Guess who stole the show at the Chautaqua Hills Blues Festival???
Wow, the kids were awesome! I would imagine it was a tad awkward to
have to play AFTER Nick, Danielle and Kris.
I am a new TUFan after seeing them at the Million Dollar Elm in Tulsa
and again at the festival. I don't ever remember being as excited
about a band in my life. ..well maybe Led Zeppelin way back when!
Another great show from TUF last night at Uncle Bo's in Topeka, except last night we were treated to some great Sax work from their guest. He fit right in , like he's ben playing with them all along. Cant remember his name , but i guess he mixes it up with them at the Trouser or Knuckleheads every week. Hope we can get them more often in Topeka or even Manhattan. We have knew owners at The Blind Tiger Brewery in Topeka , and am trying to get them to cut loose and get TUF . The Tiger has won numerous gold medals for their beer in Colarodo and are hoping to get live music going at their place. Add some great blues from TUF and its almost heaven. Good music, good beer and pretty girls (Danielle!). See ya! Paintman John.
Saturday, 2/4/2007, I was running sound for the Polar Bear Plunge at Longview Lake (on the outskirts of Kansas City) to benefit Missouri Special Olympics. As usual, I was playing my favorite Blues music and assorted other genre's from local artists when a woman came up to me and asked the gal singing "Honey Bee" was Danielle. I answered that it most certainly is. She further commented about how she was at The Trouser Mouse the night "White Trash" was recorded. She also complimented Nick on his guitar work and Kris on "rouding out the sound" with is drums and vocals.
It was really neat to have a gal approach me and let me know that she was a big fan. I was proud to remind her that SoundGate Productions was to company that captured the two wicked TUF recordings at the Trouser Mouse, clearly one of KC's best Blues venues.
TUF will always have their music played at venues where I run the sound!
hey to all fans! we are hoping to get this great band signed to
wakarusa's lineup this year. please go to their website and under TUF
fans there is a link to TUF on sonicbids.com please click this link
and check out their page. the more hits they get, the better the
chances...thanks!
-First time poster on this site, and have become a big ,big fan of
TUF. Having seen them at Juls and uncle Bo's in Topeka at couple of
times each at am more impressed each time. Danielles voice is
unmatched and she sings with power and a depth of emotion i have
rarely seen before. I think she is reaching a level of musical
maturity well beyond her years.Iespecially like the way the band mixes
it up and its eclectic choices. She has a fine way of transitioning
from soulful blues to a almost jazzlike soft and mellow rendition of
Summertime and other hits. They are the best kept secret of Northeast
Kansas and should not be. Anyone who hears them once will become
instant fans.Nicks guitar screams ''aint that tough enough!",and
steves drum is powerful and right on.in closing the sum is worth more
than the parts and all the parts are could stand on their own. Looking
forward to seeing them in December at BO's and hope they come on a
frequent and regular basis. Thats all for now. John the
PAINTER.

Hey Steve!
Just a personal note to start off... To say the least, I'm extremely
excited about the new TUF CD!
I can tell you now, it's absolutely fantastic!
You can get a free sneak peak before the release party...simply click

to a cut for free! It will be the first song there, "Rather Be
Blind". The sight also has some other TUF songs for you to listen to
as well, and it's all free!
"MySpace.com" is a great way for bands to market themselves...the
more "hits" and "plays" they get, the more attention they get from
the "majors", so click in and help spread the word about TUF!
We'll let you know about the plans for a Philly Release Party...
Thanks, and here's the link; (you might have to cut and paste)

Hey ... just wondering if there are any plans for a CD release party
in Philly once the band gets back to town?
Along those lines, many of us in Philly are increasingly curious --
does TUF plan to continue being a "bi-city" band? Seems like the KC
scene has increasingly become the focus which is great for the
Midwest but not so good for us Easterners ;-). Philly has shown a
lot of love for Nick and K-Floor over the past six or seven years of
packed houses and I think TUF could match, if not surpass, that level
by playing on a more consistent basis here. We'd sure hate to lose
'em, on the selfish side, so hopefully you all keep playing Philly!
Anyway, just some food for discussion. Can't wait to hear the new CD!!
Regards,
Steve

