My number one (goes to every gig) guitar is my Les Paul Studio. I
always carry at least two guitars, as Murphy's Law will get me if I
don't. I also have an old "The Paul Deluxe", which has been
discontinued, so I will never sell it. It weighs less than my Les
Paul Studio, but still plays about the same and sustains just as
well. It is all scratched up and has a few dings from years in
clubs, but I still love it.
My number 3 guitar is a '69 Telecaster Thinline Re-issue. It is
very lightweight and has a completely different voice than my
Gibsons. Perfect for Steve Cropper licks and all those Memphis Soul
songs from Stax records back in the '60s.
What about amps? I have a 1970 Fender Bandmaster that still works
and sounds GREAT!
I hardly ever take it to gigs cause it is such a pain to move. Too
big and heavy, but it is fun to play in my studio!
For stage and clubbibg I use a Fender Blues junior for small clubs,
and a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 in larger venues. I use a MXR
Dynacomp for sustain at low volume, and an Ernie Ball Volume Pedal
for fades and swells.
