This weekend was one of the best ever in my whole life so far. I
feel SO BLESSED to know some of the most WONDERFUL people in the
world, that is, people in the TCMusic community... Jose, Mike, Tim,
and Joe came out to support me at my gig on Sat. at Osceola and it
meant so much to me. Then, Sunday was an amazing day. As Jose said,
I went down to Miami where I was interviewed and performed on a Miami
public radio (NPR) folk and acoustic music show. I was pretty
nervous but I think it went alright for my first time... After I
started singing "Open Up YOur Eyes" I realized the lyrics
included "piss" and "shit"... ah, so much for the FCC... the show
host didn't say anything to me about it afterward, and I forgot to
ask... Then I opened for Sloan at a Glades Edge House Concert in Fort
Lauderdale that evening, which was a blast. The man who runs the
concert series holds monthly concerts in his home, and he brings in
folk musicians from all over the country. I am starting to learn
about the folk scene... for one thing, the musicians seem to be very
approachable... I got hooked up with this whole thing just by meeting
a guy who is not a musician but has gone to lots of folk festivals
and hung out with the musicians. Sloan was so warm and kind to me
and to everyone at the concert... people asked questions in between
songs, and she told lots of stories. I opened up with 3 songs, then
she performed (which was totally amazing - her lyrics are so poetic
and full of wisdom, they made me cry repeatedly), then there was an
intermission, then I played 2 more songs and then she did the rest of
her show. At the end, for the last number, she called me up to the
stage along with a flutist who was present, and we harmonized
together on Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". It all felt like a
dream. Many people asked me thorughout the day about the music scene
in Stuart, and I sang its praises... I am so thankful for Osceola
Street Cafe and John Lang for the wonderful place and space and
opportunity for us all to come together and grow together in the love
of music, and for all of you beautiful souls I have met there and
have had the good fortune to get to know better and spend time with.
And now I am THRILLED to hear about JoMiCo's upcoming gig!!! YOu
guys are so talented, you have all captivated me in your many
combinations over the past year or so and the thought of getting to
hear you for a few hours at once fills me with joy.
Peace and love,
Amanda
