Island Inhabitants,

Here are a couple of Clarifications regarding the election of the club Board of Directors:

1.  According to the election guidelines, those who want to run must nominate themselves.  For those of you who want to nominate someone, you just need to nudge that person into nominating him/herself.

2.  Administrative Staff Members as of 10/15 (a new administrative staff member is not eligible to vote for 60 days according to the club by-laws) will elect the Board per the election guidelines.  This is the most important requirement of the Administrative Staff.

Again, if you have any questions or need further clarification, let me know.

Island Inhabitants,

Per the club by-laws, six director positions are up for annual election.  The Island Bwana has a 3-yr term so y'all will have to put up with me for one more year.  The six positions are as follows:

Vice President (Island First Mate)
Treasurer (Island Purser)
Secretary (Island Jungle Drummer)
Social Director (Island Bartender)
Membership Director (Island Population Control)
Charity Director (Island Charity Bwana)

Nominations for these 6 positions are now open.  You can nominate yourself or any member in good standing of St MinneSomePlace for any of these positions.  Nominations must be in by December 15. There is only one other requirement.  Immediate Family members cannot hold concurrent director positions.

Below is the procedure which we will follow for the election:

St MinneSomePlace in Paradise

Parrot Head Club, Inc.

Election Guidelines

10.01.09

In accordance with the established By-laws of St. MinneSomePlace,

the following election guidelines will be followed:

I.          PROCEDURE

A.        ANNOUNCEMENT

By December 1st, The St MinneSomePlace in Paradise Board of Directors (BOD) will call for volunteer nominees.  This call will be made to the entire club membership.  A nominee must be a member in good standing as recognized by the Directors.

B.        NOMINATION

All volunteers must announce their own nominations by December 15th via email to the BOD.

C.        BALLOT

By December 30th, the Elections Officer will e-mail the ballot to the Administrative Staff.  This form will be standardized. It will list first the office and then the nominees in alphabetical order.

D.        VOTING

Ballots must be returned via email to the Elections Officer postmarked by January 15th.

E.         CAMPAIGNING

Campaigning rules are simple. A person running for office may actively campaign if they so desire. This may be done via personal email, US Postal mail and phone calls. No campaigning is allowed on any of the St MinneSomePlace forums (Yahoo Group, Email Boats, etc.). This includes campaigning by proxy.

If you are interested in one of these offices and would like to see a complete job description or if you have any question about the election guidelines, email me and I will get back to you very quickly.

Remember, the Board of Directors is responsible for all of the day-to-day operations of the club and is responsibile  for the club finances as well.  It is essential that we have a good board to keep St MinneSomePlace the great club that it is today.

Thank you and..........

Island Inhabitants....

Just a friendly reminder of a few things:

1.  Pre-registration closes next Sunday, 11/22.  Be sure to get your registration in so you, too, will receive the much coveted "stinkin' Button" commemorating our 16th Anniversary and 15th Membership appreciation PHlocking.  This is one of the longest continuously running PHlockings in the entire ParrotHead nation!  Many clubs have come and gone in that time, but St MinneSomePlace continues to be a shining light in Parrot Heads in Paradise!! Bring friends that are inclined to embrace the Island Lifestyle.  It's a great PHlocking to introduce them to our club.

You can register online at:   http://www.st-minnesomeplace.com/HAMA.html

Or you can mail a check for $15/member or $20/non-member to:

St MinneSomePlace
PO Box 390405
Edina, MN  55439-0405

2.  Reservations for the St MinneSomePlace Parrot Head block of rooms closes next Saturday, 11/21.  Be sure to talk to the LOCAL reservations desk when you make your reservation.  They are the ones that have the block information.

3.  We have a reservation at Channel 11 on Monday, December 14 for the 6 o'clock news to give them our collection of Toys for Tots.  We will be collecting unwrapped, but still in the original manufacturer's packaging, toys at HAMA.  Just think of the smiling faces that you make possible with your donation of toys. We will also be accepting monetary contributions if you want to leave the shopping to us.  We'd like to have as many of the PHlock, properly attired of course, at Channel 11 at 5:45, Monday, December 11.  More details to follow.

4.  We will be collecting empty printer cartridges, toner cartridges, and old cell phones at HAMA for a new animal shelter that is being built.  Bernice Botzet will have a box available for donations.  Remember, if you bring an old phone, please bring the charger if you have it.  We've done this last year at HAMA and this year at THR.

