Short notice I know but a great opportunity!
Tacoma WA starting Tuesday Feb. 19th. All academy classes taught by
members of the Infamous Stringduster....the Festival lineup is amazing!
Check it out: http://www.acousticsound.org/
I bought an academy pass for the mandolin session and a 3 day festival
pass for $440. The academy pass can be transferred to any instrument. I
will sell for a reduced rate.
Our old girl(retriever mix) has cancer and is going downhill fast and I
cannot make the festival.
I would like to sell my ticket so if you are interested, give a call!
Thanks! Breece

You're right, but there is a bus that leaves at 4:20am. I suppose it just
depends on how
much jamming you're planning to do.
You could also try rideshare on Craig's list. That is often a good source of
transportation
at odd times. It's also an ok place to look for cheap lodging.

Patrice,
The schedule on the Sound Transit page for the 594 says the last one
leaves for Seattle from the Tacoma Dome stop at 10:23 pm...where is
this all-night route? It could be my saving grace!
Hi Mark:
Route 594 on Sound Transit runs all night long. Here's a link to
their schedule pages. You can catch the bus right at the Tacoma Dome
Station, which is also where you pick up the free LINK to the hotel.
Late at night, after the LINK stops running our festival shuttle will
take you to the Dome Station.
Hope that helps,

public transportation system... nothing runs after like eight o'clock!
If anyone wants to split a room at the Econolodge in Tacoma or wouldn't
mind carpooling to Seattle or maybe knows a transporation secret I'd
love to hear from you.
There are no workshops scheduled for those times. They may fill up
with something, but at this point, those time slots are empty.

Hi Jen:
We just signed on the Ebony Hillbillies to fill the slots opened up by
the Carolina Chocolate Drops. We think everyone will LOVE this band.
They are the real deal, from New York and cal themselves the 'last
black stringband in America'. Very cool.
As for late night rides, the firefighters will take people right to
their cars if parked at the Tacoma Dome station, which is where you
park (for free) to ride the LINK (also free). Econolodge will have a
limited shuttle service. Taxis are always available. They pretty much
stay lined up outside the hotel all year long.

The wintergrass schedule show workshops at the Varsity Grille at 1:45,
2:45 and 3:45, but they are not on the workshop schedule. Does anybody
know what those workshops are?
My ride had to bail on me, is there anyone driving down from Seattle
and back on Friday? I want to be there no later than 6 and leave no
earlier than the end of the Punch Brothers set, and ideally I'd like
to stay for the Trampled By Turtles set as well. I'm happy to pitch in
for gas; heck, I'll even bake cookies!
If you can give me a ride one way or another, let me know!

Hey there - I'm a Wintergrass volunteer that does not drive and lives
in Seattle. I'm hoping for rides on:
Thursday - following the 10PM Carolina Chocolate Drops set.
Friday - following the Midnight Trampled by Turtles set
Saturday - following the 11PM Seldom Scene set, or possibly the
midnight Duhks set.
Call Ben @ 206.228.2917 if ya can help!

I'm playing sets with the Alhambra Valley Band at Wintergrass this year
(yay!).
But I'm traveling to Tacoma from Northern California, so I can't bring
my standup bass. Wintergrass says they'll be able to provide a bass
for me for my shows, but they have a pretty limited number of basses
for traveling musicians, so getting one of them for "during the day"
rehearsals may be a challenge.
Any locals willing to loan a bass for an hour or two on Friday and
Saturday, actual time "to be determined"?

You might try Craigslist in the Tacoma area to find a room that someone is renting... chances are they are more likely to give you a room for a week.

I'm looking to share a room at Wintergrass, does anyone have a space

Hi Rob:
As it turns out the new elevator system won't be installed in time for the
festival. The
present system can't be programmed to ensure an express up to the top and
straight
down. We figured no one would want to take the chance of getting stuck, so have
instead
changed things around. We're really excited about the new Varsity Grill dance
stage. The
Ballroom stage will be configured to be a smaller space and will serve as the
lounge.
Almost there,
Patrice

Hey now all,
Glad to see there's a forum for Wintergrass now. I'm itching for the
month go by so we can get to the good stuff!
Personally I'm excited to see the new dance stage at the Grill.
Especially with the hot Sat. night lineup.
A while back I remember some talk about there bing a venue on the top
floor of the Murano, complete with an express elevator. Anybody know
what happened to that idea?

Hi Jen:
The Varsity Grill IS the dance stage this year. the Ballroom stage will be small
and will be the
Lounge. No dances there. I know it'll be confusing this first year, but the
Varsity is going to
be a very cool place to have the dances.

I was looking through the Wintergrass pamphlet last night, and noticed
that the two bands (TBT and the Packaway Handle Band) promoted as
playing the Dances on Friday night (being the special opportunity for
the "Club Wintergrass" tickets) are not in fact playing the Ballroom
stage that night. Any thoughts Eric? They are both playing the Varsity

I have not seen the workshop schedule yet but as soon as it is

I am planning to go Friday, but if the Saturday workshops look more
interesting, I would brave the crowds on Saturday.
Jack, Enumclaw
The Varsity Grill is just up the street from the hotel.

I believe it will be a little bigger area than the upstairs area.

Yay the schedule is up, and it will be craziness. Is the Varsity Grille
that venue at the very top of the hotel? I think I'll be hunkering

I am the list owner and we now have 11 members, it is a new list so we
will be getting more active on it as we get closer to the festival.
