Dear Drummers and Dancers,
We're continuing the new format for the Drum Circle Newsletter - sending
out three separate issues - one for Miami-Dade County, one for Broward
County, and one for Palm Beach (and Martin) Counties. The feedback we
got was 10 to 1 in favor of the new format! Enjoy...

--- SPECIAL DRUM CIRCLE - OF INTEREST TO ALL THREE COUNTIES ---
*** NEXT ONE WILL BE AROUND MARCH 22ND ***
Tequesta Drum Circle (around a huge bonfire!)
Every Solstice & Equinox - the Start of Each Season, 6pm till midnight
Held at: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd., Ft.
Lauderdale FL
* $5 entrance fee goes toward event costs (insurance, hiring the required
park rangers for the night, etc.) - any money remaining will be donated
to the citizen support organization Friends of Birch State Park, Inc.
* "People of all life-affirming spiritual and philosophical paths are in-
vited to come together under the beautiful canopy of the sky, in a
preserved 'native Florida coastal habitat' It's an opportunity to
align our thoughts and energies with our own core of being, with the
seasonal shifts on our planet (Earth), with the energy effects of our
star (the Sun), and with the powers of the universe that form all
things (which you may call God/Goddess, Spirit, Nature, laws of evo-
lution, etc.). The Tequesta (tuh-kes-tuh) Drum Circle is named after
one of the ancient tribes who inhabited lands around SE Florida prior
to European and Seminole arrival - and gives us an opportunity to re-
member that legacy. Ceremonial dress is welcomed, but not required."
* Includes: a roaring bonfire; a big (optional) potluck feast - bring a
dish or drink that would be enough for yourself; an Earth-centered ri-
tual to welcome in the season (at about 10:30pm) along with a collec-
tive altar where you may place objects to be charged through the inten-
tions of the evening. Performers are very welcome (fire-dancers, belly
dancers, etc.).
* Editor's note: This is one of the biggest and best drum circles in our
area. It only happens four times each year (at the changes of season -
the solstices and equinoxes), bringing together drummers and dancers
from four counties for one big unified celebration. Don't miss it!
You don't have to be a good dancer or drummer - everyone is lovingly wel-
come and appreciated. You can drum (or play any percussion gadget that
you have), dance, or just watch and socialize.
* Info: Moon Path Circle, Inc., http://moonpathcircle.org/index.htm,

*** WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3RD ***
The Crystal Garden - Full Moon Drum Circle
Held as close to the full moon as possible while avoiding Sundays, 7-9pm
if it's a Friday or Saturday, 7:30-9:30pm other nights, $18 per person.
Held at: The Crystal Garden Book & Gift Store, 2610 N. Federal Hwy. (3
blocks north of Gateway Blvd.), Boynton Beach FL
Facilitated by Margaret Ann Lembo. Please call or e-mail to register
in advance so she can plan for what size group will be coming. Bring
your drum(s); or use the store's. "Experience sitting in circle in a
sacred way. Using sacred smudge blend to call in the directions, we
will clear away negative energy and thought forms. Drum away what ails
and annoys you. Drum in love, light, and well-being to replace it all!
To complete the evening, you will have an opportunity to experience a
meditative journey into yourself, known as shamanic journeying, where
you'll be guided into a deep state of consciousness to have an encount-
er with a guide, power animal, or to find an answer to your questions."
Special note: The room does get smoky from the smudge blend at the be-
ginning."

*** SATURDAY, JANUARY 13TH ***
Unity Drum and Dance Circle
2nd Saturday of each month, 7-10pm, $10 suggested donation
Held at: Unity of the Palm Beaches, Fellowship Hall, 1957 S. Flagler Dr.,
West Palm Beach FL
(1/2 mile south of Okeechobee Blvd. on the west side of Flagler Dr.)
Be a part of creating unity and peace, one heartbeat at a time.
Please bring your drums and dancing feet, positive vibrations, food,
non-alcoholic drinks.
"To make beautiful music together, all we have to do is bring to the
circle whatever rhythmical expertise we have to offer, along with the
excitement of sharing it with other people. The quality of the music
produced in an event like this is not based on the rhythmical expertise
of the players, but on the quality of their relationship with the other
people in the circle. The result is those magical musical moments
where one powerful voice is created out of the many. In those moments,
the players stop worrying about keeping time because time, as they know
it, has stopped. In it's place is a living breathing entity, express-
ing timeless joy, passion and release through the power of rhythm. That
is the beauty of a community drum circle." - Arthur Hull
