Join Gamelan Tunas Mekar on KGNU radio's Kabaret program, airing
Monday, September 24 from 7-8pm Mountain Time. KGNU is located at 88.5
FM in Boulder, 89.1 FM in Ft. Collins. A live webstream can be heard
at:
http://www.kgnu.org/kabaret/index.html (click on "Live Webstream")
Tunas Mekar will perform new and traditional gamelan angklung pieces
including "Kretek Layang" composed by I Made Lasmawan, artist-in-
residence. Translated as "Flying Bridge," Kretek Layang describes the
bridging of Indonesian and American cultures, as well as, more
literally, the highway bridges that Pak Lasmawan encountered when he
first came to the United States. It features the kreteg layang
instrument designed by Pak Lasmawan and constructed of varying lengths
of metal pipes.
Kabaret is broadcast live uncensored from the performance studio at
KGNU's Boulder home. We hope you'll be able to listen in, especially
those of you too distant to see us in person!