5.  Finally, we do listen.  Jambo will start later and play later this year.  This was the number one thing that we heard that could be corrected from HAMA 2008!

PHINS UP and see you Down Island at the Ramada Northwest Inn in exactly 3 weeks!

In case you haven't heard.....

A brand new studio album, named for an old colonial era train
station/hotel Jimmy ran across in Timbuktu, Mali during a trip to
the "Festival In The Desert," will feature Summerzcool, A Lot To
Drink About, Surfing In a Hurricane and 9 other new songs!

The title track has a strong West African influence and was
conceived during that same trip to Mali for the music festival. "It
was one of the best musical experiences of my life," said Jimmy. The
Buffet Hotel was the venue for the music scene that exploded in Mali
  after its independence in 1960.

In addition to the Coral Reefer Band, the album also includes guest
artists Sonny Landreth, Jake Shimabukuro, Cedric Burnside, Steve
"Lightnin'" Malcome and Toumani Diabate. Produced by Mike Utley and
Mac McAnally, the release also features a 24-page booklet with
lyrics, stories behind the song, and how Jimmy went to West Africa
looking for stories, and returned with an album. ".Stories are still
the things good songs are made of," said Jimmy.

  1. Nobody From Nowhere
  2. Wings
  3. Big Top
  4. Beautiful Swimmers
  5. Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose
  6. Summerzcool
  7. Rhumba Man
  8. We Learned To Be Cool From You
  9. Surfing In a Hurricane
  10. Life Short Call Now
  11. Buffet Hotel
  12. A Lot To Drink About

"Buffet Hotel" contains 12 great new songs, and also includes a
24-page booklet printed on recycled paper. The CD was influenced by
a trip to the West African "Festival In The Desert," a music event
that takes place annually near Timbuktu. It was in Bamako that Jimmy
discovered Buffet Hotel, an old colonial era train station/hotel,
which was where the music scene flourished in Mali in the 60's. This
collection includes a few songs that Jimmy premiered during the 2009
summer tour, including "Summerzcool" and "A Lot To Drink About."
Guest artists on the album include Sonny Landreth, Jake Shimabukuro,
Cedric Burnside, Steve "Lightnin'" Malcolm and Toumani Diabate, and
was produced by long-time Coral Reefers Mike Utley and Mac McAnally.

Hola Phellow PH's!

My name is "One Wild Wally", AKA Walter Tomlinson, of the Houston Parrot Head Club. I am running as a contestant for the Margaritaville Domino College Class Clown contest.   As you may know, this fundraiser is being held in conjunction with this year's Meeting of the Minds MOTM in Key West Fl. Every year a contest is held where our phellow PH's can vote ( read "donate") for a group of contestants running phor some fruitcakey position! This year it is "Class Clown"! The money raised goes to support selected charities associated with the Paradise Charitable Fund and the winner is announced at MOTM.   There was no way I could pass that up! Because, I am the quintessential class clown and I figured "Hey, why not!"   It would be great if you and your club members would support me in my quest! I have attached some campaign info and would love for you to visit my contestant page and make a donation!   http://www.margaritavillekeywest.com/index.php?page=motm09_walter   Please pass this along to your membership if you would!

TOP 10 REASONS TO VOTE PHOR WALLY!

#10 Thought "SAT" was the abbreviation for another night to party!

#9 Graduated 805 out of a class of 756!

#8 Thought "smokin' in the boy's room" was the school song!

#7 'Cause they won't let him in classes with the "NORMAL" kids!

#6 Can't remember what #6 is!

#5 Dropped out of Domino College because the "pizza delivery" sign wouldn't fit on his unicycle! #4 Thinks Jimmy Buffett IS the current President!

#3 Thought "higher" education meant roll another one!

#2 Won't even go there!

And the #1 reason to vote phor Wally is;

Because his therapist says he needs the positive reinforcement!

Thank you all and I hope to see you in Key West!

FOREST ACRES COLUMBIA, SC - A memorial service for Sally Norvell Slagsvol, 78, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009, at St. Martins-in-the-Field Episcopal Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Slagsvol, wife of the late Thomas Marvin Slagsvol, passed away Sept. 21, 2009, in Charleston. Born in Lakeland, Fla., she was a daughter of the late William and Jane Law Norvell. An avid traveler, her fondest memories were of times spent traveling throughout the Caribbean and Europe with her family. Her love for life was contagious. Island Inhabitants,

This Monday, September 28, is Chili's Annual 100% profit night for St Jude's Hospital and the fight against Childhood Cancer.  It would be the perfect night to try their new Triple Dipper Dinner or the Carne Asada Steak or ... well, whatever suits your palate!

