Hello Everyone
As we are on the final week of our USA Fall Tour, we would like to
pass on an important Petition that has reached us.
If you are feeling helpless as the language of war is pushed out at us
via the Government, TV and radio and would like to do something -
those of our friends who are interested in a non-violent response,
please read the petition and sign directly onto the link. Public
opinion and intervention is powerful. We can actually affect change.
Anything at all that might help to prevent more horror and
destruction, anywhere, is worth doing.
Something we've noticed from watching the TV and news service here is
the great lack of outside news and views. An excellent source of
information, articles and views from around the world can be found at
http://www.oneworld.com and specific news and editorial about the
military response to September 11th at http://www.antiwar.com
Our final concert is in New York, and there we will mourn with
everyone the terrible tragedy of September 11, and continue hopefully
with music to uplift the spirits.
Love
Maria and Carole
This method of petition registers directly as you sign onto to the
link.
To sign the petition go to:
http://home.uchicago.edu/~dhpicker/petition
The Petition
What follows is a petition that will be forwarded to President Bush,
and other world leaders, urging them to avoid war as a response to
the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon
on Sept 11. Please read it, sign in to the Petition Link, and forward
the link to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. The
best way is to copy/paste anew rather than hit forward button to avoid
all those <<<>>.
Public pressure and opinion is powerful. We must circulate this
quickly - the Congress of The United States has already passed a
resolution supporting any military action President Bush deems
appropriate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
------
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of the United States of
America and of countries around the world, appeal to the President of
The United States, George W. Bush; to the NATO Secretary General,
Lord Robertson; to the President of the European Union, Romano Prodi;
and to all leaders internationally to use moderation and restraint in
responding to the recent terrorist attacks against the United States.
We implore the powers that be to use, wherever possible,
international judicial institutions and international human rights law
to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks, rather than the
instruments of war, violence or destruction.
Furthermore, we assert that the government of a nation must be
presumed separate and distinct from any terrorist group that may
operate within its borders, and therefore cannot be held unduly
accountable for the latter's crimes. It follows that the government
of a particular nation should not be condemned for the recent attack
without compelling evidence of its cooperation and complicity with
those individuals who actually committed the crimes in question.
Innocent civilians living within any nation that may be found
responsible, in part or in full, for the crimes recently perpetrated
against the United States, must not bear any responsibility for the
actions of their government, and must therefore be guaranteed safety
and immunity from any military or judicial action taken against the
state in which they reside.
Lastly and most emphatically, we demand that there be no recourse to
nuclear, chemical or biological weapons, or any weapons of
indiscriminate destruction, and feel that it is our inalienable human
right to live in a world free of such arms.
To sign the petition go to:
http://home.uchicago.edu/~dhpicker/petition
Hello everybody,

Thursday Sept 13th: Digitaleve Chicago Chapter Premiere launch. The
Goodman Theatre, Chicago. starting at 6pm.

here.

It is hard to find the words to express our shock, our sorrow and our
deep sympathy for all those whose lives have been lost or changed
forever by this terrible tragedy. We all know someone or know people
who have friends who are still missing and unaccounted for in New
York City. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you all.
We are in Chicago right now, wondering if our tour can continue. How
does `normal' life resume for an entire people in a state of shock
and trauma? We are waiting to see as, some more days go by, whether
we have any part to play in what must be a time of both personal and
national mourning.
If music can be a way for us all to come together and share, as a
community, in expressing both our grief and our understanding that
life will go on for those who have survived, then we hope we can be
worthy of that task. We will let you know as soon as we can if there
are to be any cancellations in our scheduled performances.
With love
Carole and Maria

