Hey WASSUP,

Anyone interested in a late afternoon performance on July 4th here in Tacoma at a retirement center.  It would put some bucks in our coffers.  Someone else would need to take the lead on this.  Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

It sounds like a nice opportunity, but I have plans on the 4th and won't be
available.

Normally I send out a message on the day after a SUPA song circle to tell people about the South End Ukulele Society meeting on the subsequent Saturday, but this month is different. SEUS meets on the third Saturday of the month, which this month is on the 21st. Funny how that works.

I'll send out a reminder next week for the SEUS gathering on May 21st.

I've just found The Library of Congress National Jukebox project. It's a collection of old recording that are now in the public domain. There's such an overwhelming quantity of music here, but I started in on the "humorous songs" section, and there are a number of songs here that might be of more than casual interest to ukulele players. There was one that I recognized as a SUPA handout several months ago, titled "I want to go to Morrow". I'm currently listening to "

My Waikiki ukulele girl", and I've also listened to "Hello, Hawaii, how are you?"

This is an incredible treasure!

The South End Ukulele Society (SEUS!) is live and on-line, and will be on the air this Saturday!

We've got a ukulele (and other instruments) jam circle in Kent on the third Saturday of each month starting at 1:30 and continuing until the last person quits and goes home.

If you or anyone you know is interested in playing with this group, feel free to come on down. We play most of our songs from the current SUPA and Lakewood group songbooks, plus whatever hand outs people are inclined to bring and share. We meet at the Kona Kai Coffee Company in Kent located at: 124 4th Ave South, Suite 180, Kent, Wa. They’ve been kind enough to allow us to take over their large room once a month, and are excited about having people come and play.

We're open to all ages young and old, hope to see you on Saturday!

Hi Everyone,

As you recall, we moved our August meeting up one week so we can have more practice before our performance at the Proctor Farmer's Market this coming Saturday, August 27th, from noon until 2:00.

The meeting will be Tuesday, August 23rd, at Point Defiance Village at 6::30 PM.  I will be working tomorrow evening but I will get there ASAP.

Even if you are a new member, this is a great opportunity to gain familiarity with some of our songs.

The link below is a great tutorial on strum patterns.  If you have a moment take a look - as we may refer to some of the patterns at the meeting. I have also attached a related PDF about the same strums (courtesy of Ukulele WikiWiki).

See you there!

Bring a chair if you need one and of course, your books and ukulele.  We may have a new member, Allison, show up so help her out if you see her.

Thanks to Don Yoder for leading us to and through the songs.  Also, thanks to Maria who is dealing with some administrative stuff.

I will try to make it to concert tomorrow. We have out of town guests and don't

That was a fun event, and I hope to keep in touch until we head back to Honolulu in early Nov.  We were glad to meet your wife.  Maybe sometime, we can talk story about Palolo, Kaimuki (my neighborhood) and St Louis Hts (arlene's digs).

Just wanted to be sure that you know I'm getting you emails.

Hi WASSUP

Congradulations on a fine performance at the Proctor Market!!!!!

I heard a lot of positive feedback! And, we earned some money for our picnic!

Speaking of picnics.....you are invited, along with your family, to our annual picnic this coming Sunday (Sept 11th) at the "Gig Harbor" picnic site at Point Defiance Park at 1:00 PM.

Our club treasury will cover the main course but otherwise it's a potluck.  I can bring a propane grill but it is small so another one or two would be great. Please let me know if you can bring a propane grill (No open flame is allowed) and/or whatever else you plan to bring.

I will also bring trash bags and the coffee maker with coffee cups, etc.  I will also get a variety of juices and cups.

Pt. Defiance Park is located at the far north end of Pearl Street in Tacoma. The "Gig Harbor" picnic site is located at the far northwest corner of the "5 Mile Drive". The 5 mile drive does not open to vehicle traffic until 1:00 PM. See map link below.

If anyone has "bocce ball" or any other fun games please bring them.

We will also have a "Woodland Ukulele March" commencing at about 3:00 PM.

See you Sunday!

Call if any questions: Tom @ 253-4312-6694

PS - don't for get your uke!

Got that stuff...need onions, cream & sugar for the coffee. Maria is bringing a side dish but nobody else has responded to say what they're bringing so not sure what to expect.

Hi all,

Here's what we have so far.  Nancy is bringing plates, cups, etc.

I've got hot dogs & buns, hamburgers & buns, juices, and soda and potato chips.

We need:

Cheese (for the burgers and diced for the dogs)
Onions
Side dishes
Desserts
Another propane grill

Let me know if you can bring one of the above

Hi Tom and WASSUP members,
If any WASSUP folk want to join Seattle Ukulele Player's Association (SUPA) after the picnic, they have a gig tomorrow evening @ Seattle Center's Fisher Pavilion (show up at 5pm, play at 6pm)
The occasion? Playing the closing spot for Live Aloha IV festival. Should be fun, and SUPA has  invited all the area uke groups to come join. If you scroll below my message, there is a link
to a PDF file to download all the music, in the order it will be played tomorrow night at the festival
Friendly Regards,
Bonnie C.

Carel has kindly put all the songs into one complete .pdf file, in order, so you can create your own songbook for the event:

We are the concluding act for the day's events, so there will be a few guitarists and the like who may need to peek over your shoulders to see the songs we are doing.
