The portrait print that accompanies Paul Griffiths's intriguing and informative article on Handel's Orlando in this morning's internet edition of The New York Times certainly is not an accurate depiction of the facial features of George Frideric Handel at any stage of his career. A retouched form of the image is reproduced in Rackwitz & Steffen's picture book on Handel (illustration no. 65), where it is captioned (incorrectly) as a portrait of Henry Purcell; it is more likely a portrait print of Henry's younger brother Daniel.

The Face Of Bach
"Those in charge are odd and ambivalent towards music, which means I have to live with almost non-stop vexation, envy, and persecution."
Johann Sebastian Bach, October 28, 1730
