Subject: A Cappella Workshop with Ben Parry, October 2nd in Watford
ramadreaming
Send Email Send Email

Description: http://singacappella.org/templates/singacappella/images/Header.png

Dear All

We wanted let you know about an opportunity this October to help your singing to the next level with internationally renowned conductor, singer and producer Ben Parry.

                                                             Description: http://singacappella.org/images/stories/swingbanner.jpg

If you've not come across Ben before let us introduce you! This former singer and Musical Director of the Swingle Singers has made over fifty CD recordings as conductor, singer and producer and his music is published by Peters Edition and Faber Music. He works regularly with young musicians as a director of the Eton Choral Courses and as the Director of Junior Academy at the Royal Academy of Music. He is also is co-Director of the professional choir London Voices, and has worked with Sir Paul McCartney on his new classic choral work, Ecce Cor Meum, as well as conducting and singing on the soundtracks of a number of major Hollywood films.

Those of us who have worked with Ben before have been impressed by the breadth of his coaching expertise and his forensic ear. That's why we were delighted when he agreed to run a day's workshop in which we will explore:

  • improved singing techniques
  • song interpretation
  • vocal blend
  • tonal production
  • how to put the polish on a song

Where and When?

Sunday 2nd October 2011, 10am - 4pm

The Clarendon Muse
Watford Grammar School for Boys
Rickmansworth Road
Watford
WD18 7JF.

How can I book?

You can book online via the www.singacappella.org web site. You can pay by Paypal, Credit Card or send a cheque through the post.

How much does it cost?

The workshop costs:

  • £20 for Sing a Cappella! members
  • £25 for non-members

You can find out more about joining Sing a Cappella! (which only costs £5) by clicking the "Join" button on our website.

If you think you fit the bill, please get in touch!! Many thanks.

This is my cup of tea entirely. I am an avid fan of take 6 and also the king singers (a more traditional english approach) I just recieved an MA from LCM specialising in a cappella vocal arrangement. I have started to arrange 'so cool' by take 6 and have many other arrangements for 3-10 part vocals. I am currently on tour around america, but I would love to give you some of my arrangements or come along and watch you rehearse/perform? I am based in brentwood.

Congratulations – and when you get home look us up. We are the only society in the UK which is trying to support contemporary a cappella, in all singing styles. We want to build a directory of arrangers on our website and it sounds like you’d find us your cup of tea too! And if the potential new group gets off the ground, do think about joining us.

Thanks for coming back.

The website is at www.singacappella.org but I’ve just noticed that the Arrangers section of the website seems not to be fully functioning. And in any case, you won’t be able to access the relevant page unless you first register as an Individual member of Sing a cappella! (This costs a fiver – see Join in main menu.)

I’m copying to Ian who is our website manager. I’m sure he’ll tell you what info to supply so that you can be added to our site as an arranger. He may not be able to sort this until next week, however, as the whole Sing a cappella! team is very busy organising the first UK appearance of Vocal Line, a fantastic a cappella choir from Denmark. This is at the Greenwood Theatre in central London this coming Saturday. Full details are on the website.  Do try to get there if you can. I’ve seen them perform twice before and have no hesitation in recommending them.

A Cappella and barbershop knowledge and experience
Extensive musical skills

We're looking for two new members to join Fuchsia as we begin an exciting new stage in our a cappella journey.

We are looking for:

  • A tenor
  • A low bass, ideally someone who can also beatbox. This is a new role; Fuchsia is
expanding from five parts to six.

We would love to hear from you if you are an experienced and versatile performer, comfortable with singing in different styles including jazz, groove/soul, and contemporary classical. We are looking for vocalists with strong sight reading ability, who are quick at learning new material, with excellent aural skills. The ability to improvise would be a plus. Experience of a cappella singing would be a significant bonus but isn't essential.

You would be joining a group that has big ambitions. Fuchsia has already performed at some high profile venues: the Queen Elizabeth Hall Front Room, the Royal Festival Hall and Clore Ballroom, the Barbican Hall, the 606 Jazz Club and the National Theatre Studios.

We recently had a monthly residency on the Free Stages at the Southbank Centre, working creatively with renowned vocal director Mary King, who describes Fuchsia as "a really talented a cappella choir with a strong and unique blend of voices. Fun, brave, talented – what more could you wish for in a vocal ensemble?!"

From 2012 onwards we're planning to build on this promise and take Fuchsia to the next level artistically.

We also carry out occasional session work and corporate functions, and our aim is for Fuchsia to get more work like this in the future.
Visit our website at www.fuchsiasingers.com to watch videos and hear clips of us.

