Gamelan Tunas Mekar performs at “A Taste of Colorado”
Saturday, September 4, 8-9:45pm
Heritage Stage, Denver, Colorado
Gamelan Tunas Mekar, under the direction of composer and Artist-in-Residence I Made Lasmawan, takes the stage at “A Taste of Colorado” in Denver this Saturday, September 4 from 8-9:45pm. Modeled after typical village groups found throughout Bali, Tunas Mekar provides American audiences with an authentic glimpse of one of the world’s most fascinating cultures. Saturday’s performance will feature the dances “Puspanjali” and “Cendrawasih,” instrumental pieces performed on the gamelan angklung and an appearance by Catur Eka Santi performing on the gender wayang. The angklung orchestra typically accompanies temple festivals and traditional life-cycle rites; gender wayang is the four-member orchestra of the Balinese shadow puppet plays.