I am bringing 15 (at last count) people to the Vincent's show on 8/12.
I talked so much about them, I had co-workers coming out of the
woodwork asking about coming with me to see them. (I am a HUGE blues
fan and have everything from Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters to BB King
and everything and anything blues oriented in bewteen, so I got a good
rep as far as good music goes). Anyhow, I cant wait to show my "new
discovery" off to my friends!!
I first caught them at a place called Vincent's in West Chester.
I had not heard of Vincent's nor TUF prior to that evening. Anyhow, I
was completely blown away by their performance. Needless to say, I got
their cd and I am now a TUF junkie. I need MORE!! I am seeing them
again on 8/12 at Vincent's (after having just seen them again at
Yachtstock in Essington, Pa). It always amazes me that groups like The
Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc, sell so many cds and you got
great groups like this working small clubs. I guess some people's loss
is my gain. Thank you TUF and keep on jamming!!

One moment you are looking at a charming, gorgeous, raven haired
young woman at the bar, the next you see the transformation into the
very essence of Kansas City blues. As Danielle Nicole steps onto the
stage and belts out the first lick of her mature, powerhouse vocals,
the new fans know they have found something special. Those that have
previously seen Trampled Under Foot (TUF) just smile in a knowing
way. As Danielle immerses herself deeper into her set and the shoes
come off, the sweat starts to drip and the fans become lost in her
voice, she transforms into the old soul her voice suggests. During
Lord Have Mercy, there was a gospel infused edge to her vocals, that
along with Nick's riffs on his guitar; I felt a spiritual connection
to her and all the members of TUF. To see her hair hanging in her
face, a cigarette dangling from her lips as she captivates us with
her bass playing, hips moving to the music, and simply owning the
crowd at such a relatively young age, is something that simply must
be seen to not just appreciate, but understand. As people like
comparisons, I knew I should try to give some idea of Danielle's
voice in this review. After pondering for two days on how to capture
the magic, the depth, the pain and the love that flows from her and
through her fans, the closest I can come is try to imagine if Susan
Tedeschi and Janis Joplin's voice were merged as one, that is an
idea
of the power of Danielle's voice.
This was both TUF's debut performance at Columbia, Missouri's
fabulous Martini Bar, and also my first time seeing the band; without
question this was one of the most amazing live shows I have ever
seen. The original members of the band are all siblings and are
offspring of their influential, blues playing parents out of Kansas
City, MO. Kris Schnebelen on drums, and Nick Schnebelen on vocals and
guitar have a quiet confidence about them that shines through in
their precision on their instruments and the passion in which they
play. The newest member of the band, Liam Goodrick also has an
amazing voice and is extraordinary on keyboard and has great banter
with the crowd at times between sets. The band's sound is crisp
and
clean, yet guttural and raw, the sounds of the instruments never
muddle with one another, rather there is such an incredible quality
in the clarity and layering of sounds; this ladies and gentlemen is a
true blues band.
It is a rare treat to get to see a band of this caliber in intimate
settings and know that you are part of the early stages of musical
careers that will influence future generations of blues players. As
each member of the band took the mic and belted out one amazing song
after another, the crowd rarely spoke and just listened, and the rest
hit the dance floor. I could probably write five more pages of praise
for this band, but still would be unable to convey the feeling of
seeing them live. In closing, I will simply say whether you are a
blues fan or not, if you love music, if you want to experience a
night you will speak of for years to come, you must see TUF play
live, and see, feel, and hear for yourself all that I have spoken of.
Don't forget to buy their CD and get the chance to meet all of
these
amazing musicians and experience the absolute charm of Danielle as
well!

