William H. Scheide's 95th Birthday   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #191 of 199 |
Today is the 95th birthday of William H. Scheide, the founder of the Bach Aria Group and one of the great Bach scholars of our time.

Anyone who would like to send Bill a birthday greeting may send an e-mail to him at SchFund@....

To celebrate his 95th birthday, Bill and his wife Judy are sponsoring an all-Bach concert at Richardson Auditorium at Princeton University, in Princeton, New Jersey, on Friday, January 23.  The concert is a benefit.  For more information, please visit www.scheideconcerts.com
.

In New York Cith, this coming Friday evening, January 9, at 7:30 PM, at the monthly meeting of the Vocal Record Collectors' Society, Seth B. Winner and I are putting on a special programme to honor Bill on his 95th birthday.  We will be presenting historic recordings made by member of the Bach Aria Group and by guest soloists during the 34 seasons that Bill was its Director.  This group of recordings come from the privately made recordings that Bill had made for his own archives and feature artists like Eleanor Steber, Marian Anderson, Jan Peerce, Roberta Peters, William Warfield, Lorna Haywood, and Helen Watts.  The meetings of the VRCS are open to the public at no charge, but donations are welcome.  The meeting will be held at Christ Church Methodist, Park Avenue at 60th Street, in Manhattan, in the lower level social hall.  The entrance is on Park Avenue, to the North of the main entrance to the sanctuary.

Bill Scheide was born on Twelfth Night, and the famous words from the Shakespeare play of that name are so appropriate:

If music be the food of love, play on!

May Bill have many healthy, happy, successful, and prosperous returns of the day!

Teri Noel Towe

The Face Of Bach

"Those in charge are odd and ambivalent towards music, which means I have to live with almost non-stop vexation, envy, and persecution."

Johann Sebastian Bach, October 28, 1730

P.S.  I apologize for the inevitable duplicate transmissions of this announcement.
