I'm glad that you had a great show with a good audience around you. It will be
fun to see Lips family. I don't know if we will see the kids and "Junior"... :)
I guess it was refreshing for you to see them again. You're lucky cos you heard
good stuff. Moreover, you met Danvil! I can't wait to see the homepage all set.
I hope I'll see them again playing live their new stuff.

A great day Tony!

Tange :)

Hello Lori,

Lips is always "big brother type" with women, now Lori. He always been with me,
even when he was single too and that I was 20 years old. He can chat or talk
with a female without thinking about "it". It's not because a man is married
that he doesn't have the right to exchange thoughts or whatever on Internet with
someone else... But I think that sometimes he got bored about computers. He
really doesn't like the computer, except for what is necessary. He will write
you back, I'm sure. Lips appreciates all his friends.

I know he can be friend with you, cos he's a kind of person who like to
communicate.

Élaine (Tange)

Hey! Did you read the new Rolling Stone magazine? (I wouldn't admit
it either!) Well, I stole a copy from the newsstand because it has
Hendrix on the cover. They list their picks for top 100 guitarists in
rock history. Jimi was picked #1...I got no beef with that. But the
rest of the list is BULL! Joni Mitchell and Joan Jett are in there!
Wait a damn second! Where is Lips? Joan F###king Jett is better than
Lips on guitar? Now I've heard it all! Let me go and drink a case of
beer right now because I GIVE UP! Angus Young was rated lower than
them too! Ok, I know, I know. Lists are like assholes:everybody has
one. Why am I so worked up about this? Example: Pete Townshend-#50.
Kurt Cobain-#12. Kurt wrote some good songs(a lot) but he did nothing
on the guitar and anybody knows that! Rolling Stone has zero
credibility. It lost all credibility actually a long, long time ago.
So who really cares? Not me. I'm gonna practice my F chord! Maybe
next year I will make the list.

What a shame!

By a curious coincidence, I stole a copy too!! How a magazine that is
supposed to represent music can be so irrealist, giving a rank to
guitarists this way? I mean, they even don't define the criteria that
will justify such a choice. It seems, when we look at the "Top
guitarist", that more they had a short life...more they were good!
Number 2: Duane Allman, playing blues slide guitar and number 1: Jimi
Hendrix (I know Hendrix was great!). The fact is that they died so
young, after few years playing guitar and recording, that we don't
even know how they would have played TODAY!! Blackmore, Iommi, Page,
Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen survived all kind of excess and they are
still holding a guitar and PLAYING! On "12": Kurt Cobain...what the
heck ? Jimmy Page in on "9", jeez! What is that monkey on
number "11"? Kirk Hammett...Come on! Hammett's talent is near
Page's ???

Look at that:

"87": Joan Jett.
"86": TONY IOMMI
"85": RANDY RHOADS.

I think it's a big marketing plan, cos they knew that people that
have got a minimum of knowledge in music would react to this and buy
the magazine just to check the Top HUNDRED. It's a whole joke! To
make a serious and honest top hundred, they had to define what they
based their choices on or to let the people vote. For me, this
magazine is better at presenting ads of all kind than writing some
serious stuff.

I plan to learn guitar, cos I want to be in the top hundred in 2
years! Tell me I'm too old, cos for them: closer I am to death,
better I am!!!

The concept is stupid to begin with, how do you measure this, and
who's measuring? It's art and it's totally subjective, one mans
treasure is another mans garbage. Each guitarist no matter what
anyone might think, is playing to his full potential, and each are
quite incapable of copying each other, they are all one of a kind and
you can go even further than this and say anyone playing an
instrument will eventually sound only like themselves in time.
Playing a musical instrument is in a lot of ways like hand writing,
some we can read and some we can't.

Those "best" lists are based more on popularity than talent anyhow.

I have updated the Anvil page. I have added a pic of the new album
cover and pics from the show this past weekend. I have also created a

I have pics of myself and Dan with Lips and his wife. Also a couple of

How true Tony!

I was looking for players like Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson,
Robin Trower, Frank Marino, Adrian Smith, Mick Taylor, Rick Derringer, Joe
Satriani, Steve Morse, Jeff Healey; Jazz guys like Al DiMeola and Django
Reinhardt; Blues players like Mayall, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, and even
classical guitarists like Segovia, Julian Bream, etc.? Couldn't find them and
most of the above blow away 3/4 of those on the list.

Right now, I don't know what to say except "Wow!" about this cover. I'm very
impressed, because I saw a picture of my grandfather (who was the village's
blacksmith, like his father) and it's dated of the year 1930. If I remember
well, it was almost like the cover except my Eddy had never wear a beard. It's
too bad that my mother was pregnant with me when he died, 1962. No one has made
covers with this concept, except Jethro Tull. The style is completelely
different but just looking at it really brings us "back to basics".

The pics of the last gig are just great, everyone looks in shape. Virginia, Tony
and Danvil that grew up so fast! How was the trading guys? Did you make some big
deals? And what about LIPS with glasses in his backyard? I guessed it was him on
the inside sleeve of "Metal on Metal" (bottom right). He was young on this pic,
striped pants and Buddy Holly's glasses. On another one, (center) with money in
his hand to buy...whatever. He looks better now. He's brave! I don't allow
pictures if I wear MY glasses! Tony wear glasses too... Yup, I saw him on his
website's pic at work :0) !! We all wear glasses, damn! Catdeli too! Slug is in
the club also... So what? When we'll wear pampers, then we'll stop the
Academy...ha?

About the Top Hundred, Rolling Stone Magazine just made me indignant at the
whole process.
Excuse me, I got my guitar lessons in 10 minutes.

You're right...How's that? Robin Trower, Joe Satriani and Frank
Marino are not even mentioned. I understand what LIPS wrote. We can't
rank "self-expression", it can be only done by personal preferences
and it shouldn't have been taken in a serious way. I can't compare
or pretend that Salvatore Dali was a better painter than Delacroix or
Da Vinci better than Jackson Pollock. They were completely different
from each other, but they have been all recognized for their special
works.

I didn't take it in a serious way...hmmm. But! They want my
comments:"YOU'RE GREATEST GUITARIST: Don't agree with our list? Vote
for your favorite at www.rollingstone.com/greatest guitarist."

I knew it was a big marketing stuff. Who am I to decide who is the
best guitarist?

WoW, Great stuff! I remember that time, hey! Metal on Metal...When
Tony will see that page, I won't be surprised that he'll take some
pics to add to the web site. I'm going to link that page to my fan
site at www.anvil.mysite.ws, you can take a look I have just changed
it all!

I have never thought to find someone who can write a shorter message
than yo, Tony! HA!

What's the point thelorinator? You have something interesting to tell
about a magazine that you found and you stay mute? Is that a way to
act with friends? What do you expect us to do? We don't have any
crystal ball to guess what you mean. It's not fair for Tony, cos he's
a collector and interested by all that is about ANVIL including LIPS.

Now, he asked you "IS IT KERRANG!?", I would like to know that
too...cos actually I have them all in the cellar! Can we know about
which magazine you're talking about, and if it's KERRANG!: can we
have the year, month or number PLEASE? Thank you for understanding.
