Buckwheat Morales Rides Again continues a unique exploration of the
Nuyorican form of theater performance begun by new edge cabaret in
Spic Chic: S.panish P.eople I.n C.ontrol (2002) and followed up in
Lola Magdalena (2003).

The one man show Spic Chic addresses the audience directly in what
Viva Magazine describes as a "Boriconfessional" take on life. The
protagonist El Extreme travels from home to cultural awareness,
spiritual awakening, university surprises, professional realities,
love and death in the days following 9/11. The bittersweet one act
drew wide critical praise and award nominations from both AUDELCO and
SPOTLIGHT organizations.

Lola Magdalena introduces other solo voices and multimedia
experiences to build on the central theme of the trilogy, "life is
difficult; once accepted, the game becomes one of finding solutions
instead of living in the problem." The play's highlight, Maria
Hernandez monologue "Beautiful" and accompanying film "The Cello",
drew wide applause at the Biennalle-Bonn International THeater Arts
Festival in Germany this past June. With a free form jazz score
written and peformed by Composer/conductor David Amram, Lola
Magdalena is currently on tour throughout the University Circuit.

Buckwheat Morales is the ensemble culmination of the Spic Chic
trilogy featuring a musical score written by the Brooklyn based band
Beta Vulgaris (Bret Puchir guitar, Senor Jarret bass, Adam Amram trap
drums/percussion and Kevin Ross on turntables).

Additionally, Latino dancers led by Pietri Plays alumna Betina la
Bailarina and Mambo Ace Duplessey Walker crowd the scenes as El
Extreme and Lola Magdalena host a party in their Bronx palace of
dreams, "where la danza infinita is experienced every night."

"We live in a fluid world of various influences and experiences,"
says playwright Luis Chaluisan. "We bring everything but the kitchen
sink to the party and be careful if we don't bring that too!"

Meet Papito, Famous Hawthorne, La Dulce Maria, Rasman Norman and
Hattie plus the rest of the neighborhood as El Extreme and Lola spill
their drinks and stories onto their guests. An interactive
multicultuiral celebration of surviving life en la America: Land of
Constituition, Restitution and Prost - perity!

WEPA! PIETRI LEARNING DISH LAUNCHED IN BRONX

NEW YORK - Final preparations are underway inaugurating the space at
Pilgrim United Church of Christ in the Bronx NYC to host the Pietri
Learning Dish Program (named after the late Nuyorican Poet/Playright
Pedro Pietri.)

A reception is being held the first week of October to mark the
official launch of the program. According to Pilgrim Pastor Jose
Lantigua, "the office spaces are being finished and the computer bank
will be fully accessible by mid September."
