Celebrate Jonathan Sternberg’s Final Season as the Bach Festival’s Artistic Director
After 5 tremendously successful years with our Festival, Maestro Jonathan Sternberg will retire from the Bach Festival after this season. Under Mr. Sternberg’s artistic direction, the Festival has grown in both size and prominence, with landmark performances of local and international performers. Help us make Maestro Sternberg’s final season with the Bach Festival his best ever by filling the halls for all of our concerts. Tell your friends and family, and get your tickets here!
Matthew Glandorf Appointed as new Artistic Director for 2008-2009
We are pleased to announce that Matthew Glandorf has agreed to join us beginning with the 2008 – 2009 season as our new artistic director. Mr. Glandorf is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music, is the artistic director of the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, and is an organist and choirmaster at St. Mark's Church in Philadelphia. If you haven’t yet heard Mr. Glandorf’s work, you have a terrific opportunity to hear Choral Arts perform The Complete Motets of J.S. Bach during this year’s Festival Week. Tickets to the Motets are available through Choral Arts’ website or you may attend by purchasing the Festival Pass (only 150 for sale!)
2008 Bach Festival Piano Competition
The Bach Festival is still accepting applications for the International J.S. Bach Piano Competition during the 2008 Festival Week. The competition is open to professional and pre-professional pianists aged 18-30 who have completed or are engaged in completing a course of study in preparation for a solo career. We already have received entries from as far way as Budapest. Enter the competition or come and listen! For more info click here.
Help Us Make This Year’s Season Even More Successful Than Last Year’s!
Under Maestro Sternberg’s artistic direction &Guido Houben’s executive direction, the Festival has grown in both size and prominence, with landmark performances of local and international performers. In addition to our many artistic accomplishments, for the first time in many years we finished our fiscal year with a small budget surplus. Please see our 2006-2007 Annual Report for more details. Guido Houben moved to Switzerland and is no longer with us but we hereby also like to thank him for the excellent job he has done for us over the years.
Help us maintain this terrific momentum and grow the Festival by contributing to the Bach Festival. Your donations are particularly important now, as the vast majority of our annual expenses – the money we pay to the musicians who bring the music of Bach to the City of Philadelphia – are incurred during the Festival Week. Ticket sales cover only one third of the costs, so in addition to buying tickets (consider buying tickets and giving them to friends and colleagues!), you can help keep us strong by now making a tax-deductible donation securely online or sending a check made out to the Bach Festival of Philadelphia. Our mailing address is 8806 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia PA 19118.
