Oh I meant the announcement about the Kentucky festival next July, Doughrhon. I was just surprised another one was being started.

Mt. Jam is THE Mule festival. I personally never go VIP. I find the
regular tickets for three full days of music a tremendous bargain.

Not to be a Negative Nelly here (I come to this group via Warren Haynes'  involvement with the Dead in 2004 and in 2009), but to my unpracticed eye, the Mule likes to charge $399 when possible for their "VIP" experience.  It seems like this includes a t shirt and a poster, which I don't think are the stuff of a true VIP experience. Back in the day, the Grateful Dead sold tour books, so you could buy all of your tour tickets in a fell swoop and just send in your money order. There was no VIP option. They didn't have a different pricing level. It was all quite egalitarian. It was whimsy and luck to see where your seats were. You didn't buy access to whatever it is the VIP allows access to.

And I don't want to be a Negative Nelly TWICE in one message, but what the ???   Another friggin' festival???   Good Lord.  It's like the Borscht Belt except the acts cover a lot more ground from weekend to weekend every July. I wonder how they maintain the Churchill Downs' track under festival conditions.

Okay, enough!  On a positive note,  we are going to Further for NYEs and are totally psyched even though we aren't VIPs.

Peace,

Jeannie

Yeah, I'm a little skeptical until I see the exact line-up as well, but I'm
pretty sure that it would be expected that the Mule would play Fri & Sat. And
I'm sure there will be some great bands, there always are. I'm just surprised I
hadn't heard it officially or seen it posted on the Mule.net tour dates, or on
this group since I know Ang is always up on these things.

The pre-sale price ends early in January sometime as I recall. I'd thought by
now the Mule would be promoting the pre-sale. This will only be my 2nd Mountain
Jam, and I don't recall what I paid back in '07. Any ideas what the
post-pre-sale price would be? What are the savings?

You are right technically. But I think it's understood. Of course there
is no need to buy a ticket this far in advance anyway.

BTW, none of the songs played for me. I don't know why. Must not be usa

Doug, where did you see that announced? I haven't seen it any place. I'm not
trying to say you are wrong but I haven't seen it verified by Mule's people or
Mt Jam officially.

I won't buy a ticket for Mt Jam until I know the exact line up. While Mule has
played for 2 nights since they went to multiple nights, there is no guarantee
they will play 2 nights in 2010.

That is my take on things and I won't spend money till I know for sure.

I received an email from Mountainjam.com with presale info for Mountain Jam

that Mule would be there? I mean, it's Warren's party, isn't it?

CD REVIEW: Mule weaves common `Thread'

by Stephanie Castillo
Weekender Intern

Somewhere in the devil's file cabinet is an agreement with Warren Haynes. How
else to explain the flow of monster riffs that Gov't Mule has laid down over
seven studio albums and countless live recordings? "By A Thread" continues the
blueprint with 11 excellent examples of what makes Haynes and company tick.

Recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Texas, the CD opens with the
stomping "Broke Down On The Brazos." The track is pure Mule and highlights a
Gibson guitar duel between Haynes and guest Billy Gibson of ZZ Top. Opening the
album with such a strong number makes it a hard act to follow, but Haynes may
have sold his soul for the aforementioned agreement with Beelzebub to keep the
intensity coming over the next 10 tracks.

This was the first time the band wrote and recorded material in the studio
without road testing the songs prior to the release date, and that method
certainly hasn't hurt the quality of the music. In fact, for just three players
(and sometimes four), it sounds fresh and invigorating. The big guns come out on
"Inside Outside Woman Blues #3" and "Railroad Boy." The first track is a second
cousin to Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" and close enough that some may shout
"rip-off," but Haynes' work with the wah-wah pedal is stunning. "Railroad Boy"
is an old traditional song souped up with a healthy does of electricity.

The range of styles makes "By A Thread" one of the better Gov't Mule projects,
and it certainly helps that the band Haynes (vocals, guitar), Matt Abts
(drums), Danny Louis (keyboards) and new bassist Jorgen Carlsson has no weak
links. The acoustic numbers like "Forevermore" play well alongside the
reggae-tinged "Steppin' Lightly" and "Frozen Fear," and Danny Louis' keyboards
on "Monday Mourning Meltdown." Halfway through "Scenes From A Troubled Mind,"
the band kicks into a Led Zeppelin twist that steals a trick or two from "The
Ocean." It totally works, and once again, there's no copycatting here, just
reverence for what came before.

