What's Up
everyone? Since Anders is playing with Greensky for their CO dates in the Fall, I have made a post about what people would think about Anders joining Greensky full time, since it sounds like the Sons are taking a long break. There should be some good posting going on over there. Personally, I think that if Anders joins Greensky fulltime, I am going to start traveling a lot to see them. If you are looking for that bluegrass/jamgrass sound they are some of the best new stuff in the US. If you want an idea of what Greensky with dobro will sound like, check out "Less Than Supper", their first album, Al Bates (dobro) plays on the whole album. My favorite tune on the album is "Out and Under". Peace. Mike in Memphis

I think he'd make a great addition to the band.

Anders and Pete are going to be playing 3 shows as Grateful Grass with
Anthony Hannigan and Kevin Malone. It should be a fun time. When Pete
and Anders were down in Memphis, they were talking about these shows
and they were really pumped about playing them. Here are the dates:
10/26/07-StageStop-Rollinsville, CO
10/27/07-Quixotes-Denver, CO
10/28/07-Mountain Sun-Boulder, CO
Anders is also playing one other show on 11/3/07 with Cliff Starbuck,
Vince Herman, Scott Law and many more. It should be a great night of
music too. Again, you CO folks are lucky as hell:
11/3/07-Anders Beck, Cliff Starbuck, Vince Herman, Scott Law and More-
StageStop-Rollinsville, CO
Enjoy.

The following paragraph is from the Greensky Bluegrass site, looks
like you CO folks are lucky as hell once again. I hope Phil tapes
Burle's opening set on 11/9, I would love to hear what he plays and
who he plays with:
We are excited to welcome our good friend Anders Beck (Wayord Sons)
out as a special guest on dobro and steel guitars for the entire
string of Colorado dates! Also, another dear friend will be joining
us for the Stage Stop show on 11/9, Benny "Burle" Galloway (Wayword
Sons)to warm things up with a set. The next day we will be appearing
in BOTH Denver (as part of Colorado Music Summit) and Ft. Collins at
Avogadro's Number. Sunday we head back to Denver for a full fledged
evening at Dulcinea's and then, as quickly as we arrived, we head
back east to Michigan via Kansas City and points beyond.

he was there from right after labor day till the middle of sept when
they rest of the band came through on the way to bristol. i guess he
spent a day with the stringdusters, a day with shawn camp, and a day
with jim stafford (i think that's who he said). hopefully some good
stuff came out of those sessions. i know he was pretty amped about it
when i saw him in bristol.

At least I got some posts going on this site. I understand what all of
you are saying, but I personally enjoy the instrumentation that they
use. If Gregg played a baby grand and Burle went back to his stand up,
what that be better for calling themselves a bluegrass band. I think
Burle changed his bass because it is a pain to set up for shows. He
told me that on many occasions the house sound guys cannot even figure
out how to set up the pick up. I did not mean to offend anyone on this
site, I just wanted to get some posts going regarding the Sons. I like
this band a lot and want to discuss different things about the band,
but no one ever posts here. Again, sorry if my last post offended
anyone. Good stuff and keep on posting here.

check out the photo section of the band's myspace page. gregg plays the "banjo" in this bluegrass band.... :O)

unfortunatly if you talk about them being a bluegrass band people are going to be VERY disapointed. electric bass, acoustic guitar with effects, keys, electric and acoustic dobro do not = bluegrass.
and the setlists have had very few burle
tunes on them at all. if you bill them as being the band with burles songs you will be even more disapointed when less than half of them are his originals. petes tunes and covers have been taking up the bulk of their shows.
and btw--burle and todd shaeffer are my two favorite songwriters, i dont really think it is anywhere near possible, or appropriate, to compare them.
The Wayword Sons are one of the sickest new bluegrass ensembles in the bluegrass game these days. They are even breaking boundaries with the instrumentation that they use. Remember, Burle wrote a lot of the songs that Yonder plays, more respect needs to be given to Burle and the boys. If you are at a Wayword
Sons show or happen to see them, keep the setlist and post it up. I think they are better than many of the bands that get more traffic on their sites (RRE, HBR, don't get me wrong, I like both RRE and HBR, but the songs that Burle writes are just the best you can get these days). Even though I had only 20 people at the show in Memphis, they played like there were over a 100 people there. They were very nice about it too. Sorry about the rambling, but if you are a Yonder fan, you should be a Wayword Sons fan by default. People need to start showing support to this band because they will not be around much longer, if they have to play empty shows for $5 a pop. Stop taking bands like this for granted because they could break up and be gone tomorrow, which would make me and many others very sad. Mike in Memphis.

you also have to keep in mind that this group only has 60 members
scattered all throughout the country. a person from this group isn't
able to make it to each show. i try to make as many as i can and
spread the wayweird word as much as possible. ymmv.

Did anyone keep a setlist from the Mulberry Mt. Music festival or the
Jackson, MS show? I would like to know what they played. They didn't
play Behold Rock of Ages, but I got to hear it backstage. It doesn't
look like they play it a lot and it would be sweet if they did it at
either venue. I also noticed that Anders sat in with some people at
the festival. I hope it was a good time for all who attended.
