Hi all-
It's wonderful to see a forum to discuss David's music. I could fill a lot
of pages in discussing what his music has meant to me... but I won't right
now :) I will, however, introduce myself and tell the abbreviated version
of
the story entitled: How I Came to Find David Lamotte's Music (subtitled:
Dumb Luck)
I'm a 20-something software technology analyst for a consulting firm in
Tampa,
FL which is where I've lived for almost 3 years now. I moved here from
South
Carolina to accept new employment and switched jobs again about six months
ago.
I have lots of interests including music, of course, sports and anything fun
that makes me laugh. I do play guitar and write music - although I haven't
done
much in the way of recording since some back problems last year. I had
surgery
and my entremities were numb for a long period of time and still aren't
quite
right. It's tough to play for more than a little bit at a time and my
playing
has suffered as a result. Hopefully, I will be able to get back to it, but
we'll
see.
OK... quick story. In college, I lived with the Resident Assistant for my
dorm.
Another guy in the dorm came upstairs to give him some paperwork and
accidently
left a cassette behind. He was gone before we noticed and we were unable to
give it
back to him. As I listen to all types of music ranging from rock and blues
to
folk to middle eastern and oriental strains, I took it upon myself to give
this
little guy a good home and stuffed it in one of my bags before leaving that
day. Of
course, that cassette was Barefoot and it blew me away. I never heard
anything about
David in my area and I didn't for over three years. One night I went to a
concert in
Athens, GA by Wilco and the Jayhawks. I was stunned to see a guy wearing a
tie dyed
David Lamotte t-shirt. I went over and started talking to him and found out
that yes,
David was still playing and that he was well. I thanked him and vowed to
find out
where he was playing and go see him.
Long story short - the next day a friend of mine who also loved Barefoot
called me. I
was going to call this friend and tell him of my good fortune the night
before in finding
out at least some information about David. Believe it or not, my friend
said to me, "Guess
who is playing a free show here tomorrow night... David Lamotte!" I could
not believe the
timing and thought he was pulling my leg. What a strange path life chooses
for us sometimes
and what a great sense of humor it sometimes has, as well. We went to the
show and
were hooked. He was great live and I got to meet him and share with him
some of the reasons
his music touched me so much.
There are many tangible reasons his music touches me - some of which may
come out on
this forum. The most important thing, however, is the sense of warmth one
gets from
his songs. It's a pleasure to find this mailing list and I hope to be an
active participant
and a good citizen. I apologize if this first e-mail is a bit long but I
don't know what
the traffic looks like on here just yet.
Here's to everyone and everything...