Despite being the busiest guy in rock music, Haynes remains one of the most
prolific songwriters on the scene. "By A Thread" adds a slew of new material to
Gov't Mule's live arsenal and further proof of Hayne's midnight rendezvous at
the crossroads.

MASSIVE LINEUP & XMAS JAM UPDATE
With the Christmas Jam less than 3 weeks away, we'd like to share with you the
latest additions as well as some incredible pairings and ensembles the likes of
which could only take place at The Christmas Jam. Brad Whitford, the guitarist
of the legendary AEROSMITH, will be making his first trip to the Xmas Jam, while
Xmas Jam alumni Jimmy Herring (widespread Panic, Phil Lesh & Friends, Aquarian
Rescue Unit) and Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band) return to the event
for the first time in 8 and 6 years, respectively. Another first-timer, Ed
Roland, the lead singer of multi-platinum selling band Collective Soul will join
the "Xmas Jam Band" for a couple songs. Anyone who attended last year's 20th
Anniversary shows can attest that is going to be a set for the ages. "TheXmas
Jam Band" was conceived by Warren, Kevn Kinney and Audley Freed as a way to
showcase many of the incredibly talented Special Guests backed by a dynamic band
which includes Audley (Black Crowes, Dixie Chicks, Jakob Dylan), Fred Eltringham
(Wallflowers), Robert Kearns (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Ron Holloway (Susan Tedeschi,
Dizzy Gillespie) and many, many others.

And another set we'd like to highlight is the pairing of the legendary George
Porter Jr (The Meters), Eric Krasno (Soulive, Lettuce), Adam Deitch (John
Scofield Band, Lettuce) and organ prodigy Nigel Hall for one-a-kind funk and
soul explosion. After a couple songs on their own, they will be joined by Stax
Records Legend William Bell. Those that may be unfamiliar with Mr. Bell probably
do not realize that he wrote and sang some of the most timeless classics such as
"Born Under A Bad Sign," "Everyday Is Like A Holiday," and "You Don't Miss Your
Water." We are truly honored to have such a treasure in our company.

Coming off a tour this past Summer with Michael Franti's Spearhead which
featured interband collaboration on almost every single song, Counting Crows are
excited about finally playing Xmas Jam and embracing the spirit of the event and
playing with a ton of friends, both new and old.

I am a huge fan of the Avett Brothers!  What a great addition they would be to any ensemble performance. I have only attended one Xmas Jam (long ago -- before it was at the Civic Center) but I vividly remember it as a wonderful experience of live music and spontaneous creative collaboration.  My guess it was around 1999?  Now for this one, I am a bit unclear -- who was announced at 4 PM? Not the Avett Brothers, apparently. Well, I guess when you have put one of these shows together for so long that mixing it up and adding new folks to the mix keeps the process fresh and less predictable. Both The Counting Crows and Ani DeFranco are just really excellent musical acts.  moe, of course, guarantees a good crowd and that is what they need for their fundraiser. I imagine that 7000 tickets at $50 bucks each makes a good sum for their charity. Overall, I think it is an impressive line up and a testament to their ability to keep producing a quality program year after year.

Peace to all on Thanksgiving,

Jeannie  (I am on Facebook now if anyone wants to find me)

Yeah, two more established well prepared, well rehearsed talented acts who know the material and who are ready to put on a professional and rehearsed performance will make all the difference.

Gov't Mule - By A Thread
(Provogue / Bertus)

is.

In
ongeveer tweenhalf uur, verspreid over twee sets, komen zo'n zeventien nummers
voorbij. Waarvan er een stuk of zeven van het goed ontvangen nieuwe album By A
Thread komen.

Het belangrijkste lid van Gov't Mule is Warren Haynes, ook gitarist bij The
Allman Brothers Band en The Grateful Dead.

Hiske
Pronker
