REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR "DARE TO BE SQUARE WEST - 2009"!
December 12-14th, Seattle WA
Go to our registration page at: http://www.bubbaguitar.com/d2bs/register.html
We're cookin' up a fine weekend of workshops, dances, great food, and
parties to look forward to in the Emerald City this December! The
planning committee has been hard at work: this year, our program will
include more community-building workshops, intermediate calling
workshops, and square dance music workshops.
We're excited to have Bob Dalsemer on board as our main caller &
teacher this year - Bob is the dance instructor at The John C.Campbell
Folk School and Coordinator of Music and Dance Programs at The Folk
School. He has a wealth of knowledge to share with us!
Our music line-up is equally exciting! We've got The Tallboys on
board (with WB Reid guest fiddling). The Tallboys have been a driving
force in Seattle's dance community in the past few years with their
spectacular Monday Night Tractor Tavern Square Dance. Instrumental
in creating Seattle's dance community, we're excited that the The
Small Wonder Stringband (Sandy Bradley + Jere & Greg Canote) are
joining forces once again to bring you dance music that will knock
your socks clean off!
The full workshop calendar will be up on the website soon. As will
information on housing & carpools for any of you coming in from out of
town. A few full and partial worktrade positions are available to
those of you who are short on funds.

Glasses Lost at Stickerville (more than one of us lost glasses. I have found
the owner
of
the lost glasses I have in my possession).
Here's
the CORRECT description of the ones I lost:
Small,
sort of rectangular, dark reddish-colored, metal-frame glasses.
For
those of you wondering how I got home, I always pack a spare pair of glasses.
The real mystery
is
how I found my tent without glasses (I'm pretty sure it was my tent).
If
you have my glasses, please let me know at mkjackson at zipcon dot net. I'll be
gone to
fiddletunes
starting this weekend.
thanks,
Martha Jackson

Johnny, I lost my eyeglasses at Weiser, and told Becky. So when someone
found a pair of glasses, Becky sent them to Seattle with Rich Levine.
Trouble is, turns out they're not my glasses! Could you please post to the
Stickerville list for me, letting people know that I have a pair of lady's
purple plastic-frame glasses, kinda cat's eye shaped, that aren't mine. The
owner can contact me at mkjackson <at> zipcon.com. And perhaps someone
has
my glasses? Metal frames.

I am going to order the bins and have them placed near the
Shed/Office. I will ask that they be placed between Mon and Wed the
week before. That is between the 9th and the 11th. I am going to ask
that they be placed on the West side of the shed along the road. Is
there anyone who will be there very early and would like to be the
contact person/chief placement supervisor? I could pick a drop date
that suited you if you want. The job would probably entail buying some
flag tape and cordoning off an area so as not to allow campers to take
it and then be asked to move.
It might even mean asking someone to move. In any case if you can do
the job please write me at banjofiddleatgmaildotcom. Thanks, TonyG (no
they did not name gmail after me.)
Hi all,
Thanks for the input.
I have told Vicki that we do not want the shower trailer. Jimmy
Matheson and I went up there and took another look at it and could see
that it needs a lot of work. (We have photos if anyone is interested.)
The recycling sounds like a great plan and we should give it a try for
this year and see how it works out. Tony, you can give them my number
if they need a local contact. Setting the bins near the shed seems
good. We can make up a lot of signs to help get the word out to everyone.
Keep your thoughts and ideas coming!
Cheers,
Becky

Finally! I totally support this. Restricted hours sounds like a
great solution to living with the noise. I think the best spot would

If the recycler is that willing to bring bins, perhaps he would bring

the success of better and better recycling efforts during this event

No support for the old shower trailer from me. But I do like the idea
of a simple platform with trench drain for individual solar showers.
Perhaps we could provide the eco-friendly soap?

Keep in mind that anything we do has to be stored or secured for the
other 51 weeks of the year and must meet the local building and
sanitary codes. I suspect nothing short of a sewar hookup will do as
far as the latter is concerned. There is still a drought in the west
and I think that whatever we do should have some sort of metering
device to limit the use of valuable water that the city of Weiser may
well need more than us "summer people". Last year I used the H.S.
showers they worked fine and the money goes to a good cause. We are
only there for one week. Lets not make more work for ourselves.
Anything done must be maintained and managed by someone before during
and after the week. Before anyone gets ambitious they should be clear
about what part of the project do they want to volunteer for every
year. Remember most volunteer work is done by the same people year in
and year out in any sort of community. Are you prepared to be one of
those people? Are you ready to give up part of your fiddle week to run
Stickervilles growing list of project dreams? Tonyg
I love the idea of a simple shower drainage platform, to which we
would bring our own shower bags. Those who want real showers could
always trek to the high school, right?
I do wonder about privacy, though. How could we make it feel safe/secure?