Hi there folks. We're coming back to the States for a very brief trip
in August to play at the Michigan Womens music Festival. We will be
playing on the night stage, first show, on Saturday 11th of August.
Should be a great occasion, one we've been hoping to play for a while
now. Thanks to all of you who wrote to Michigan demanding our
presence!
We'll be back then over Sept/Oct/Nov for a Fall tour. If anyone has
any good ideas for us for venues, festivals etc, please let us know.
More on that tour later.
Hope to see y'all in Michigan
love Carole and Maria
PS the songs for the next CD are shaping up nicely.
Hi there everyone,
just in case any of you are thinking of travelling to Ireland this
summer, here are our summer Dublin gigs.
Zrazy Quintet, featuring Maria Walsh on vocals, Carole Nelson on alto
saxophone, Geraint Roberts on double bass, Phil Ware on piano and
Kieron Phillips on drums, will be playing at the Shelter, Vicars St,
Dublin on July 1, 8, 15 and 29. That's just about every Sunday in
June.
We are launching loads of new material in preparation for recording
our next CD.
So if you're in town, or know anyone who may be passing
through...we'll see you there. And you can't miss us...posters all
over town!
love Carole and Maria.
Hello all you wonderful people and Zrazy fans after this long winter…
It's time for us to come out of hibernation and emerge blinking with
one long hop over the big pond.
A few things have changed since we last communicated...Carole is now
living in the country and hopping about with the lambs. Although
country living brought unexpected isolation with our strict
precautions for the tragic Foot and Mouth disease still prevalent
(especially in England - we've managed to contain it to one case so
far here in Ireland).
Maria is holding up the urban side with frequent juants now down the
country and that is a perfect combination for her presently.
Yes it's time for another Zrazy Spring Tour of the USA. This time
its's a very short one and we won't be able to visit all of you but
we certainly hope to include your area by next Fall.
So in the meantime here are the dates to follow.
After these Spring dates we'll be back over for a once-off appearance
at Michigan Womens Music Festival in August 7-12. We play on Saturday
Night Stage. Will y'all come to that maybe???? It's a blast.

We are delighted to announce the winner of our fab Photo Caption
Competition. Oh my, the standard was high and it was hard though
hilarious to chose the final winner. But, after much debate, back
room wheeling and dealing, vote counting ha ha and legal action, a
winner has been found.
Step up to the podium Sarah Byng of Dublin, Ireland who impressed us
mightily with her wit and will receive a CD of her choice in the
post.
Here it is:
"Will you ever put your teeth in, Maria, the A&R man's
here..."
is the winning caption.
A brief explanation for those not so familiar with music biz
jargon..the A&R man (or indeed, but sadly rarely, the A&R woman) is
the person who checks out bands at gigs in order to sign them up to
multi-million dollar recording contracts.
And runner up is Aine O'Connell from San Francisco with
"Jaysus! Would you look at the state of yer woman!"
And finally in third place is T Kise with: "The Duo Recovering from a
6 hour I-95 Journey (NYC - Washington, D.C.) in the Back of a Ford
Pick-up Truck."
Thank you everyone who joined in the spirit of the thing. We had all
sorts of contributions, convent life, the strain of being on the
road…. It made a great start to the day to read all this
nonsense.

that's all for now and oh yes Happy Thanksgiving! (we don't have that
over here..)

HOW YOU CAN HELP ZRAZY!
During the time that Zrazy has performed in America we have been
helped by many wonderful people in many ways. As independent artists
we have learned just how much this generosity and goodwill has
enabled us to continue producing records and performing. People have
often asked if there is a way they can help us financially through
tax-deductible donations. We are delighted to say that now there is a
way.
We are now supported in part by the Athena Art Project, a non-profit
organization dedicated to supporting women musicians and artists.
Their beliefs are:
ART CAN AND DOES CHANGE THE WORLD
and
WOMEN ARE WORTHY.
We are also often asked when will we be releasing our next CD. As
most of you know producing CDs is a huge financial undertaking. The
Athena Art Project has now set up a special Zrazy fund to expedite
production of our CDs. Your tax-deductible donation to the Athena Art
Project would go directly to the creation, production and promotion
of our work both now and in the future.
We also look forward to the day when we, Carole and Maria, can put
all our energy into making music, rather than into all the
administrative tasks that are necessary for keeping us afloat. Again,
your donation would help us to keep Zrazy alive and kicking and doing
what we do best: bringing our music to the world.
We are very excited about this opportunity because it helps us to
manifest our music more easily and at the same time gives you a way
to support the arts. We would also like to thank all of you for the
tremendous support we have received over the years.
If you would like more information you can contact us directly at