Margaritaville ParrotHead of the Month (from early 2008), Trevor Vampran, is now 469 days Post-Bone Marrow Transplant and cancer-free.  It's institutions like Chili's (and Target and others) plus individual donors that have helped tremendously with his, and thousands of others, fight against this terrible disease and the complications that follow a transplant.  Trevor is back at home in South Louisiana but still has to make monthly treks to Memphis for monitoring and still has to be very careful with communicable diseases like the flu because of his weakened immune system.

Having a delicious meal at Chili's this Monday is just one small way we can all help in the fight against childhood cancer!

Lots happening in Vegas in October. It seems that a lot of Parrot Heads were counting on Jimmy's traditional Las Vegas October concert in Las Vegas. As we all know (and lament), this was not to be this year...

Many of you PH's with airfare booked and decent hotel rates are deciding to be in Vegas anyway. There are always lots to do in Vegas for us pirates, Margaritaville, Tommy Rockers and more.

The Las Vegas PH Club will be hosting a party at Tommy Rockers Saturday October 17 to benefit the "Foster Kids for Christmas", featuring Tommy Rocker & Conched Out.

A new player on the PH scene is the brand new Hooters Restaurant which is hosting a "Grand Opening" all weekend starting Friday October 16 thru Sunday October 18.

Here's a lineup for every PH at heart!

Friday October 16 -

8am-noon Shaun Eiferman

1pm-5pm Scotty Alexander

5:30pm-9:30pm Stars on the Water

9:30pm-11:30pm Coasters,Platters and Temptations with Early Clover

12am-4am Jimmy and the Parrots

Saturday October 17

 11am-3pm Stars on the Water

7pm-11pm Jimmy and the Parrots

12pm-4am Stars on the Water

Sunday October 18

18th 10am-2pm Mike Soli Band

3pm-7pm Stars on the Water

9pm-1am Dangerous Curves

This is an unbelievable lineup. If you have been to Migration or Last Man Standing you know what to expect.  The location, just minutes from the "strip!"

Hooters

7155 S. Rainbow Blvd Las Vegas 89118 702-260-9464*

This is a brand new Hooters built from the ground up by our friend Kim Tyler. Kim was our host for Migration and Last Man and knows how to throw a party. No cover, but raffle proceeds will help out the Retired Special Forces Assoc and the Foster Kids Xmas Party.

Drink specials, food specials and Hooters Girls!

I will see you there,

*note, this is a new Hooters location and not the Hooters Casino Hotel.

Island Inhabitants,

We will remember to bring our check for $1000, proceeds from Cajun Martinis & Afternoon Golf, this Saturday, 9/26, to the Memory Walk.  It's at Highland Park in Bloomington with registration and walking from 8:30 to 10:30 am.  We can pick a time and meet in the off-site parking lot if any of you would like to join us in the walk.  It should be around 60 degrees with a slight chance of showers.  We have parked at the 77th street lot in the past.  Here are the parking/shuttle details:

Parking: In order to make getting to the Memory Walk easier for everyone, shuttle service will again be available this year, which will replace parking at the walk site. Walkers can choose to park at two nearby locations: 1. 8500 Tower Ramp (8500 Normandale Lake Blvd., Bloomington) 2. Pentagon Park Surface Lots (77th St., between Hwy 100 and Parklawn Ave., Edina) - Shuttles will be provided from 8:15 AM - 12:30 PM - Parking at Hyland Park will ONLY be available for event-day volunteers, sponsors, large-group busses and those with disabilities.

I plan on being there about 9 a.m.

PHINS UP!

Island Inhabitants.....

Our bartender, Jon Iannazzo, had the LandShark distributor make a terrific Get Well Poster for Tim with a picture of the family at Alpine.  We had it at the BNB Bidness meeting Friday and Beach Bum Daze on Saturday and got signatures.  I took it to Tim and Heidi yesterday.  It was a big hit to say the least.

I'm attaching a picture and you can see that Tim still has that infectious smile... he's on his way back!!!!!
