a staging area for hurricane repairs in
late 2005, everyone moved to 85th St. on the full moon night. Once the
parking lot at 75th was cleared, and the situation at 22nd St. cooled off,
some drummers started congregating at all three locations on the full moon
night - but currently most of the action is at either 85th St. or 22nd St.
These days, the problem of youngsters/alcohol/drugs/rowdiness gets worse
when the full moon drum circle falls on a weekend night (Friday or Saturday).
*** TODAY - WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3RD ***
Full Moon Drum Circle - Miami Beach - Miami-Dade County
Monthly on the night of the full moon, in 2 different locations, each just
east of Collins Ave. (A1A), on the beach, Miami Beach FL.
Free (except for possible parking costs)
Info: Mark R. Richards <bloodthump@...>
Locations:
1) 85th St., starts between 9:00 and 10:00pm weekends (weeknights a little
earlier) - and can continue till very late (around 2-3am).
2) 22nd St., starts around 8:30 or 9:00pm - continues till midnight, be
sure to feed the parking meters. When this one ends, some people migrate
up to 85th St. for the bigger circle there.
[Whether people are still gathering at 22nd St., or whether they've all
congealed back to 85th St., is unclear. - editor]
