CELEBRATING OUR 10TH YEAR ON THE INTERNET, TALKING ABOUT PLAYING THE PIANO. THE ORIGINAL GROUP WAS A CLUB THAT STARTED IN 2000 CALLED EAST TORONTO PIANO ENTHUSIASTS. WHEN YAHOO CHANGED THE CLUBS TO GROUPS, OUR LOVELY GROUP WAS LOST, AND ALSO SOME MEMBERS. AT THAT TIME WE HAD ABOUT 300 MOSTLY ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS. WE HAD MANY ACTIVITIES ON THE GO SUCH AS WRITING OUR OWN THEME SONG FOR THE GROUP, PLAYING FOR EACH OTHER, ETC. SOME MEMBERS WOULD MAKE A TAPE WITH ONE PIECE THEY WERE PLAYING, AND SEND IT ON TO THE NEXT MEMBER WHO WOULD ADD THEIR PIECE, ETC. WE WERE ALL VERY SUPPORTIVE OF EACH OTHER AND REALLY BROUGHT PEOPLE WITH THE SAME INTERESTS TOGETHER.
When I was very young, I remember going visiting. The hosts had a beautiful piano, which, of course, I wasn't allowed to touch. To this day I still feel the disappointment.

At that very moment I fell in love with the beautiful look, feel and sound of the piano. It wasn't until my forties that I finally decided that it was now or never.

As an adult piano student you encounter many obstacles. You hear a lot of negativity such as "you won't learn because you are an adult" and "children can learn faster and better", etc. These beliefs are not true. People are people whatever their age. Anyone, child or adult, can learn if they apply themselves and are interested. We are hearing about elderly people graduating from universities and doing very well.

I hope that I will be able to encourage adults who have put off learning piano, to go ahead and give it a try. There will be no stopping you if you want to do it. Forget what other people say, just become a child again and start to learn. You will be so happy you did.