Lady Sings The Blues
(A performance review by Mark Stitt, 4/23/05)
You know how I like to write up a little review of all the bands I
see, kind of a hobby of mine. Well, I went and saw 'Trampled Under
Foot' again Friday night, and I am not sure that I have the
vocabulary to describe what a great, great performance they put on. I
am no stranger to seeing them play, having seen them numerous times
now, yet they are still able to take the stage and absolutely blow me
away, along with the rest of the crowd. I can always tell the
newcomers by the raised eyebrows, delighted expressions and seeing
them turn to each other and mouth the word 'wow'! At the end of the
night, their faces are covered in grins like they are carrying a glad
secret.
So it was last night. Nick, the guitarist, had injured the index
finger on his right hand. Since he plays left handed, it did not
affect his ability to pick or strum, and he was only slightly
hampered with the fret work. Still, you would have to think that a 3
fingered guitarist would have SOME sort of deficiency, but that was
not the case at all. He continues to impress me with his ability and
the ease with which he plays. They had invited the guitarist from 'The
Nortons', John Brandsgard, to play with them, and let me tell you,
not only did it really flesh out the sound of the band, he was a
phenomenal player in his own right. Several times during the night,
he and Nick would trade off leads on songs with great success. It
reminded me of seeing Eric Clapton play, his playing was so
effortless. He never sang a note, but his grin spoke volumes about
what a good time he was having.
Kris once again provided a solid foundation with the drums, solid
kick bass notes and really good rolls, fills and flourishes. But as
always, it was Danielle Nicole's voice that stood out, it is an
instrument unlike any other. Did I mention that girl can sing? Just
unbelievable, what a rare treat, she truly has to be heard live to be
appreciated. And did I mention that she is all of 22? Are you kidding
me? She did lots of favorites, but in the second set did an old Etta
James song, I think the name is 'Blind Woman' but I am not sure. Let
me tell ya, she tore that song into little bitty pieces, head thrown
back, hair in her face, voice literally blasting the roof off the
joint. I mean, she always sounds great, but every once in a while she
reaches way down deep inside and unleashes this voice that can't be
described, it must be heard. Throbbing with emotion, it just roars
with anguish, pain and misery way beyond her years, both soulful and
bone chilling. Let me tell ya, she just absolutely nailed it. I
looked down and all the hair on my arms were standing straight up!
Man, what I would not give to have a copy of THAT performance.
I also noticed that all the people shooting pool and throwing darts
had stopped what they were doing and were looking on with similar awe-
struck expressions on their faces. Just a great, great performance by
a world class blues singer. She followed that up with a couple of
Janis Joplin songs, 'Summertime', 'Me and Bobby McGee' and 'Mercedes
Bends'. Throw in some Ray Charles, some B.B. King, a little Susan
Tedeschi along with some of their own originals and it just made for
a great night of live music.
A friend of mine, Tom, had seen my prior review and had passed it
along to some of his friends. Turns out that 8-10 of them showed up,
and I went and chatted with them between sets. They were all shaking
my hand and thanking ME, telling me what a good time they were
having and really enjoying the band. I told them all I try to do is
get people through the door, after that it was up to the band and
what an easy sell that is. I had no doubt they would not only enjoy
it, but come away impressed and ready to spread the word.
So, once again, I am putting out the word. Mark your calendars, hire
a baby sitter, get your grass cut etc., do what you have to but COME
SEE THIS BAND PLAY LIVE! Then, and only then will you understand what
it is I am trying so inadequately to describe. This is not a case
of "yeah, I went to a bar and saw some band last night", it is an
opportunity to be treated to a live performance unlike any other and
one I guarantee that you will truly enjoy. I have been to hundreds of
shows, from the smallest venues to stadium concerts, and yet have
rarely felt the kind of thrill I get from seeing TUF. Trust me, do
yourself a favor and check them out.
I'm glad you got this going! Hope we can make it out to see y'all
soon... or you can book a gig or three in Lawrence. I miss seeing the
show. :(
