Hello everyone,
Since I'm new here, and I also joined quite a few groups, I'd like
to introduce myself.
My name is Michael, I am a 26 year old guitarist, I love jazz and
rock. I have been playing guitar for almost 8 years now. My
favorites are pretty much standard: Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis,
Herbie, Thelonious from the jazz guys. As guitar players I like
Scofield, McLaughlin and Metheny. From the Rock people: Petrucci,
Vai, some of Santana's stuff and David Gilmore of Pink Floyd.
I have two acoustic (Ovations) and one electric (a Strat). I have
been studying on my own for the most part. I wish I had more time to
play and practice. I try to play more and more jazz and keep my
technique intact whish is difficult with a busy schedule.
Anyway, the reason I joined this group is because I wanted to find
more sheet music and resources to improve my playing. I know the
internet has some great resources, so I decided to join some yahoo
groups as well.
Actually I am currently working on a video lesson that I got from
www.musiclessonsonline.net which is the Donna Lee by Charlie Parker.
I wish I could get it up to the speed that the guy plays it, but so
far I'm still trying to learn the tune. By the way I recommend this
site because it offers the most professional looking online lessons
I have seen to date and I have seen quite a few. I got referred to
it by a friend who knows the guy. Since I don't have too much time
to go to private lessons, online stuff is what I go by and at that
site I can just order whatever I want to learn and he records it and
sends it in a video lesson form. The lessons are much more
comprehensive and much more in depth that anything I've seen on the
web and it simply works best for me. Check it out; there is also a
free lesson on "the flight of the bumble bee".
I also want to maybe someday record my own stuff, which is a few
works for jazz guitar, a la Joe Pass with chords soloing and such.
Maybe I'll just buy a nice soundcard and a mic and record it at home
on my PC, I'll see.
So, enough talk, I'm glad I'm in the group and happy holidays to all.
Michael
