Nevada Ballet Theatre Woman of the Year Priscilla Presley promises that more changes are coming to Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis at Aria at MGM’s CityCenter. Over the weekend when she was honored in NBT’s annual tribute, she saw the spectacular yet again.
Priscilla went with daughter Lisa Marie and son-in-law Michael, son Navarone Garibaldi, her mother Ann and her granddaughter Riley Keough, plus several Santa Barbara, Calif., friends, including my pal Tom Rollerson from The Dream Foundation, which Priscilla and I support.
“Every time I see the show, I take notes,” Priscilla told me in a one-on-one conversation before the gala. “It’s in the best shape it’s ever been since it’s started. I think it’s much tighter. They’ve added more Cirque elements. I think that the dance numbers are better and so smooth.
“We’re still working on some music. They promised to put a little more gospel in it. More gospel, that was really where his roots were. They’re going to add more of him right in the beginning. And we’re still working on the ‘Jail House Rock’ number and trying to get him in that, too. They need him in that. Even though you’re blown away by the guys walking upside down, Elvis should be there. They are working on that.
“It’s been a long journey, but it’s a wonderful tribute to him -- Cirque’s incredible celebration of Elvis. I’m thrilled a whole new generation of people, children who now come with their parents who were originally taken to see Elvis by their own parents -- that’s three generations -- are now being introduced to him. Obviously even as a young kid, there’s something that connects Elvis with children, too. We’re nurturing that generation now.”
I asked Priscilla about her night with NBT’s Black & White Ball.
“I feel very honored. I support the performing arts, and the work that the Nevada Ballet Theatre has done for the past 38 years is astounding. To achieve that success in Nevada competing with all the talent we have here loaded on The Strip is a major accomplishment. From the very beginning, there’s always been a lot of talent here and especially now with this company. It nurtures children and exposes them to theater art and productions. We need that so badly because it’s being taken out of our school systems.”
Priscilla said that although she studied ballet as a child, she couldn’t get Lisa Marie interested in it. “It’s the only thing I couldn’t teach her. I wanted her to go, but she didn’t. She’d have nothing to do with it. I loved it. I had little ballet classes. Then I took it up all over again in the late 1960s. Actually, after I had her, I started ballet to get in shape. I did a little jazz. I’ve always loved the performing arts; I’ve always been a part of it in some way. Whether it be supporting, or whether it be actually dancing, whether it be going to productions, whether it be going to musicals, going to Broadway. So the work of the Nevada Ballet Theatre is very close to my heart.
“You might not associate ballet and classical music with Vegas. It may sound strange to people who think they know the city. But as a child, or for children especially being exposed, the performing arts are so diverse. It can go from ballet to jazz to musicals. Ballet is like a vitamin B shot of dance. So in order to really be proficient, having ballet as your foundation is really the ultimate.”
Lisa Marie, whom Senior Editor John Katsilometes chatted with briefly at the gala, confirmed Mom’s story: “Ballet was the one thing she couldn’t make me do, to be honest! I think possibly she even dreamed of being in ballet. She was always very big on dancing, so I think it’s quite possible she could have become a ballerina if her life didn’t go in a different direction. You could see on Dancing With the Stars how she loved that. And this tribute makes me so proud of my mother. I’m very happy for her and honored to be here for this.”
The only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla and sole heir to the Presley fortunes said that she’s in the middle of her third album but doesn’t have a title yet. She told me that it was being mixed and mastered while she was in Las Vegas. She is staying stateside through tomorrow before returning to her estate outside London with her fourth husband, musician Michael Lockwood, who also is her producer and guitarist.
“I don’t know how to quite explain the new record yet. We haven’t decided on the title, and after it’s mixed, I should be able to tell you in a couple of weeks more about the sound and what we set out to achieve. We’re very happy with it so far.”
Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past decade giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.
Making a rare public appearance, Lisa Marie Presley attended the P&E Wing event ‘Shaken, Rattled and Rolled’ honoring T-Bone Burnett at The Villiage Studios in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (February 9).
The 43-year-old singer/songwriter/rock & roll royal was joined by the likes of musician Ray LaMontagne as she celebrated the 10-time Grammy Award winner and true legend in the music industry.
Meanwhile, after giving birth to fraternal twin girls in October of 2008, Lisa Marie is said to be currently recording a new album in London due to be released later this year.
She and her family were reported to have bought a $13 million stately home near Tunbridge Wells, Kent late last year as Lisa Marie decided to leave Los Angeles because of gossip surrounding her ex-husband Michael Jackson. She also said recently that LA had “gotten dramatically worse in the last five or six years, even more shallow if that’s even possible.”
Priscilla Presley is adding jewelry designer to her resume with the debut of a collection inspired by her own pieces.
Priscilla Presley was the teenage love and later wife of Elvis Presley, mother to their daughter, Lisa Marie, and an actress best known for the three "Naked Gun" movies and TV's long-running "Dallas" saga.
Now Ms. Presley is a jewelry designer.
On Friday Ms. Presley will launch the Priscilla Presley Jewelry Collection on QVC. Aimed at providing rock-star glam at affordable prices, the jewelry line is inspired by pieces from Ms. Presley's personal jewelry collection. Her collection is versatile enough to wear to the office or out on the town.
Ms. Presley first considered designing fine jewelry but felt the current economic situation called for more affordable fashion. She said it was challenging to design jewelry with the right weight and beauty that was reasonably priced.
Necklaces, earrings and rings are priced less than $100. Signature pieces include a pair of earrings with diamond teardrops hanging from diamond-encrusted Gothic crosses that resemble a pair of earrings she wore to a Graceland fundraiser, and a Byzantine-inspired cross pendant that reflects one of the many pendants Elvis gave her.
With jewelry, Ms. Presley believes less is more. An old rule she follows: You should wear no more than three pieces of jewelry at a time. A couple of statement pieces such as set of gorgeous earrings and a chunky ring is an appropriate way to accessorize.
She'll introduce her jewelry collection from 1 to 2 a.m. Friday on QVC. Pieces from the collection are available at www.qvc.com.

