time.
Please read on:
Yesterday October 4, 2007 Eddie and the boys from Grayson Manor AKA
Girls Girls Girls rolled their van 6 times after Brad Cox (Grayson
Manor) avoided a large rock in the road.
Brad said, 'I saw the rock in the road and I tried to avoid it ... I
guess the trailer hit it because it started to swing out of control.
At first the trailer was swinging from side to side, I felt that I
had gotten it under control, but ran off the edge of the road; and we
just flipped!'
Witness reported they flipped 6 or more times.
He continued to say: 'When the van stopped, I started to help
everyone. I saw Pat's leg, his bone was sticking out ... and it was a
mess. Eddie was buried with debris, he was knocked out cold. I
thought his neck was broken from the way he was lying there.'
Eddie Smith, Lead singer of Mad Margritt was sitting in the back of
the van when it flipped. He was helping out his friends when they
needed someone to fill in on bass. They had just finished two gigs at
a college in Mississippi and were on their way home when the accident
occurred in Lafayette, Mississippi. Eddie experienced several
lacerations on the head and neck, along with fracturing to his back
and a concussion. Brad Cox, Driver, suffered from a laceration to the
head, Ben Thomas, also sitting in the back remembers just bracing
himself as the van was flipping, Ben suffers from a broken collar
bone and has a black eye. Pat Valley, who was sitting shotgun, broke
his femur bone and had to have emergency surgery. All but one, Pat,
had been released from the hospital.
Eddie has been filling in on Bass and Guitar for several bands on the
east coast to make extra money after his wife, Gerri was recently
laid off from work. Since then, Gerri has found a new position with a
local construction company, but will not be available to receive
health coverage for 90 days, so this event will not be covered. If
you interested in donating any money to the Eddie Smith Medical Fund
to help with his medical expenses, please send them to the below
address.
Mad Margritt shows for this weekend have been canceled at the Wild
Wing Cafe in Suwannee, GA and Uncle Woody's in Lilburn. Eddie hopes
he will be able to rock the house out soon!
We have received an overwhelming amount of well wishes. Eddie is
touched by them all. If you would like to send him or his friends
with Grayson Manor a get well card, please send it to:

A note from Gerri, Eddie's wife.
Hello Everyone.
Eddie is out of the hospital. It was a very traumatic site to see....
Here's the one I love most in this world, in so much pain; it's gut
ranching. I got the call Thursday Oct 4, around 12:00 while at work.
It was Eddie. As soon as he talked, I knew he had been in an
accident. There was a lot of noise around him, and he was mumbling
his words. He told me he was being taken to the hospital; 'there was
an accident'. My heart just sank to my stomach. The paramedics told
me he was being taken to Tupelo Medical Center, so I just got in my
car and drove straight there.
It just seemed forever to get there, one of the longest rides I've
ever taken. What was frightening most was not knowing how he was
doing. I kept calling the hospital to find out what was going on and
they said they were assessing him. I asked if I could talk to him and
they said it was prohibited. I felt so helpless and wanted to get
there as fast as I could; safely too.
On the way I was stopped by a cop for going 95 mph. I showed him my
mapquest paper and said I haven't talked with him since he arrived to
the hospital. Thank GOD, the trooper let me go with no ticket. He
just told me to slow it down.
When I finally got there, it took everything to keep it together.
Eddie was banged up pretty good. It kept all I had not to squeeze
him, I was so happy he was alive. I thank God for watching over him.
Eddie has a fracture in his back, lacerations on the crown of his
head, forehead, chin and neck. The base of his neck on his back is
swollen pretty bad where he had skin gashed out. He's bruised from
head to toe!
When Eddie woke up, I got him out of bed and into the shower to wash
off all the blood. He recanted what happened and grabbed me and
brought me in close to tell me he's lucky to be alive. He said; 'I
don't ever want to leave you, I love you so much'.
He started to talk about what happened; 'I was dosing off in the back
of the van' He said. 'And was woken when we were swerving all over
the road. I saw that we were headed towards the middle of the
highway, I tried to grab for my seatbelt but it was too late. Brad
tried to correct it and we shot back across to the other side and
went into a roll. 'I think what saved me was all the luggage and
guitar cases that fell on top of me'. 'The back window was gone and I
would have been thrown out'; said Eddie. 'When I got up, my shoulder
was dislocated I raised my arms and felt if pop into place.
To help pay for Eddie's medical expenses, I'm putting together a
Eddie Smith Medical Fund. If anyone would like to help him out by
sending money to it, we would be very greatful. Funds can be sent to
the above address.
Thank you all very much!
'God Bless!'
