Unbeknown to those people attending a concert at The Borderline, London on the night of 3rd December 1996, they were to witness the final performance of the premier Texan singer/songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. He died less than four weeks later on the 1st January 1997. That day the music world lost a great songwriter. And the world in general lost a man who possessed sensitivity and humour in equal measure.

Although beset by personal demons and a need to constantly keep moving, Townes had a rare talent. From his own experiences were born some of the most hauntingly beautiful songs of our time.

During his 52 years he toured extensively throughout the USA and Europe attracting fans and admirers amongst both music lovers and fellow musicians. Since his death both have strived to keep Townes’ music alive. His fans have brought his music to others, and those musicians he inspired have covered many of his songs.