Priscilla Presley wants television show Glee to do an Elvis-themed episode.
The actress married rock ‘n’ roll star Elvis in 1967 and the couple went on to have a daughter, Lisa Marie, before divorcing in 1973. Priscilla is a huge fan of Glee – which follows a group of high school students who belong to a musical club - and thinks the cast would give terrific renditions of her ex-husband’s most famous songs.
Glee has already paid tribute to a host of music acts including Madonna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Journey and Priscilla believes Elvis should be honoured next.
"I think it's great,” she told ET when asked if she is a fan of Glee. “They should be doing Elvis music on there one time... I think it would be great, why not."
Priscilla was also asked about Justin Bieber, the teenage pop star who is currently setting music charts alight across the world. The 65-year-old is unsure if anyone will ever achieve the same level of success as Elvis did, but she does appreciate Justin’s music. Priscilla believes the music industry has changed a great deal since Elvis hit the charts in the 50s and she doesn’t think current artists can sustain such lengthy careers.
"You know, today is such a different time. It's just a different time,” she explained. “Justin Bieber is actually doing great at a very young age, that's another phenomena. The test of time will be how long he can stay on top."

While Prince William and Kate Middleton were watched by millions upon millions in their multi-million-dollar Royal Wedding in England, Steve Wynn also wed a British woman, the now-former Andrea Hissom, in a wedding attended by hundreds (reports range from 500 to 1,000 guest).
Oscar winner Clint Eastwood made Wynn’s day by serving as the best man, and Sylvester Stallone, Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley were among the guests. Mr. Vegas DeLuxe Robin Leach and Senior Editor John Katsilometes were on Las Vegas royal wedding duty.
Thanks to the newly wed Steve and Andrea Wynn, they’ve let the public watch their faux wedding ceremony they created in advance of their real wedding over the weekend. Hotel mogul Steve dressed as Elvis and the former Andrea Hissom dressed as Lady Gaga complete with white, high-heel boots. All 1,000 guests loved the video, and Steve has kindly agreed to share what he showed to his well-wishers, among them Priscilla Presley and Joe Esposito, Elvis’ friend and former bodyguard.
Congratulations again to the bride and groom, and enjoy the completed VIDEO.

Eric Bana To Play Elvis Presley In "Elvis And Nixon"
The famed meeting between Elvis and President Nixon was always the stuff of movie-making visionaries–and now the dream film is about to be made. One can almost see Elvis walking into the Oval Office wearing black and bringing a Colt 45 pistol as a present for Nixon. The whole scene screams for a film.
Now there will be a move.
I posted on my blog photos of the stars for the film, along with links to many of the supporting documents that will make this a memorbale film for Elvis fans and Nixon history buffs alike.