Hi everyone.
Back home at last and we want to thank everyone who helped to make
our Fall 2000 USA tour so successful and enjoyable. People help us in
so many countless ways. (See our Big Thank You list on the website)
http://www.zrazy.com
We'll be spending the winter months here in Ireland working on the
material for our next CD. To be recorded in the spring of 2001. Look
out for "Its the Devil In You" and other little gems from the zrazy
pens.
DUSTY SPRINGFIELD: A reminder for those of you are big Dusty fans
and/or insatiable Zrazy collectors. Zrazy's contribution to the Dusty
tribute CD Forever Dusty is the classic song How Can I Be Sure.
Apparently it's not always easy to locate this excellent CD, that
also features Laura Love, The Indigo Girls, Jill Sobule, Gretchen
Phillips and many more wonderful artists. It can be found and ordered
through Ladyslipper on line at www.ladyslipper.org
A proportion of the proceeds from the sale of this album go toward
breat cancer research.
Hope you're all enjoying the fall as we slip into winter. We envy all
you southeners right now. Though we hope you Texans can get the
weather right next time we come...43 degrees when we played in
Austin! Its not natural!
Bye from

Hello all
GIG CANCELLATION
We are very disappointed to have to announce the cancellation of our
Indianapolis performance , due this Saturday October 20th at the

As this cancellation was at such short notice, we are anxious to try
and reach everyone who might still come to the gig. If you know of
anyone who intended to come we would be very grateful if you could
spread the word.

The other great thing you can do for us is to spread our music via
email on our MP3 site. Download songs, send songs to your friends and
we also get paid royalties as a result. It's the way forward for
independant artists like us. We would like to put together a special
MP3 disc with live material, e.g, our Quintet sound in Dublin.
There are also new descriptions written up on our MP3 site regarding
the song inspirations etc.
It is: www.MP3.com/zrazy
And now the dates. Looking forward to seeing you again and to the new
places on this tour. If any of you have further ideas or contacts for
us re shows in your area please let us know!
Love and greetings from Dublin

Hi there everyone,
we hope we're finally up and running on our new Zrazy News E Group
service. This way we'll be able to let you know our news wherever we
are in the world. It replaces the old mailing list service
We'd like to thank everyone who helped to make our Spring Tour USA
such a pleasure. We're back home in Ireland for two months and then
we'll be back in the Fall for another tour. Check the website for
details of the tour: www.zrazy.com
Very shortly we'll be in touch about the revolutionary method of MP3
sound files where you can send our songs to whoever to let them hear
us and where we'll actually receive royalties. Unbelievable! Unlike
the record companies, strengthening ourselves via the independant
route is the future for artists like us. Removing control from the
record companies to dictate what the public can get to hear is truly
the right direction.
Meanwhile we want to ask you all to help us out by voting for Zrazy at
OUTVOICE. This is a gay and lesbian music website that runs a top 40
album
and single chart. We'd like you all to vote for Private Wars as the
Best Album and for 'Remember That You Did It First With Me' as the
Best Song.
You may not know that we won the GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian
American Music Award) for Best Jazz with this song in April 2000 in
NYC. (It's like the Gay Grammies and very cool for us to win as an
Irish group).
Click on to the following address to take you straight there.
You might also like to ask all your friends to check us out and do
the same.
Thankyou all so much for your continuing support.
love
Maria and Carole
hi all Zrazy fans!
we are having a little problem getting messages out to you on our new
Zrazy News E Group system - our last one it seems did not reach you.
so this is a test and sorry to bother you.
Greetings from Dublin