Find out more and apply

To apply, please email info@... with your CV and a recording of yourself singing and/or beatboxing – preferably a video, although an audio clip would also be fine.

Deadline for applications: 23rd December 2011

Auditions will be held in January 2012.

Happy New Year from The Magnets.

Traditionally our year starts slowly, but in 2012 we’re off to a flier with 60+ shows booked in before the end of May, taking in Singapore, Australia, Netherlands, Germany and a Spring tour back home in the UK.

In between shows, we’re squeezing in recording sessions for our next album and will soon be releasing a brand new live DVD, lovingly filmed and edited by Fraser during the course of our Autumn tours in the UK and Germany. Check out the official DVD trailer here.

Introducing our 2012 Festival and Workshop

                                  Description: London Voices Consort photo

We at the British contemporary a cappella society (better known as Sing a Cappella!) are very excited to announce that tickets for our 2012 festival and workshop are now on sale. We've managed to secure the services of six of the UK's best singers and educators to run a full day's workshop at Berkhamsted School on Sunday 29th April.

Here's what we're lining up for the day:

  • two coaching opportunities for both singing groups and individuals
  • specialist sessions on vocal percussion, improvisation, vocal arranging, performance tips, singing techniques, technology for choirs and more
  • open stage for live performances
  • an inspirational recital by the London Voices Consort
  • an introduction to a new core repertoire of a cappella songs which will be sung by choirs across the UK
  • a chance to meet up with and learn from other like minded groups

We've worked really hard to keep ticket prices down. You can get all this for just £20 per person. And if you bring a group of 20 people or more this price drops to just £15 per person (drop us a note to cathy@... for the special coupon code for groups of 20+).

Tickets are already selling really quickly so do act soon to reserve a coaching slot for your group or a ticket for yourself. These can be bought at http://singacappella.org/2012festival by clicking on the Buy tickets link in the menu in the left hand column. If you wish to apply for a group coaching slot just enter the name of your group in the space provided and give us details of the names of your party (and email addresses if you'd like us to send them joining instructions directly). We're limited to ten group coaching slots and these will be allocated on a first come/first served basis. Full details of the event including timetable for the day, break-out session details and biographies of the educators can be found on our website or by clicking here Description: Download fact file pdf here.

We think that this will be an amazing day for singers and represents incredible value for money. Could you help us share the news about it? Attached to this email is a flier which can be printed off and circulated at meetings of your singing groups. If you are a user of social networking services like Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ you will find buttons at the bottom of the 2012 Festival page on our website which enable you to easily share details of this event with your friends. Please do consider this - all our events receive tremendous approval from attendees and so we really want to spread the word as widely as possible. Thank you!

Yours in harmony

The Voices festival, which will take place at the Black-E and Bluecoat, Friday
16 March to Sunday 18 March, has been billed by organisers as 'Liverpool's
biggest a cappella celebration.'

The festival will see various masters of the singing style descend on Liverpool
to celebrate the art form at a series of events, including performances by
accomplished a cappella artists as well as presentations concerning the links
between singing and health.

Saphena Aziz, who is a co-director at Sense of Sound who are presenting the
festival along with the Black-E, commented: "We are absolutely delighted to
present Voices Festival to the city of Liverpool this year.

"The festival incorporates everything from interactive events, incredible
performances and access to learning more about the benefits of singing.

"We hope to showcase the diversity of a cappella singing over the course of the
festival, and look forward to the many spectacular performances we have lined
up."

The Voice Festival UK is launching a new initiative to encourage young people to
get involved in contemporary a cappella singing. The aim is to provide school
pupils with the opportunity to meet and work with older singers and
professionals, and to boost their creativity, confidence, teamwork, musical and
performance skills through a cappella singing.

The School Start-Up project brings together teachers with Voice Festival
mentors, who will advise them as they start and develop their school vocal
group, facilitated by the Voice Festival's support structure and programme of
events. The project is specifically targeting schools where there is currently
little or no provision for singing. Teachers need not be music specialists -
they should have a good level of musicality, some singing/ensemble experience,
keyboard/guitar skills as an advantage and lots of enthusiasm! As far as mentors
are concerned, the prime area of recruitment will be amongst current or former a
cappella group members. The Voice Festival also plans to involve university
singing groups to give workshops and performances to inspire the young singers,
with the secondary benefit of allowing them to learn a bit more about higher
education.

* * RECRUITING TEACHERS AND MENTORS * *

The Voice Festival is aiming to recruit a group of excellent mentors, and to
reach schools who will really benefit from the opportunity. Please pass on this
message to anyone who might be interested.
