Paralounge Drum Gathering in Florida

Held at: Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park, Live Oak FL

Purpose: to teach unity and fellowship; to understand primitive instru-
ments and their cultures; to entertain, educate, and unify the many
drum circle communities in the SE U.S. Held twice a year - April and
September. Includes facilitated drum circles around a roaring fire,
beginning around 9:30pm and lasting all through the night!

Workshops: Yoga, African Dance, African rhythm, African folk tales,
didgeridoo (novice and advanced), fire dance rhythms, healing drum
therapy. Held all day and early evening.

Info: http://www.paralounge.net

Camp or rent a "cabin" (an RV, actually). It's a family event. One
participant (Mark Richards) reported: "I saw no use of illegal sub-
stances and very little alchohol consumption. Dogs, however, are not
welcome at the event and must be restricted to the campsite area,
since a djembe can look a lot like a fire hydrant to a dog."

"Anyone interested in traveling there as a group - maybe rent a van
or something - please call Mark Richards in Miami at 786-316-2178.
His plan is to leave Friday morning and return very, very late Sunday
night."

vited to come together under the beautiful canopy of the sky, in a
preserved 'native Florida coastal habitat' It's an opportunity to
align our thoughts and energies with our own core of being, with the
seasonal shifts on our planet (Earth), with the energy effects of our
star (the Sun), and with the powers of the universe that form all
things (which you may call God/Goddess, Spirit, Nature, laws of evo-
lution, etc.). The Tequesta (tuh-kes-tuh) Drum Circle is named after
one of the ancient tribes who inhabited lands around SE Florida prior
to European and Seminole arrival - and gives us an opportunity to re-
member that legacy. Ceremonial dress is welcomed, but not required."

* Includes: a roaring bonfire; a big (optional) potluck feast - bring a
dish or drink that would be enough for yourself; an Earth-centered ri-
tual to welcome in the season (at about 10:30pm) along with a collec-

you have), dance, or just watch and socialize.

Unity Drum and Dance Circle

2nd Saturday of each month, 7-10pm, $10 suggested donation
(2007: Feb 10th, March 10th)

Held at: Unity of the Palm Beaches, Fellowship Hall, 1957 S. Flagler Dr.,
West Palm Beach FL
(1/2 mile south of Okeechobee Blvd. on the west side of Flagler Dr.)

Be a part of creating unity and peace, one heartbeat at a time.
Please bring your drums and dancing feet, positive vibrations, food,
non-alcoholic drinks.

"To make beautiful music together, all we have to do is bring to the
circle whatever rhythmical expertise we have to offer, along with the
excitement of sharing it with other people. The quality of the music
produced in an event like this is not based on the rhythmical expertise
of the players, but on the quality of their relationship with the other
people in the circle. The result is those magical musical moments
where one powerful voice is created out of the many. In those moments,
the players stop worrying about keeping time because time, as they know
it, has stopped. In it's place is a living breathing entity, express-
ing timeless joy, passion and release through the power of rhythm. That
is the beauty of a community drum circle." - Arthur Hull

Rhythms of the World - Drumming Class - by Michael Moses

Four hours of instruction: $40 per person

"Rhythm is the carrier of life – get the beat! Feel the rhythm of life
and spirit! The voice and the power of rhythm are humanity's oldest form
of creative expression. Used for healing, for ceremony, for party, and
for prayer for thousands of years. We will cover rhythms from all over
the world, and show how they inter-relate - through instruction, pointers,
and cross cultural inspiration. So, dive in - bring your favorite drum,
your passion, and a stool (if you have one). Extra drums will be avail-
able as well. And remember: It's not the impressive sound you make when
your hand hits the drum head, but rather - who you are when your hand is
in the air."

Led by master percussionist Michael Moses, who can be heard on over a
dozen internationally released CDs, including the 2003, Grammy nominated
Red Moon. His credits include composing music for H.H. the Dalai Lama's
Nobel Peace Prize announcement in 1989. He has performed and taught with
the late Baba Olatunji for eight years, and was recently asked to lead a
trio of drummers for a private Trance Dance for Sting and his family. He
has accompanied master dance classes and culturally diverse dance compan-
ies from around the world. Michael is currently living and teaching in
South Florida, and continues to perform, record, and facilitate drum cir-
cles for beginners as well as aspiring and more seasoned practitioners.
