hey...
please Please PLEASE take a minute to read this:
i made a stupid video for an IFC contest to win a free trip to
Australia, and it actually made it to the finals.
i never ask these sorts of things, but there were so few qualifying
entries that i think i could actually win if i get enough peeps to
vote for my video.
so, if you could go to IFC's web site, register, and give my video 5
stars, that would rule!

it's been so long since the last update!
TQR&R has a few new releases (and some upcoming
projects) that we think you just might dig...
LEARNING HOW TO FAIL by LISA MARR
DVD-r with bonus CD-r
TQR&R 016
Lisa Marr (you may know her as the lady from CUB,
BUCK, THE BEARDS, THE LISA MARR EXPERIMENT) has a
new dvd which "officially" comes out in
september, but it is now available from TQR&R and
directly from her! more about the dvd:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lisa Marr was a disillusioned musician. After
riding the indie music wave as the singer/bass
player for Canadian cuddle-core darlings Cub, she
moved to Los Angeles seeking fortune and fame but
in the fall of 2003, things weren't going so
well. Her latest band, The Lisa Marr Experiment,
just had its American tour canceled and the
future seemed uncertain. Suddenly she had a lot
of time on her hands and a lot of confusion in
her head. So she grabbed a beat-up guitar and a
video camera and headed out alone across the US
in her '88 Toyota Corolla hatchback looking for
the answer to one simple question: What is the
definition of success?
Marr performed impromptu shows in public places
(tourist traps, truck stops, parks, laundromats,
street corners, shopping centers, bowling
alleys), using her songs as conduits for
interactions with random passersby who took a
moment of their day to stop, look, listen and
enter into the ongoing discussion about the
meaning of success in America in the 21st century.
Learning How To Fail, Marr's first short feature
film, is a document of this journey.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
the dvd also comes with a bonus cd of her
performance at the Skrockin' Yer Butow radio show.
they'll be available from her site
(http://lisamarr.org/ ) after she gets back from
touring europe sometime in mid-august. and they
are of course available right now - as are mp3 &
video samples - from Top Quality Rock & Roll
(http://topqualityrockandroll.com/).
EARLY RECORDINGS by THE BIRTHDAY MACHINE
Enhanced Double 3" CD-r set
TQR&R 015
The Birthday Machine has broken up.
This saddens us here at TQR&R, however, we were
able to convince the band to let us release a few
of their earlier recording in the name of
prosperity.
Packaged in a darling little double mini CD-r
set, you get five tracks and a QuickTime video of
Closet Superhero, a song from their first (and
only) 7".

USED WITHOUT PERMISSION by Frankie & The S.E.M.M.
Double CD-r set
TQR&R 017
Frankie & The S.E.M.M. is TQR&R's experimental/noise "house band".
This latest release offers two 74min discs, each featuring found sound.
One of the discs features all the tracks from the
now defunct psycho ex-girlfriend web site, and
the other disc utilizes the soundtrack from a
promotional medical 16mm film that's soundtrack
got totally f'd up during a conversion to dvd.
mp3 samples naturally available at http://topqualityrockandroll.com/
and in the works for late summer/early fall...

89.3fm WHFR Radio is releasing a CD to support local
experimental/noise/electronic/space rock artists, and we are currently
accepting submissions from local artists (local being defined as any
bands/artists from Michigan).
the CD is being produced by Scott Boatright (host of Brain Ticket
Death) and myself (host of Skrockin' Yer Butow...), and will hopefully
be out this fall. it will be a four disc set (three 'real' CDs and a
bonus DVD-r) released on Top Quality Rock & Roll...
participants currently include:
Rattling Wall Collective in Dutch

PBK
Matt Borghi
Cotton Museum
Black Sand Desert

Viva)
Paik
Eric Cook/Ben Bracken
Will Soderberg
Windy and Carl
Frankie & The S.E.M.M.
Rough Muffin
Metal Dungeon
Little Princess
Wolf Eyes
while releasing a three CD set allows for a good number of tracks,
please keep in mind that we may not be able to include all submissions
if we run out of time/space on the release. the sooner you get a track
to us, the better the chances of the track making it to the CD.
for tracks that do get used, the artists of course retains all rights
to their tracks, and we only ask that the track is not released
anywhere else for at least a year after the WHFR CD comes out.
if you would like to submit a track for possible inclusion, please
feel free to email myself or scott with any questions:

TQR&R's latest release is a lovely, quaint 7" record by
The Birthday Machine.
For fans of Ida, Bedhead, Versus and charming indie rawk...
Available for download at http://topqualityrockandroll.com : an
mp3 of a demo recording from the record, and press info such as high
res. band photos, 7" cover art, and drawings...
The release date is October 30, 2002, but the record is currently
available only through Top Quality Rock & Roll
(http://topqualityrockandroll.com ) and Stormy Records
(http://www.stormyrecords.com). Limited green vinyl pressings
available only through TQR&R and Stormy while supplies
last...
The Birthday Machine live in Vancouver, Canada. They met each
other on the street because they
were attracted to each other's good looks. The band was formed in
1999 or so. They have a history
of baking cakes together and having group hugs. They sound like
Ida or Bedhead or Versus, if you
insist on an indie-rock comparison, but more often, they sound like
their current or former bands
Gaze, The Beans, and The Secret Three. They do not sound like The
Melvins, Daft Punk, or Sleater-
Kinney, although some of The Birthday Machine's members will attest
to enjoying those bands.
This is The Birthday Machine's first 7". We hope that you
like it.
Miko Hoffman, guitar, vocals; Stefan Udell, guitar, vocals; Brady
Cranfield, drums; Scott Malin, bass; Christa Min, guitar,
keyboards

hey there!
it's been such a long time since TQR&R's last update, that you

here's the news:
: : : : D E L T A W A V E S : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
TQR&R just released a new cd by detroit space rockers Delta Waves.
it's a split label release with Burnt Hair Records entitled, "the
Delta Waves dream in real time"
there's more on the cd at http://topqualityrockandroll.com & here's a review:
The Delta Waves-Dream in Real Time CD
The Delta Waves music tends to come from a dream perspective with
reverb drenched guitars and ambient soundscapes. The percussion
delivers many different styles from techno to breakbeat to addictive
acoustic beats. The Delta Waves like to make instrumental music as
well as songs with vocals. Vocals are usually subtle and although
they add a strong presence to the song they are almost hauntingly
used as an instrument. The Delta Waves explain their music as
soundtracks to dreams (or daydreams). The music is sometimes trancy
and hypnotizing. They achieve a wide and dynamic sound through soft
distortion and analog synth. Each song usually holds some form of
contrast that slips into the listener's ears almost subconsciously.
It is escapist music that is original and refreshing. For fans of
FSA, Seefeel, Windy & Carl, Slowdive.