The shower trailer cannot go where it used to be. We would have to have it moved out near where the port-a-potties go...down that 'lane' where the sewer and water is located. Then we would have to run power (from our shed) out to it. It is set up for propane water heating.

She is extremely interested in feedback from the wider WFOF/Stickerville community. We’ve had a fair amount of controversy and discussion about shower buildings over the last couple of years. I don’t think Becky is necessarily looking to rehash all of that, but she is looking both for comments and thoughts about buying the trailer (perhaps as an interim solution), as well as specific ideas about the shower situation that *don’t* have us buying the trailer.
My own thoughts:
Even though I personally didn’t mind the old trailer, there could be some relatively substantial costs to get it up and running, and keep it maintained, including:
* cost of propane and electricity
* cost to hook it up to sewer
* cost to maintain and secure it while we aren’t there
* the hassle of staffing during the festival week, etc
There are a lot of Weiser people who are not currently on Yahoo Stickerville Group; If you think you know someone in that category, please forward this message and ask them to join so we will have to maintain only one list...

Climb to the top of the charts! Play the word scramble challenge with star power. Play now!
I like Charmaine's idea. Those sun showers are awesome and can even be TOO hot sometimes... that said, I know that they had a similar situation at RockyGrass in Co. before they went big-time and built a huge bathroom/shower building. They had a platform with drainage, curtains and plumbing that came up for the water (they didn't use solar showers but it's the same general idea.) If there was a rack or rod to hang your own sun shower that would work just fine. The only problem they had at Rockygrass was when the wind would blow...well you get the picture...So, we might want to figure out that potential dilemma to keep the private parts...well, private.

Hi Johnny & Stickerville-folks, I say NEIGH on the shower-trailer. We're smart, innovative folks, and I think we could do better.
I have several ideas that might tickle your thinking bone:
Idea #1 - Solar shower station: set up a a couple of platforms on top of a large drainage area (french drain?), with curtains or walls for privacy, and have everyone bring their own personal solar shower bag - there's plenty of hot sun at Weiser to heat these things up! http://www.rei.com/product/752797
Anyhow, idea #1 is my favorite, it's also ecofriendly, the most inexpensive, and the most low-tech - I'm all about low-tech camp-outs!!

Climb to the top of the charts! Play the word scramble challenge with star power. Play now!
Hi Johnny & Stickerville-folks,
I say NEIGH on the shower-trailer. We're smart, innovative folks, and
I think we could do better.
I have several ideas that might tickle your thinking bone:
Idea #1 - Solar shower station:
set up a a couple of platforms on top of a large drainage area (french
drain?), with curtains or walls for privacy, and have everyone bring
their own personal solar shower bag - there's plenty of hot sun at
Weiser to heat these things up! http://www.rei.com/product/752797
Idea #2 - Homemade Permanent Solar Shower:
This might be complicated, as most of the plans I've seen are for
maybe 2-4 people to use at a time, not a whole camp.

Idea #3 - Commercially-made Solar Shower:
these are neat, but also post the problems of how do we secure them
while we're not at stickerville, how much maintainence, etc.

Anyhow, idea #1 is my favorite, it's also ecofriendly, the most
inexpensive, and the most low-tech - I'm all about low-tech camp-outs!!

Johnny here, passing on some news from Becky: Vicki recently
contacted her to offer us the old shower trailer building. She is asking $2000.
Without of course making any commitment, Becky plans to go
check it out, take some pictures (which I will post), and generally give due
diligence to the offer.
She is extremely interested in feedback from the wider WFOF/Stickerville
community. We’ve had a fair amount of controversy and discussion about shower
buildings over the last couple of years. I don’t think Becky is necessarily
looking to rehash all of that, but she is looking both for comments and
thoughts about buying the trailer (perhaps as an interim solution), as well as specific
ideas about the shower situation that *don’t*
have us buying the trailer.
My own thoughts:
Even though I personally didn’t mind the old trailer, there
could be some relatively substantial costs to get it up and running, and keep
it maintained, including:
* cost of propane and electricity
* cost to hook it up to sewer
* cost to maintain and secure it while we aren’t there
* the hassle of staffing during the festival week, etc

Hey guys,
Check out the yahoo photo album I started.
"Insects in Stickerville"
Can somebody identify those mound builders? Those fellas built that in
one week.
Cheers,
Becky
Hey Everybody!
It's almost time to pack up that camping gear and your instruments and
get over here! It all starts on August 10th and continues on until
the 19th. It's all jammin' and hangin' out with little scheduled
except for a pig roast/potlick and a dance or two. For more info
about the Centralia Campout, go to http://www.centraliacampout.com or
you call me at 360-807-8461 or email me at ray@...
See you there! Ray
Spring has sprung in Weiser! The grass and weeds are growing tall. We
are going to have a mowing party in Stickerville this weekend (May
5th). The weather should be a beautiful 60F which will be perfect for
getting work done.
Cheers, Becky
