There's some useful info here that will help you understand MIDI
connections...

It's about connecting to an Atari computer (remember those) but it
still applies today - just replace "Atari" with "PC" or "Mac" and
you're set.

Maybe one day Vast Programmer will have a MIDI THRU function which
will solve a lot of these problems in a blink.
