Wow-
there are also two others for the same price....a definitive Yes DVD from 1968
to 1973...doesn't say what's on it, though....possibly some rare footage? Also
there is an ELP DVD for the same price....again, no listings of songs, but
apparantly live like the Yes and Wakeman DVD's.

A good deal, indeed...only problem is, it's a Region 2 DVD (meaning it can't be
played on most US DVD players [we're Region 1], unless you have the kind that
can be changed to play DVDs from other regions, such as a DVD-ROM drive in your
PC).

Hey Bjorn-

I hope you don't mean that your friends that you are hanging out with are 150
to 200 years old!! Wow! A Guiness book of world records!!
Anyway, thanks very much for your extremely kind words, I am very happy that
you enjoyed the music. I will post all new ones for next year for sure. Also,
check out the other song i posted called " One More Day" , I think you will
really like it. You are correct about the influences; except the other two
musicians that have REALLY unfluenced my playing/ composing are Keith Emerson
and Kerry Livgren from Kansas. You can really hear the Emerson influence on One
More Day, and lyrically, you can hear the Dave Cousins influence.
Have a wonderful New Year, both you and your family, I hope that your journeys
over the seas are safe and productive for you. Take care, and I will talk to you
again soon!
   thanks,
   Chris

Came home yesterday and tonight I am sitting in my little Strawbs room and
enjoying myself with music played/done by Chris Rickert. (Still downloading)
I don’t have any problems to hear where this brilliant musician has gotten his
influence.
   Wakeman/Yes is my wildest guess.
Anyway Chris: Thanks for sharing, and these tunes will be played in this home
next Christmas.Because then I am home and I already looking forward to that

Have a fantastic New Years evening (to all of you). I will be out celebrating
with 150 200 old and friends.

Here's my TOP 10 2005 CDs in no special order:

Wayne Shorter, “Beyond the Sound Barrier”
Joe Zawinul, “Vienna Nights”
Neil Young, “Prairie Wind”
Strawbs, “Painted Sky”
Robert Plant, “Mighty Rearranger”
Rolling Stones, “A Bigger Bang”
Paul McCartney, “Chaos & Creation”
Eno, “Another Day On Earth”
Ric Ocasek, “Nexterday”
Deep Purple, “Raptures of the Deep”

With upcoming releases from Ray Davies, the Hollies,
Emmylou Harris & Mark Knopfler, and Roxy Music, 2006
is looking good.

So far as Strawolutions, I hereby resolve to exercise
my best efforts to:

1. See the Acoustic Strawbs if they play Georgia or
Florida
2. See the "Bursting at the Seams" lineup anywhere
they perform
3. In the absence of 1 & 2, catch shows by: Kinks (Ray
Davies
and/or Dave Davies), Spooky Tooth (Gary Wright,
Mike Harrison
and Mike Kellie played 2 reunion concerts in 2004
so here’s
to hoping!) Pretenders, Cars (Todd Rundgren with
Greg Hawkes
and Elliott Easton), King Crimson (Tony Levin’s
back!), Ian
Hunter, Hollies, Guess Who (Bachman and Cummings,
not the
    Kale cover band!)

I already have tickets for Queen + Paul Rodgers and
the Allman Brothers Band's Wanee Festival, so it's
looking to be a fun year!

Happy New Year to all!

:-) Jon, how'd I know you'd be the one most likely to have these box sets
(either already in your possession or on order)? BTW, I think you were right
the first time--Legend of a Mind covers a number of Deram artists. Seems to me
doing a 3 CD box of Decca artists would wind up a bit short, since that's a
pretty big company.

But I've added that one along with Strangely Strange But Oddly Normal and the
Vertigo box, Time Machine (had to look it up to remember), to my Amazon shopping
cart, plus the Harvest box set Harvest Festival and Liberty's All Good Clean
Fun: A Trip Through the Underground of Liberty. Seems my musical resolution for
2006 is to fill in the gaps in my CD collection of classic underground and
psychedelic rock and folk-rock; other titles I've added:

The Move--Shazam! and Message From the Country (EMI released an expanded version
of this in the UK this past fall and Capitol is set to release that same CD here
either on 10 Jan. or 17 Jan., and I should add that I found both on eBay)
Soft Machine--Out-Bloody-Rageous: An Anthology 1967-1973
Donovan--Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow (the expanded remasters released
this past year by EMI)
Pentangle--Solomon's Seal
Shelagh McDonald--Let No Man Steal Your Thyme: An Anthology (Castle released
this one in 2005; apparently, she recorded 2 albums in 1970-71, then dropped out
of sight, never to be heard from again. Apparently, she ranks with Sandy Denny,
Jacqui McShee and Maddy Prior as one of the best female folk voices ever to
emerge from the UK)

...and more besides. I spent a couple hours searching through my
recommendations on Amazon.com the other day, and was absolutely gobsmacked at
realising all the cool stuff that I'd missed before, wondering how I'd been so
blind. (Probably a lack of cash.) And of course, I need to rebuild my Strawbs
collection.

Happy New Year everyone, look forward to seeing loads of you at gigs
in 2006 and carrying on where we left off.

This bit about David Claridge and his nocturnal, er, happenings:
Carole, Steve - I don't understand which bit you think is funny.
This is THE David Claridge we're talking about isn't it?

go buy a map,

Internet radio station Folk Alley have just sent me this message,
haven't had a listen yet :

Meet The Strawbs:

In the '60s, The Strawbs were on the cutting edge of the British folk
rock movement, coming together as an acoustic bluegrass band but
learning to love electric. The band had a hit single with "Part of
the Union" in the mid '70s and then retreated as punk and modern rock
took center stage. Now, The Strawbs are returning to the spotlight
and revisiting their acoustic roots. Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert and
Chas Cronk - the current reiteration of the band - stopped by the
Folk Alley studios, still looking (and sounding!) great. Chris
Boros, already a big Strawbs fan, interviewed the band about their
storied history and life on the road after so much time. Hear the
interview and a special performance by The Strawbs exclusively for
Folk Alley here:

Happy New Year all...

What a fabulous New Year's gift this was Sue!! I have passed this
link on to other boards so that the people I've been ranting to
about Strawbs these past years, can finally hear a little of what I
hear in them. This was one of the best interviews I've ever heard
from them..what an incredible treat!
Many thanks, and best wishes to all for a happy new year.

I agree, possibly the best all-round program I've heard...just the
right amount of music, pertinent selections carefully chosen by a
knowledgeable and capable interviewer, who thoroughly questioned and
involved all the band. Great Live sound too, sounds very much that
the guitars were acoustically recorded rather than DI'd Excellent!

Here I am! The techno-wiz! How come I can't get it to play on iTunes? I
forgot what I
downloaded (suffix ".ram"). Would I be better off with MP3? To be honest,
didn't have
time to really play around with it too much this a.m. after it wouldn't play the
first time....
Les?? Any suggestions?

I really think Les and Paul Brazier should invoice me for technical assistance.
