Hello! I've been a part of this egroup for a while but this is the
first time I have written anything. In Ben's last e-mail he posed the
question of what our favorite songs on "Corners" are. I must confess
that mine is by far "Lens Cap." I have an odd reason for this. It's
not necessarily the song per se which I like but one phrase: "her
wings won't fit on paper there's no room for them to fly." I know that
I am taking this line out of context but its meaning to me is deep. I
recently lost my boyfriend in a fatal car accident. We had known each
other for years and this was a great loss for everyone who knew him.
After I had recovered from the initial shock, I began to think about
how I could memorialize him. I decided that writing about him would be
the best way to do this. So I sat down at my computer and began to
type. After about a page I began to realize that no matter how much I
wrote I could never capture the entirety of Mike's essence on paper. I
was driving in my car listening to "Corners" and that line from "lens
cap" stuck in my head. Mike is now in heaven and no matter how much I
try I could never fit him or his wings within the confines of my paper.
I continued to write but I still have not captured Mike within my lens
cap. I wonder what David was really thinking about when he wrote that
line. From all of this I have learned to never take anything for
granted because in one swift instant everything can change.
Now that I have given my long winded answer to a short question I
would like to hear other people share their stories about their
favorite songs.
Hope to hear from y'all soon!
