Pre-Band Camp   Message List

Hey all –

I hope you’ve enjoyed your summer so far. As you know, pre-band camp is steadily approaching. This e-mail contains everything you need to know to be prepared for it.

First off, we have a couple opportunities for service on Monday and Tuesday. There will be music library and band room cleanup on Monday from noon to 4:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Even if you can only come for an hour or two during one of the two days, you’re more than welcome to come. We need all the help we can get to have the music wing ready for everything else going on this week.

Uniform fittings will be Monday and Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Everyone will need to come on one of the two days for about 30 minutes to be fitted. Vets, if you want your uniform from last year, we recommend that you come on Monday. As a general rule, the earlier you show up, the better your uniform fits.

Tuesday is the day of meetings. Band Council will be meeting at 2:00 pm to discuss post-band camp activities. Everyone is invited. Student staff [DMs, SLs, ASLs, and HQMs] will be meeting at 3:00 pm.

The leadership sleepover will be at Caitlin’s house [located at 12019 Hamden Ct, Oakton, VA, 22124] and will begin at 8:00 pm on Monday night. All members of Band Council and student staff are invited to come. If you can’t spend the night, we do suggest you come for the activities portion of the night [8 – 11] to be able to participate. Although sleepovers lend themselves to people staying up all night, if you’re attending meeting(s) on Tuesday, it is a bad idea to pull an all-nighter.

Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory full day rehearsals for rookies, guard, drumline, and leadership from 8:00 am5:00 pm. Friday and Saturday are mandatory full day rehearsals for all marchers. You will need your dot book on Friday and Saturday for drill. If you absolutely cannot make any of the rehearsals which are mandatory for you, you must inform your section leader, Jess [foiledhorn@...], and Ms. Ulrey [mary.ulrey@...] as soon as possible.

Section leaders will have music tests on Thursday with Ms. Ulrey, and everyone else will be tested on Friday by student staff. Music tests will cover all three movements of the field show [“Mask of Zorro”, “Diego’s Goodbye”, and “Mask of Zorro: Finale”], the Star Spangled Banner, and the fight song. If you will be absent on the day of your music test, you need to make alternate arrangements for testing with your section leader and Ms. Ulrey.

We will be spending most of the day outside, regardless of weather. Sunscreen, bug spray, and a hat are all highly recommended. If the forecast calls for rain, bring an extra shirt in case you get wet. Make sure you have shoes that are appropriate for marching. Bring a water bottle, and make sure you fill it before heading to the field. Although we will have an hour for meals, we do suggest you pack a lunch to eat at TJ. There is a microwave in the band room. Vet buddies should find and talk to their rookie buddy sometime before the week is up.

As always, any questions or concerns can be directed to me, Ben, or Jess.

-- Amanda
